Penelope nodded happily. Deciding not to tell him the other âfun-factsâ she knew about otters. The truth would probably break his heart. ââ Well than did you know that male puppies while play fighting with female puppies will often let the females win, even if the males have a physical advantage.ââ She said to get her mind of of the evil otters.Â
Benjiâs features softened, like that one piece of knowledge had melted his heart. It was so light and pure. âOkay, thatâs maybe the sweetest thing Iâve heard about history in a long time. Otters in general are just too good for this world.â God, it felt like his heart was clenching from just knowing.Â

When he brought up history she smiled. ââDepends on what you want to know.ââ She answered amused. While she knew more about history than the average person she didnât want to bore him. ââDid you know that otters have a secret pocket where they carry their favorite rock?ââ Penelope said before he could answer her. It was just something sweet to lighten the mood. With still a lot of time before the squirrel rescue team would arrive, Penelope didnât really know to say to make time fly by faster.
He pulled up a leg and rested his foot against the seat, constructing a makeshift rest for his arm. Benji nodded along to her response with a small smile, she seemed like a well-read gentle soul from first impressions. âFrance, huh? Viva la revoluciĂłn.â His small smile turned into a grin, beginning to relax after his initial stand-offish reaction to feeling down about a wounded creature. âBut thatâs all good, right? Thereâs a lot of well established systems that America could take a few pointers from. Is history one of your shticks?â

Penelope smiled at his silly statement before sitting down. The squirrel in her arms was still sleeping and she made sure to not wake them up. When he asked her if she read a lot she nodded. ââCanât say I donât.ââ She said amused. ââAnd from what I remember a lot of articles say that France has the best health care.ââ Penelope made sure not to smile when she said remember. ââAlthough that doesnât mean itâs the most affordable... According to multiple articles Thailand has the most affordable health care.ââÂ
âJust leave me to die, Iâd sooner sprout wings and fly away than subject myself to that money drain.â He mused, glancing around the quad before gesturing to a bench. If they had to wait, they might as well sit. It was relaxing listening to someone that knew stuff, no matter what that stuff was. âIf anything medical bills should be more affordable, like Australiaâs health care, they werenât too bad last I heard. But I donât really know shit about this stuff. You read a lot?â

âOh no way, if anyone ever takes me to a hospital I will track them down in my next life to exact revenge.â He quipped back, he didnât have any sort of health care, if something happened to him heâd have to tough it out. âIâd sooner pay a vet bill.â
ââThe cost of an ambulance ride is nothing compared to an ambulance flight. If youâre uninsured and itâs a long flight you have to pay almost 50.000 dollars. But thatâs domestic if itâs an international flight the bill can be higher than 200,000 dollars.ââ She said, hopefully the information would be useless to both of them since there was no way she, or them, could or better said would pay for it.Â

ââAs cool as it may be, itâs just as illegal.ââ Saying the word cool felt foreign on her tongue. Not bad, she just never used it before. ââAnd thanks.ââ She didnât really know what to make of the compliment. ââAnd if youâre willing to pay 200 dollars an hour, I say go for it.ââ She teased.Â
He grimaced, he had to give her credit there. Traffic could be awful, there was no way they would work the same way if it was a human emergency service. He saw that as a disservice to other creatures. âThatâsâthatâs something. Itâs a brilliant idea but just for rich people? Damn. But thatâs pretty cool, like you knowing that and stuff.â

ââI play violin, piano and a little bit of guitar.ââ She choose those instruments because those were the only ones at home. If only there was a library for instruments. ââSounds like fun.ââ She smiled. ââWhen do you want to start?ââ While she knew she wasnât the best cook she also had tons of recipes she could teach him. Showing counted as teaching right?

âOh, what instruments do you play?â He asked, curiosity leading his questions as he gave a simple smile. âAnd maybe you could teach me how to cook, if youâre interested. Iâve always been a big eater, and would mind the lessons. Plus, anything beats the ramen and pizza diet Iâve been stuffing my face with lately.â

ââI suppose it does.ââ She shrugged. Maybe it was because this particular mouse was as cute as a button, but it didnât bother her. It was sad that they werenât allowed animals, as she gladly wouldâve taken care of the little mouse. When he brought up Trump she sort of subtly ignored it. Politics never interested her and it probably never will. âââHopefully, but I donât count on it. Seeing as theyâre not the ambulance they donât have first priority.ââ Which reminded her of something, hopefully, interesting. ââDid you know that in Russia, some rich people hire "ambulance taxis" to beat Moscow's traffic jams?ââ She thought it was ridiculous and she wasnât really sure if it still happened but it was the first thing that came to her mind.
âI sâpose that puts you in the minority, a lot of people go out of their way to avoid mice. Itâs like one extreme to the next, you either love them or you refuse to be in the same room as them. Sort of like Trump, but change room for country. Not that mice are on his level, theyâre harmless compared.â Benji grimaced, half an hour could make all the difference, âhereâs to hoping itâs sooner rather than later.â

Penelope wasnât very surprised of his answers. Unfortunately they didnât have that much common ground. Seeing as she wasnât the athletic type and it was safe to assume that he wasnât the academic type. ââOf course I do. I like playing instruments, cooking and drawing to name some.ââ It suddenly felt like elementary school all over again. Where you had to introduce yourself by telling something interesting about herself. She never liked or disliked it, but she could do without it.Â

âWellâ I like to swim, play pick-up games of basketball and football. I go to the gym too.â Really, it wasnât that he didnât have enough time to read it seemed, he just dedicated his time into other things that seemed more important to him. âWhy? Besides reading, you have to do other things too, right?â

Penelope smiled brightly. ââDefinitely the books.ââ She said as she took the pile. This bookstore was organized in a very odd way, by author and not by name. These books were all written by Charles Darwin. Some of them she read but didnât take with her. Others are books she never read before. Luckily money wasnât a problem. The only true problem with buying them would be having to carry them all back to the campus. ââAny ideas on how to carry these back?ââ She said as she walked to the cash desk. She placed them on the desk and waited for help. They werenât all the books but seeing as there were only two of them she didnât mind.
â„ - cheek
âââThanks for joining me.ââ Penelope dragged Leila with her to an old bookstore in town. It was small and musty and looked older than the universe itself. But it was charming and sweet at the same time. ââI really appreciate it.ââ She said as she looked at the bookshelf in front of her. When she found nothing she liked she walked over to Leila who was sitting on a chair. A gasp left her mouth as she saw the books right next to the head of the siting girl. She almost squealed in excitement. For a reason she couldnât quite understand she kissed Leila on her cheek. Thrice. Twice on her left and one on her right. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

Penelope smiled at his kindness. ââThanks.ââ When he said that he didnât have enough time for it she almost laughed. She could read faster than most people so she never had any problems with that. And the whole never forgetting anything made it even easier. ââWhat do you have enough time for?ââ She asked, they might not share reading but maybe they shared something else.

âOf course, Iâd be glad to help you anytime.â Will added, a strong sense of self instilled inside of him as he grinned over the girl. âThatâs nice though. Reading and stuff.â He looked back to the books and then glanced towards Penelope. âI donât know, Iâve never been too much of a reader. Itâs not that I donât like it, I just feel like I never have the right amount of time to dedicate to it.â

ââI think theyâre cute.ââ She understood why some people might dislike them. But she couldnât help but think they were cute. Maybe thatâs why she liked Mickey Mouse so much. Or maybe she liked Mickey Mouse because he was a mouse. The world may never know. ââThey said that it would take at least an half hour and at most an hour.ââ She looked at the, hopefully, sleeping, squirrel. It looked so peaceful and she hoped that it wasnât in too much pain.
âAh, yeah, I heard about the mouse. Leila told me she tried to lure it out with something. Not really a mouse person myself, theyâre fine as long as they are sooo far away from me.â Benji was fine with making idle conversation strangers, it was pretty much how he spent all of the last year before coming to ESU. âDo you know how long you have to wait for someone to pick up the squirrel?â

â- What your museâs phone gallery is filled with?
Gifs of cute animals being cute. The odd graph here and there. A lot of doodles she drew on her phone. One picture of herself that she uses for everything. Cute pictures of cute animals. Old pictures of Boston. New pictures of Boston. A lot of panorama pictures of several city skylines, but mostly Boston. Adorable pictures of adorable animals.
