Family is a weird topic to broach. To say Nikki's is a complicated one would be an understatement. They were always a bit of a nasty show, a drama, when they all got together but...

She remembers it was Thanksgiving, 2018. Her mother had decided on a huge gathering; all the Keaton girls had been practically hunted down and brought back almost screaming and kicking..and then there was the cousins. The O' Connells did not seem much happier to be summoned by Linda-freaking-Keaton than Erica or Serena looked. This was going destined to be such a fun evening. No. Never.

It started out well, pleasantly even. None of the kids could believe it but the mood had shifted by the time the turkey was on the table. Linda had managed to run her mouth about uncle Keith —rest his soul— and aunt Janey had somehow insulted her mom's prized cherry pie. Not fair things to compare really but who was Nikki to get in the middle of the sisters' arguing!? Richard Keaton, the no-nonsense man that he is, made sure to cut the damn bird and serve before the kids ate their mothers' hairsprayed hair. The mood had gone south really fast.

Arkin looked ready to drop multiple F—bombs, Addison looked panicked trying to sooth everyone, Eden was on the verge of tears because of the comments about her dad, Erica was gradually getting angrier about a comment made regarding her second marriage and for some reason Nikki could not pinpoint, Serena was breathing fire from her nose whenever their parents mentioned relationships. Nikki herself had managed to escape fire till aunt Jayne made a comment about everyone in their family crashing and burning..her mother had taken that as a jab.

They had not managed to finish dinner that night. Instead, midnight found the six —debatable but still— sane offsprings of the two madwomen still yelling at each other inside the house, sitting by the pool. Addison whispering comforting words to Erica, Serena sharing Arkin's cigarette without words exchanged between then and Nikki stroking Eden's hair as the girl rested her head on her shoulder.

What a family...

She feels like she owes so much of her success to Sloane, after all she was the reason why she could stay in New York during projects and not have to travel all the way home.

Serena was sat still on her third drink as he spoke, letting out a laugh at his words. "People hear the word free and that's it, surely that was your downfall." She teased, shaking her head. "Hopefully everyone will start to clear out safely so you won't have to worry, that was really nice of you though." The blonde continued before taking a sip of the drink in front of her. “ You know what, I gotta stop opening my mouth “ Nelson said with a chuckle. He had offered to buy everyone a drink in the bar but then one drink turned into several and now he was getting looks from people who insisted he’d pay for Ubers to get home. “ I never said they had to drink until they couldn’t drive home though. I guess the prospect of free alcohol was just too much for them to pass up. I did fully fuck up by not setting limits” not because it cost a lot but because people were probably more rowdy in the bar than the owners had hoped and he felt bad about it. He’d offer to pay for cleaners in the morning to help tidy up.

As she entered the bar she couldn't help but look around and notice how empty it was, something she never saw until now. "I'm honestly surprised." Serena said as she approached the bar and took a seat. "I don't think I've ever heard of a weird recipe. Is there one you've always wanted to make and have never gotten the chance? could there ever really be a time when a bar was slow ?? wolfie had never actually considered it a possibility. or maybe because he'd never been behind the bar on such occasions. most often he worked the weekends, when most wanted to completely let loose. how strange it were that he had found himself behind it on a seemingly inconspicuous weekday.

" it's slow as hell, so please tell me you have something hard to make. or just down right fucking weird . " he'd take anything right about then. anything that would surely give his mind something to focus on. instead of when the damn night would be ending.

Both of their lives seemed so constant at times, it was nice to just relax in each other’s company. “I know you love being a mom, but I don’t think that’s all you are —you’re more than both of those things now.” She understood that it was different than what she meant, when it was just the two of them taking on the world together and if she were honest, Serena would have loved to go back too. “I think the problem was we were always up to something, so you’ll have to be more specific.” She teased before letting out a laugh. “A shitty bottle of vodka sounds like an amazing idea. Serena turned her head, quickly looking down to the contents of his hand before meeting his eyes. She was never someone who could turn down a piece of media, especially when there was music involved and she couldn’t in good spirits allow the stranger to miss the amazing deal written among the signs.

“I get it, sounds like you’ve been some shitty luck.” She responded with a nod of her head. “I’d be happy to help, just let me know how it is after you’ve finished the first play through.” She took the item from his hand, passing it over to the cashier with the record she’d been planning to purchase regardless.
