some headcanons re: Alastor (cw. disordered eating and associated behaviors)
I've never actually talked about this on my blog, but something that I write into all of my fics in the background is this idea that, like...
Alastor is Always Hungry, forever, and it is his curse to bear in hell. It's not actually satiable, just a scale of Hungry to Starving to Ravenous, depending, and he's always skin stretched taut over bones underneath the layers of gentlemanly attire. The only way to assuage his hunger even for a time is some form of cannibalism. I know he eats deer carrion in canon, and I like that as something that fits into the cannibalism - based on his demonic form, and also, just. If he ate nice, cooked veal, that would be rather too divorced from the concept, wouldn't it? It's not biological, it's the idea of cannibalism, of consuming something sacrilegious and raw. He can eat people, and he can eat deer.
Does he eat other things? Sure, he was raised to be polite. But he's a dab hand at locking the door in a remote corner of the hotel where nobody can hear him retching it up afterward.
I also think it would be interesting if a lot of his meteoric rise to power and slaughtering of overlords when he first landed in hell was because he was starving. What is more sacrilegious than eating someone whole, soul and power and contracts and all? And that's the reason it's his curse: the clawing hunger that lives in the pit of his stomach is tied inextricably to his hunger for control and power and respect (and safety), only ever satiated for a time by the destruction of others.

pls imagine
Vox and Alastor have been sleeping together every once in a while and usually Alastor's MO is to fuck off home right after, not because he necessarily dislikes sticking around Vox (though Vox certainly takes it that way at first) but because (despite what Alastor likes to admit to himself) it makes him feel vulnerable and his instict in the aftermath is to go somewhere comfortable and familiar
Vox slowly coaxes him into staying longer and longer, usually by more or less bribing him with food and the kind of sycophantic affection that feels to Alastor as sufficiently admiring, etc, etc, but it takes him FOREVER to get Alastor into the shower with him. like, it takes an unreasonable amount of cajoling compared to the other stuff that Alastor has been blatantly allowing Vox to convince him into.
and then Alastor steps into the shower with him, looking unusually cautious, and Vox immediately learns WHY
which is: slippery wet fancy-ass marble-patterned modern shower tiling
and hooves
do not get along
anyway they both end up on the shower floor with Vox's screen case cracked in half because of course he broke Alastor's fall while Alastor gouges furrows into the shower wall and probably jabs a knee into Vox's kidneys while scrabbling to get the water off lest Vox actually short-circuit and electrocute them both. Alastor isn't opposed to a little maiming, but he hasn't had to regenerate himself from death since 1963 and this would be a horrifically embarrassing way to break that streak.
(the next time Vox manages to harangue Alastor into a shower, which is even more difficult than the first time, he's added a rubber anti-slip mat. it's bright red and patterned to look like a pool of spilled blood, which Alastor thinks is absolutely charming.)
