What are zygomatic implants?
Zygomatic implants are otherwise known as zygoma implants are long-shafted implants that take the support from the strongest cheekbone known as zygoma dental implants in Chennai. These implants are latest trend on replacing teeth for very atrophic maxillary bone.

The atrophy is caused due to long term tooth loss, the presence of teeth in the bone not only maintains the chewing and speaking mechanism but also the shape of the bone, the tooth-supporting bone which is known as alveolar bone retains its shape and size from the chewing pressure transferred from teeth. When a tooth is lost the bone resorbs in the region causing bone atrophy.
In the case of the maxillary bone, there are several sinuses embedded in the bone resorption that brings down the sinus, making the bone very thin to place a normal implant.
An auxiliary surgical procedure can be performed to lift the sinus if the bone thickness is more than 5mm but if its less than 5mm zygoma implant is the only option.
The implant must be placed in the maxillary bone, this procedure can be done on chairside in local anesthesia but it’s always safe to place in a surgical theater in general anesthesia to reduce the anxiety, secondary infection, and the patient will feel comfortable as it has no pain.
Single pair of zygomatic dental implants in chennai implants can be used if the atrophy is present only in the posterior or back region if the anterior or front bone is also atrophied quad zygoma that is four zygoma implants are suggested to build a solid foundation for the replacement of teeth.
Zygoma implants are placed by two method intrasinus or transinus method, intra- sinus is the implant passes through the sinus and gets connected with zygoma bone, the perforation can be done only if the sinus is clear without any infection. It’s mandatory to check for any infection in sinus because the infection will produce sinusitis and peri-implantitis. Tansinus approach bypasses the sinus and engages the cheekbone, this is done by placing the implant superficially to the maxillary sinus.
Nasal bleeding or swelling of face are generally seen after the procedure but it’s only for a very short time, its always suggested to take rest at least two days after the procedure and no physical activities and exercises should be done after procedure.
A hybrid acrylic denture is always suggested for next six months as it may be light and will not produce any further high bite pressure on the implant.
