Just wanted to tell you that I adore seeing your art across my dash. I'm a big fan of Thunderbolt Fantasy too and you are one of the few artists I know that actually makes art for the series. And I LOVE that. Thank you so much!

Thank you! While TBF isn’t the series to get into for popularity’s sake--which is why it’s understandable that not many people on Tumblr are actively making works for it--its aesthetic really hits on most of the things that I find beautiful to (try) to draw. I’ve definitely been way more active on Twitter the past several months (where the audience is much bigger), but I may eventually end up prorating some of the pictures I’ve done on here.

Yes, they are playing weiqi/go! I’ve never played the game, though, so I literally had no idea what I was drawing...I know the game they’re playing makes zero sense, but their trying to peer sinisterly at each other is what I was trying to capture, lol.

Drew these pictures of Lin Xue Ya and Xiao Kuang Juan (the new “megane” character who will be introduced in season 2) a couple of months apart.

It was revealed at Sakura Con that Kuang-Juan is supposed to be an “untrustworthy” person–and we know someone else, whom we’ve already become acquainted with, who is a shady individual–so here they are together, trying to creep each other out.

So what do you think of the 3 new characters (megane, scorpion and your puppet wife's mentor) in term of design possible connections etc.? Will you ever consider drawing Sha Wu Sheng when he's a child (or teenager) for the upcoming OVA?

I don’t really have any opinions on the two new characters introduced at Sakura Con, other than I already know that they’ll be popular because they fit their respective tropes, but I do really like Sha Wu Sheng’s master because I’m always partial to the old guys, and I like that he really dwarfs Wu Sheng when you put them side by side–it’s cute! (I know some vague-ish spoilers about what happens with him/Wu Sheng in Gaiden, but I’ll reserve my thoughts on them for when the OVA comes out.)

And yes, I’ve had a ton of ideas for drawing younger Wu Sheng!….along with the billion other ideas I continue to come up with but will probably never get around to actualizing due to lack of skill/time, lol. But I definitely plan to getting around to drawing (my imagined) scenes from Wu Sheng’s past! I’ve actually already drawn a pic of him and his master, so if you’re interested, here it is.

Caption literally says: “You’re so small…and cute!” Because at one of the Japanese showcases, everyone kept talking abut how tiny he was compared to his master, and I thought that was adorable.

(I don’t really post my stuff on Tumblr anymore because, idk–I feel like people don’t really like me on here for whatever reason, maybe because I’ve posted too much in the past to the point that it got annoying for people–so I keep most of my activity on Twitter nowadays. It’s nice to get the rare encouraging message on here, though!)

After some convos with @sexuallyfrustratedshark about it on Twitter, I decided to do a re-draw of that amazing manga-only scene where Lin threatens to slit his own throat if Mushou didn’t come with them on their journey, causing Mushou (and Shou) to freak out. These crazy puppets…

Spent much of the weekend on this TBF Phantom of the Opera AU piece, based on the Point of No Return scene. A challenge in more realism and a darker lighting scheme.

I felt that Mushou would be a good Phantom because he wears a covering over half of his face, and….he’s got the unrequited love plotline going on? I was going to put Lin in Christine’s dress, but I decided to be nice and give him Raoul’s dress shirt, instead (he still has to wear the flower, though).

War For You

Based on the opening scene from the novel sampler, where Mushou is hacking away at their enemies, and Lin is just chilling in the back, watching it all go down.

I think about how Mushou used to be Lin’s own personal hired assassin, and how Lin knew that Mushou could have been doing better things with his life, but chose not to stop Mushou on his path towards (self) destruction. And I wonder what emotions Lin would have been feeling in those moments he observed Mushou cutting people down for the umpteenth time--satisfaction? pride? disgust? sorrow? pity?

It is pretty much canon now that Lin and Mushou had originally wanted to get married and live happily ever after together, so in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, this happened.
