25, 27, and 28 for the headcanon meme!
25. How do they see themselves 5 years from today?
Solaan actually has great difficulty thinking of himself in the future. He’s not introspective at all, so he’s very unaware of these sorts of things, even if you try to direct his attention toward them. The most he’d say if you asked him this question is that he’ll be an impressive, grandiose hero with more medals and recognition than anyone has seen ever... something along those lines. But it’s not that he has any clear mindset, goals, or framework for how he sees himself. He lives very much in the present at this stage in his life.
His inner self is too afraid to think about where he might be in five years. But he’s blocked that out so well he wouldn’t even recognize he has those emotions unless someone else screamed them into his earholes for twenty minutes straight.
27. What is their biggest regret?
Definitely running away and leaving his best friend to die. Solaan ran away to save himself rather than stopping to help his friend survive. That definitely doesn’t go down well with Solaan. At all. It’s screwed him up. A lot.
28. Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?
Now that his childhood best friend is gone and he’s left his closest sister behind, it would be hard for Solaan to answer that. He would probably blurt out a name like “Josh” currently.
His worst enemy? He’d probably give some ridiculous answer about anyone who stands in the way of the galaxy’s greatest hero. But from both a cocky and a serious side, he would mention the enemies they’re fighting and investigating now!
Solaan didn’t have any real enemies when he was on his home planet, so lucky him!

1,13,7 for Solaan of course! (I'm just curious XD)
Answers will primarily be about external!Solaan, not internal!Solaan.
1. What does their bedroom look like?
Solaan’s bedroom I can see clearly in my head. It’s very small, not much better than a glorified closet. It’s longer width-wise than it is length-wise. You enter in around the right corner (the door is on the longest wall but near the right corner). The right wall is empty. In front of you on the back wall are three shelves from mid-height to ceiling. The shelves run the length of the entire wall. Beneath the shelves for the right-most third is a desk and Solaan’s only chair. Beneath the shelves on the other side is Solaan’s bed, also running length-wise. On the left wall, to the left of the bed, is both Solaan’s refrigerator/food preparation area... and on top of that something akin to a television, though far more advanced.
The room has no windows. It is very brightly lit. There are some splashes of light blue and a soft light-ish gray, though the majority of the room is painted in white - book shelves, ceiling, walls, floor, desk top, etc. Even the bed’s sheets are the light gray to match the rest of the room.
Solaan’s room is neatly cluttered. The book shelves are completely lined, though often with tech devices, random models, weird miscellaneous objects, and other things - it’s not just books (because there aren’t that many books in this time period and Solaan would prefer to store things more precisely in his tech). There are areas where it feels rather disarrayed, with books and tech devices being piles wherever there is sort-of room. The desk is never clear and there are usually a few small stacks of random items circling it. Sometimes you’ll notice Solaan falling asleep with a few tech devices, too. At the same time, there does appear to be a sense of order, and it never feels like it’s a dump. It’s comfortably lived in and well-cleaned, even if it’s not immaculately organized.
7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time?
Probably bar hopping. Solaan enjoys wandering about the Hub and finding Where The People Are At so he can socialize. He’s happy to chatter with random strangers while sipping a drink or two.
Solaan doesn’t tend to notice that he’s wasting time. He’s perky, cheerful, and has a lot of fun hanging out. And if someone points out that he is wasting time, he doesn’t mind. He keeps being perky, cheerful... and still keeps wasting time. He’s not worried about time going by at all if he’s having fun!
13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?
I don’t know if you meant to type 3 or 13, but since you typed 13 here, the answer is that Solaan’s species thinks about things a little differently. Solaan technically would be more along the asexual lines than anything else. But he’s completely chill with whatever is happening with other species - he’s too energetic and friendly and dorky to really care.
And if you did mean 3, then:
3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?
Not really no. No. He doesn’t do any regularly scheduled exercise. If he does “exercise,” it’s some sort of random, spontaneous thing that came over his mind in the sudden moment. He thinks he’s awesome at it and yet he completely screws up all the exercise drills, machines, routines, etc. If you have him do something like a pushup, he’ll get the form entirely wrong. He’ll cheat on the machines and pretend he did more reps at higher weights than he really did. He’ll be very upbeat the entire time even as he’s completely messing up what is supposed to be “exercise.” At least one thing he can do right is jump and run... that’s hard to mess up. XD

The utility tunnel was empty. Solaan rushed past thick pipes, boots clopping on a floor that echoed, echoed, echoed. He could hear his breath panting as he ran. He glanced behind him, wondering if anyone was following, or if he was charging deep into the prison by himself.
He had to remind himself that running further in was not necessarily safer. Sure, there was no one in the tunnel now... but going further into a prison meant it would be more distance to get out of it.
But that was a challenge for later.
Live in the moment now.
Keep breathing.
Keep running.
Disunity (Part 8)
[x]
Vidra told them to “get ready to run.” Solaan needed no more encouragement. He darted forward, charging straight toward the prison doors. There was no thought - or, at least, no conscious thought - only throbbing and overwhelming fear.
He kept expecting something to hit him. Some weapon, some projectile, some… something… to knock him to the ground or even kill him. He could see close calls flashing before his eyes.
And it was only halfway through his charging that he realized he had no idea where he was running to. Where did he need to go? Where was Proxy at? Vidra was around, right? Even if she were right beside him, in this chaos, he could not tell.
He did not have time to reason, think, or search around for his companions. He was out in the open. He was in danger. And though he was armed, he was very outnumbered.
The best he could think of doing was just… keep… running…

“Going now!” said Solaan, grateful for the chance to escape the action. Yet again the thought coursed through his mind: what possessed him to charge into dangerous situations like this? Why had he thought he was invincible? Why had he thought this would be fun? He wasn’t even sure he could survive this!
Solaan leaped straight for the utility tunnel. His fingers fumbled along the yellow handles for a second. But then he grasped them.
Good.
He was going in.

“ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT ME SHOOTING THINGS??!!!” Solaan shrieked, at the same time firing a pistol repeatedly and completely missing his target repeatedly, despite his target charging right at him from a few feet away. There was a second shriek as Solaan’s enemy nearly tackled him. Leaping a good thirty feet into the air, Solaan barely managed to avoid being mauled. At the same time, he aimed down, pistol shooting as quickly as its mechanism allowed. This time, he managed to hit his mark. By the time Solaan landed on the ground again, his assailant was dead.
But more were still coming, and with Vidra taking point - he assumed that meant “the front” - it meant he was further from the entrance. “Uh uh uh uh!” he called out again, hoping his voice could be heard over the firing and biotics and fighting in general. “Vidla! Hey! If there are like security measures or something near the entrance or right inside the entrance or down the hallway inside the entrance or something shouldn’t like one of us people who are somewhat okay with tech check out the door or something?!!”
He shrieked again, dancing away as yet another assailant rushed after him.
“I AM NOT A FIGHTER!!!” he squeaked.

The Intelligence of Ignorance
“Sokhana,” she groaned, rubbing a finger along the snout between her eyes. The female senaalian turned, at the same time twitching her antennae in such a way as to express disproval. “That is literally the dumbest idea I have ever heard.”
Solaan twitched perkily alongside his sister. The two of them stood alone in the small room together, with the windows shut and barred, and the door itself barricaded by a chair, such that no one on Senaalisa would be able to walk into their conversation and overhear the information.
Ledaka watched her brother closely as he maintained an utterly logic-defying chipper disposition. The words that tumbled out of his mouth were almost incoherent, but the excited and energetic tone was inescapable.
“Oh, that’s the entire point! I mean, the entire point is to be dumb. But it’s not dumb. It’s not dumb at all. Grandiose. Plan is grandiose. It’s completely smart. The entire point is I’m doing something that is very smart but it’s something you think is dumb so that’s the entire point. And don’t forget, the name’s Solaan, it’s Solaan, you know that, I’ve told you, don’t let our ancestors get angered at us. We’re still siblings, of course we are, but you know the soul of Solaan is in me now, so you better be calling me Solaan instead of Sokhana, right?”
“Right. Solaan. Sorry.”
Ledaka huffed and stepped away, turning away from her biological brother and staring at an empty wall. She frowned for a moment, took a second to lick one of her eyeballs, and then turned around. Her glare at Solaan was impeccably stern.
“My point still stands, though. You’re seriously just going to run off on fool’s errands and ditch the entire senaalian race?”
“No! No. No no no no no no no! Not at all! Not at all! Preposterous idea, completely against what I am hoping to accomplish. I might be leaving the planet, but my future heroicism across the stars will return to your people and brand you with a new form of awe, excitement, and happiness! The senaalians will all look up to me with glee because I am a hero, and -”
Ledaka cut her brother off, entirely unamused.
“Quit the shit with me, Sokha- Solaan. Quit it. You’re talking to me, the one person alive who knows your stupid charade. Drop it.”
Conflicted features ran across Solaan’s face: hurt, concern, and above it all, a defiant glibness.
“Oh come on sis! I’m not close with like all of my siblings except you and stuff, I mean you’re the only one I’m close to from my siblings, so that means you should totally know that this is entirely me!”
“Sort of you,” she amended. She sighed. Pacing around her brother, she began peeling away his layers, bit by bit, in an utterly scathing tone of voice.
“Being happy, cheerful, I know it’s the way you ‘deal’ with all the dry spells and tormenting heat in your life. If you pretend to be naive long enough, maybe that’ll mean emotionally on the inside you’ll be experiencing the bliss of ignorance. If you act happy all the time, then that means you never have to deal with the issues eating the inside of your soul. By being so cheerful, you guarantee that you can keep on pushing away the things that you never want to be serious enough to confront.”
A happy voice confronted her. “Ledaka, what do you -”
“QUIET!” she hissed. She waved a hand angrily in his direction. Then she continued.
“You actually seem to believe you’re that happy. And I think you are happy and as perky as you act. That’s how much you’re steeped in your own lies. Your own intentional lies. If people lie to themselves long enough, they do start to believe and live it. That’s what you’ve intentionally done to yourself - cocoon yourself away from all your problems, all your stresses, all your grievances, all your pain. You actually do believe you have no problems and stresses and grievances and pain because you don’t ever take the time to self-reflect.”
“I know who I am, Ledaka!” Solaan managed to insert that comment into the center of her tirade. His voice was shaking a little bit, but he still managed to sound fairly juvenile and innocent. “I know who I am, I definitely do, and I know who I’m going to become! I’m going to be a -”
“A roving space hero, I know,” she said dryly. “Look, brother,” she said, leaning toward him. Their eyes were almost touching, she leaned in so close. “You need to reflect internally. All you do is run away. Run away emotionally. And now, you’re going to be running away physically. Run away, run away, run away! For all you can be analytical and level-headed with your precious scientific data, you are absolutely incapable of seeing what’s inside your own soul! Absolutely obtuse. Shallow! You’re never going to confront your issues, and so you’re never going to grow.”
“I’ll have a new life!” Solaan protested. “I’ll be going out into space, doing something new and exciting! I’ll save people! I’ll be growing TONS! I’ll grow more than anyone’s ever grown in all of senaalian history and maybe histories of other peoples as well!”
“You’re going to be a buffoon.”
For once, silence descended in Ledaka’s household.
Solaan’s eyes stared down at the floor. His feet shuffled. His antennae twitched. And then he said, slowly, quietly, with none of the chipper eagerness of before:
“Yes.”
His sister recognized the change in vocal tone immediately. She sighed, but this time, not in exasperation. It was relief.
“There you are,” she said. “There’s my brother. Not the twitchy idiot who acts like a child - a child who never could have been a commendable researcher for the senaalian government. Here’s the real deal: the cogent adult who rationally led a team across Senaalisa’s greatest scientific frontiers.”
He stared her in the eye. His gaze was piercing, keen, almost as intense as hers was. But the edge was lost somewhat from the sadness that leaked behind.
“I don’t need to be that person,” he said.
“So you’re going to be a blathering dimwit for the rest of your days?”
“I refuse to be that person,” he enunciated, still continuing on his train of thought, and completely ignoring his sibling’s latest interjection. “I hate that person. You were the only one who liked the level-headed me anyway. Only came out when it had to. Just enough to place me in control for scientific endeavors and to be respected by my peers.”
“The level-headed you is what made you an extraordinary asset to Senaalisa’s scientific community.”
“The level-headed not-me is what killed...”
He stopped his sentence. Never finished.
“You know I can’t stay here,” he said, backing up. He was moving toward the barricaded door and pushing away the chair that was blocking his exit. “I cannot live with the press, the interviews, the questions, the concerns of why I was the only survivor on the mission. I cannot live continuing a life that destroyed what I cared about the most. I cannot live in any way here on the planet so long as people know who I am and what I’ve done. There’s no way to escape it on Senaalisa. The best way to get over this is to disappear by completely changing my image and heading off to the far reaches of the galaxy. No one will find me out there, not any of you.
“And you know...” he gave a wry smirk “...I was always bored with offices and paperwork.”
Solaan gestured widely, almost grandly. “Think about it this way, Tsela Ledaka. It’s a new challenge for me. A new field of exploration. A way for me to keep exploring where I’ve always wanted to go.”
“It’s self-denial and avoiding your shit,” she said flatly. But then, with a shrug-like twitch of her antennae, she continued, “but I realize I’m not going to change your mind. You can’t self-reflect. You can’t, even when you try. Not in your charaded personality, and not in your real personality, either. Nothing I say will make you think through your issues. Nothing I say will keep you from running away forever and pretending you never were who you actually are. So I guess all I can do...” and her face finally softened “...is wish you the best.”
“I’ll miss you,” he said.
She turned away, but there was distress on her face. It was clear Ledaka did not want Solaan to see her this upset.
“I’ll miss you, too,” she said.
When she turned around, he was gone.
#abchron#this should explain how he's a blundering idiot but also someone who was a commendable researcher in his past life#aka he's actually not as naive as he appears#to really spell it out#he's an adult and a rational individual#who has swaddled himself in layers and layers and layers and layers of being perky

Vidra’s shout caught Solaan just in time. He realized he had in fact almost run out of the barrier. With his long legs and log stride, he had almost left the others behind and put himself out in the dangerous open.
He forced himself to slow down, to jog alongside the turian to the passage on the right.

“Subtlety. Of course. Subtlety. I’m the master of subtlety! I’m so subtle, you never would even realize I’m being subtle!”
Solaan’s voice, if anything, was louder than before.
He pointed toward a pristine, shining ship. Granted, it was not the most recent Collective build, and it was not the most top-of-the-line vessel, but it was probably not the sort of inconspicuous ship Elyse wanted.
“Hey! That one looks pretty neat! It doesn’t look like the weapons are too big on that one or something, and it looks big enough to carry all of us! And it looks cool enough that we’ll make a good impression to the clubs when we go in for a landing at our vacation destination. Whaddya say? Take that one?”
His voice was still loud, the very definition of non-subtle. Megaphones would have been jealous of his ability to project.
A Random Diversion
@hubwalker1 @kroottheflora (anyone else who wants to randomly have fun)
Solaan was always excited to run into some friends on the Hub, even though it was likely that he would do so on any given day. Still, the second Solaan crashed into Josh and Kroot, he was beaming.
“Hey! Hey! Josha! Kloot! I was just looking for you! I had an idea! Do you and like anyone else want to go off the Hub and check out one of the nearby planets? I hear there’s a world with a high population density that has some cool urban areas and stuff to do there! We could go get drinks or go to arcades or amusement parks or anything!”

Solaan led the way away from Josh and Mira, conspicuously knowing the directions toward the Collective’s smaller organic-sustainable vessels. They passed by heavy traffic, organic beings wandering about the hub docks near larger ships. But as they stepped further down the docks, they came to less-frequented passageways, where very few organics appeared to be stepping to and for.
But Solaan walked with purpose, confidence, as though he had complete and utter reason to be here. The ships were held in pods in rows and rows and columns and columns above their heads, like repeating cells in a beehive. All were constructed with the notable triangular construction familiar to the Collective. Hallways parallel to their ran above and below them, leading to the ships. Periodic elevators, ladders, and other methods of traversing the levels gave Solaan and his company access to any ship they so chose.
“Alrighty. So what sorta ship do we want, eh?” he said loudly and gleefully.

Solaan jumped up in the air - a short jump for him, but one which probably got as much air as he was tall. He turned around, long spikes from his head swishing behind him, as he oriented himself to Elyse.
“Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah! Let’s go with the original plan! Take a ship. Hijack and hotwire and away we go!”

Solaan seemed completely oblivious to the somewhat ponderous tone in Kroot’s voice. The senaalian just kept blabbing. Thankfully, at least, they were both wondering about the same thing: what this new planet would be like.
“I mean, I hear that it’s ragingly cosmopolitan. Ragingly cosmopolitan. Like the Hub but with more and more and more people! Aliens from all corners of the galaxy, all sorts of species like you couldn’t believe! I mean, I’ve met lots of different species but it’s always so interesting to enter a planet where its entire culture thrives on the DIVERSITY of SO MANY DIFFERENT CREATURES!” And somewhat unrelated, he mused, “I wonder what their zoos are like?”
