by the way i think the headcanon of zayne and caleb rivalry and the idea caleb dislikes zayne approach it from the wrong angle. if there's any frostiness between them it's because zayne hurt mc with his evol and caleb never forgave him for it. yes OF COURSE it was an accident and zayne would never do anything like that intentionally, and i think a part of caleb knows too. but it's always been an "us vs them" issue for caleb, and zayne is an outsider, and that one outsider he let get close, who mc liked the most, ending up nearly killing her would have irreversibly damaged zayne-caleb friendship. all that matters to him is that mc was so hurt she had to be hospitalized. if zayne wouldn't have left immediately afterwards i believe caleb would be on "don't go near him again" bs with mc. main story ch 4 caleb was friendly and normal enough to invite zayne for dinner, but there's the wind of a suggestion that zayne is keeping his distance. perhaps caleb got over his resentment as he grew up but of course zayne blames himself and that incident has defined his entire life. the POTENTIAL of their dynamic really fascinates me ugh
