actually about that. taylor had a generic american little girl bicycle right? one of these little fuckers. it seriously is so weird that it's like this pervasive that like every 13 year old girl had the exact same kind of bike.

I do think it would be a really good idea for a story to have a sort of 40k world where technology and religion have created this unholy bureaucracy of super soldiers, priests, and engineers. Except in an effort to both keep the emperor in control and create a bureaucratic class of workers, the echelon of generals are all women, with the thought that they would never be strong enough to overthrow the emperor and the bureaucratic class are all men forcibly feminized into women, with a similar idea but also the concept similar to the imperial Court that they would care more for the country than continuing their own legacy. This is further spread into a technical class of holy engineers and a bureaucratic class of priestesses.

This of course does not work out like that and the Emperor is eventually overthrown in a bloody civil war and the various planets and systems split into an unholy group of alliances and backstabbing each with their own rules. Like a Warring States period, but spread out over Galaxies.

The forced feminization is an integral part of this though and non negotiable.

17.1 highlights an important distinction between Taylor and Victoria can be found in 17.1. If Taylor had been told that she had killed thousands (at least) by killing Teacher, I doubt she'd think to deny it. Rather, she'd probably tell Defiant that it was worth it. She'd ask him whether they really thought they could take him down without killing him, argue that thousands dying with him was better than billions being enslaved by him. She wouldn't necessarily stay committed to this claim, and she might feel sick upon hearing the accusation, but faced with an external body's scorn she'd at least initially push back with righteous indignation. But importantly, it wouldn't initially occur to her that he'd be lying—she does not find the idea that she could do something terrible unbelievable.

There really is basically no reason for Imp Vista friendship to happen in a world where Regent doesn't blow up but I really wish there was. Maybe in comedic less serious AU they can still be Best Friends because there really is something so engaging about a world where the Undersiders and Wards hate each other but are also forcing friendship through gritted teeth off the clock for the sake of Team Little Sisters

Imp invites Vista to one of Taylors block parties in hopes that exposure to raw villainous joy will turn Vista supervillain. Vista brings the Wards with her in hopes that exposure to good natured heroes with a system of ethics will make Aisha want to join the Wards. Everyone is out of costume and random adults try and solve the tension between what they perceive as two groups of teenagers having a spat over nothing. Lisa and Chris Win are forced to shake hands and apologize lest they set a bad example for the kids watching. They play Cornhole and Regent makes the Wards mess up every single throw. Emotionally charged game of Uno turned philosophical debate between Brian, Taylor and Dennis.

i picked up fourth wing from the library because i thought it looked interesting so instead of buying it i google searched fourth wing pdf and read it overnight. the main character does exposition dumps during suspenseful moments and it doesn’t just kill the tension but they’re so unimportant to literally anything going on that you can skip over them and lose nothing. the main character is a super special gal with a specific physical issue and repeatedly does things that would in reality make said physical issue worse because the narrative demands it. the reason i’m not naming what the physical issue is is because the book never explicitly states what is actually wrong with the protagonist. she is in a love triangle. she fantasizes about her rival constantly. there’s a pretty consistent rule that each person bonds to one dragon. the protagonist bonds to two, so she can get both flavors of edgy: dark and spooky plus young, gold, and childlike. there’s a single chapter from someone else’s perspective in the entire book. it’s from one of her love interests. of her two love interests, there is the very bad guy evil evil rebel who got fucked over by the super-evil definitely not capital from hunger games dystopian government who is definitely not evil no sir. the other love interest is her childhood friend. but secretly evil. oh also everyone speaks in modern slang for some???? reason??????
