Hold on tight to this time, this place 'Cause everything you know will be erased
You were born inside your head and that is where you'll be when you are dead
You are just a boy, you are no man and Nobody you know will understand
You are just a boy, you are no man and Nobody you know will understand
Do you see the vision I have?

Something else so insignificant I can’t help fixate on is this interaction between the Saiki brothers, if I remember correctly this is the first time Kusuke involves other people that ARENT close to Kusuo (or at least at this point Kusuo doesn’t know his grandparents are also affected yet) into one of his plans
And the thing is he kinda comes off as genuinely surprised that his younger brother is so upset at the thought alone that he possibly harmed the locals, because why would he care so much for a bunch of strangers? Him caring about Kaidou and Nendou kinda makes sense since they’re friends, but I think he didn’t believe that Kusuo might’ve had the capacity to care beyond that
A thought reinforced by what Kusuke says in the end, “even you” which has not so great implications over his already unhealthy view of Kusuo but also reminds Kusuo himself about his brother’s perception on him. I do think it had a bit of impact on him because of how blank his eyes are when he responds, sure it could just be a inking error but I like to overthink it

I think about these two pages and their implications so often
#saiki k#tdlosk#the disastrous life of saiki k.#Having Kurumi as his mom definitely stopped this possibility like Saiki himself says but!!#Saiki had to choose to listen to her he already had to have some innate goodness to not break#I’m not sure if that makes sense or if not innate then make the choice to be good

Whenever I remember how Kusuo remembered himself as a baby and his younger years and how after skimming n looking back I couldn’t find anything from his pov where he was mean to his dad it makes me wonder…
How much of this is it possibly Kuniharu projecting because he’s so insecure? He might be smarter than the average baby but Kusuo is still very much a baby here
The first one feels like him experimenting on what he can do, the second comes off as him cleaning the wall after hearing what Kuniharu says he possibly could’ve been smiling in a ‘I took care of it way’ that was warped by Kuniharu’s hurt ego
And then the last just feels like a super powered baby taking things literally

Something that sticks out to me that didn’t make it into the anime is Saiki saying he doesn’t think he wants to become a normal person at that point
I kinda wish it made it into the anime because it marks a interesting point A, what happened that made him change his mind and reach point b?
My personal theory is that it’s a mix of him getting more attached to his friends and the memories he buried getting brought to the surface, like he was hiding his powers just fine before that point and once again it boils down to him actually wanting to fit in but also his powers feeling even more like a burden since he feels guilt over how they drag his friends into his messes
#saiki k#tdlosk#the disastrous life of saiki k.#I don’t have the words to expand upon this further 😭

I finally figured out why this scene always nagged at me, this is more of my interpretation but! It kinda feels like Kusuo is feeling more surprised and a bit touched that Kuniharu is actually acting like how a dad should for once instead of at what he’s actually saying
What drives it home for me is how in this close up we can’t see Kusuo’s glasses or limiters, maybe because he actually feels like a normal kid with a normal dad in that moment, none of ‘abnormalness is in the way to make his dad act like he usually does
And it feels like he goes downstairs to honor how his dad was actually acting mature but not quite to do what he said, he was fully prepared to get his friends to leave
It’s only until he hears them talking about how they like him the way he is that he changes his mind and we get another glow moment but this time everything that others him is visible
And it’s the same feeling I get here, his glasses might be visible but not his limiters. He feels like a kid and his mom is being the adult and taking care of the situation and defending him
For all the maturity Kusuo projects, he’s still a kid that wants to be able to rely on his parents

the ppl who dismiss the abuse in saiki k because its a joke or because its slapstick drive me bonkers 😭i kno fiction isnt reality but it makes me wonder what other jokes they let slide when their so uncritical of even this
It drives me crazy too!! And honestly the way a lot of it is delivered is interesting because at first it could be read as a joke but then you look back and it’s so obvious to see it actually left a impact on Saiki in certain ways he acts/thinks
Like Kuniharu saying he’s ’practically a monster’ and then you remember there was a whole chapter where he thinks he isn’t even human

I’m always thinking of the implications of what Kuniharu is saying here, how much he disdains Kusuo’s personality or at least the part of him that tries setting his foot down on doing everything for his dad because he thinks he should be acting like an adult instead of depending on him. Regardless it irks at his ego enough that he knows he would’ve lashed back violently, it’s so ugh
#saiki k#the disastrous life of saiki k.#tdlosk#And sure some people will claim it’s just a joke but I think there’s a reason it’s such a tiny easy to gloss over panel
