I've always loved the female Sternritter. They're delightfully toxic, surprisingly human (the anime and the light novels namely), and their dynamic is fun and disturbing yet heartwarming when zombies aren't involved.

We know they're some of Kubo's favorite Quincies. The light novels showed they all survived, but the anime version of the final arc takes precedence since he's the creative consultant. I'm loving the anime cause I don't know what they'll do differently and I've appreciated, respect, or loved most of the changes they made as a huge critic of the manga.

In the manga, Candice loses to Byakuya off screen and we see her bleeding, but Liltotto says she's alive. The last time we see Meninas in the manga was when she punched Liltotti after Pepe took control of her. We're told Liltotto beat Meninas, and once again she says Meninas is still alive. But that's all we ever see from them in the manga.

We had to turn to the light novels to see they were captured and turned into zombies by Mayuri. Half of the plot of one of the light novels was Liltotto and Giselle retrieving Candice and Meninas from him.

Now, the anime did show Meninas carrying a limping Candice to safety before they were both hit by the Holy Selection. Since Giselle, Liltotto, Bazz-B, and Najahkoop were the only ones to emerge alive, we have to presume that Candice and Meninas were killed by Yhwach.

Season 3's ending song shows all five Femritters as well as all the other Quincy, Uryu and Yhwach included. I've been curious what they'll do with the Femritters all season.

In the light novels, it's made clear that Haschwalth specifically made it so all the female Quincies, including the Femritters, survived the war so they avoid extinction. They're under surveillance by the Soul Society, but they're living together in the human world by the end of the light novels.

I'm here excited at what they may adapt and what they may change because the anime is Canon, it's the definitive version of the final arc.

So now I can address the screenshot. In Episode 36's after credits scene, the anime makes its first major change from the light novels with this one shot. Instead of Mayuri, Giselle is the one who turns Candice and Meninas into zombies. Honestly this makes way more sense. It's smarter to have the Zombie Girl herself turn them all into zombies.

But whatll happen next? In the manga, we only see Giselle and Liltotto at all, and in their last scene in the manga, they're both defeated by Yhwach off screen after Bazz-B dies in a fight with Haschwalth.

A bunch of Quincy soldiers' heads turned into shadows with Yhwach's eyes. This is also new. The manga never had this scene either. So I presume Yhwach will still defeat all five at once on screen.

On the other hand, I want them to survive like in the light novels. Having the Femritters just fight a bunch of red shirts and lose to the Big Bad isn't really a good enough sendoff to them. It wasn't a good sendoff in the manga, the anime may do it better, but the point of their survival is so the Quincy race survives extinction.

I guess I can't really expect them to survive. Giselle has to choose to restore their blood for them to be revived. Will she do so even if she survives the anime? I'm not sure.

I love the Zombie Candice and Zombie Meninas changes. But I want them to survive and I've always feared they won't.

The People's Palace

VALLUM - I used to love my country. I remember when I first saw the Lapis Palace, the seat of power for our government, the most magnificent building in our capital city, and the symbol of our nation. Even back then, it looked as beautiful as it was - and is - unreachable. I was taught to see its opulence as aspirational.

And it goes beyond the president's residency. When people talk of Amestris, they think of Vallum. When people want to reach the very top of our society, they're aiming for Vallum. When people talk of change, they move to Vallum, because that is the hold Capital Hill has on the Shining City.

"Don't worry," the propagandist would say, "everyone gets a shot at living in the People's Palace!"

No. They really don't. It's in the name - the Lapis Palace. Reserved for a person whose blood was divine and whose rule was absolute.

Sure, we've never had a monarchy. Our ancestors forced through democracy against the wishes of their former masters. Our very existence was once a consignment of eternal bondage. But we did not wallow in our own misery. We fought to restore our right to be respected as human beings. We overcame the cruelty of someone else's imperialism. And yet here we stand, blissfully unaware or rather willfully ignorant of the imperialism we not only impart upon the world, but the imperialism we impose on our own soil.

You scoff. I counter.

Every war we've waged benefits only the wealthiest among us. We rarely fight in self defense. We don't defend others' democracies when those democracies oppose us. We are rapidly becoming the successors to the monsters who enslaved us.

But maybe you don't care how we behave around the world. Then I have a question for you.

Why should the leader of our country live in a palace? "We elected them! It's okay! The people consent to the palace!"

Why should the most powerful person in our nation live in a maximum security building disconnected from the voters?

"But it's for the president's protection!"

Why does the president need to be protected from a child?

Moreover, what has the president done to require such protection from the average person?

In my time alive, I've asked this question to everyone, and not a single person inside Vallum has an answer. It's a question only those beyond the capital may answer.

Why is this palace so afraid of the people?

I miss my friend. She got me back into One Piece. I lost contact with her on November 8, 2024.

We met over two years ago on Reddit. We became fast friends on discord. Her display name was RougeLiz; I forgot her username. Both of us lost our Reddit accounts back in 2023 or so. We didn't mind because we both had each other on Discord anyway.

We were so close, I not only showed Rouge my original stories as an amateur scriptwriter (my blog is named after one of my OCs), but I shared my home address with her, and she sent a card of Uta from One Piece Film Red for my birthday. I still have it to this day.

Rouge's love of One Piece reignited her passion for anime, and in turn, her love of One Piece got me not only back into reading the One Piece manga, but also follow and discuss spoilers for One Piece.

One of the last things we talked about was One Piece Fan Letter, which is one of the greatest piece of animation and storytelling I have ever seen. We even spoke about the 2024 election as it happened and during its immediate aftermath.

In hindsight, I should've told her to add my Steam (if she even had it; I never got the chance), or traded our email, or shared my phone number with her. I feel like an idiot for never asking after all this time.

I lost access to my discord because of a false report. Discord's moderation system is run by AI; it's shockingly common for people to lose their accounts for even being in a server that, for instance, got hacked and caused spam.

Each time I appeal, the Clyde bot responds to me instead of a normal living breathing human. It claims my suspension was temporary, and that it would end on November 11, but it didn't end. It's still ongoing.

I have a very strong feeling she's worried about me. I'm upset that I'm making her worry. This is my last-ditch attempt at maybe, hopefully, potentially getting back in touch with RougeLiz, hence why I have so many One Piece related tags here lol

Sorry for not talking about gum pirates and sun gods. I just needed to vent and I'm trying my best to get back in touch with one of my closest friends. I don't expect her to see this, but wish me luck.
