Two perfect face masks to try today
Nothing is too private for selfies. And had it not been for grotesque selfies of women in masks dominating Instagram, we would never have known of this trend that has taken the world by storm. Newsflash: This has nothing to do with Halloween but everything to do with skincare.
It all started when someone discovered that South Korea makes cosmetics like the sheet masks that are a woman’s go-to skin care remedy. And so the trend started with universal skin care giants quickly hopping on to the bandwagon to create sheet masks. The mask, looks like a regular mask, with holes for eyes and the mouth but is actually fine cotton cloth pre-soaked in serums that promise to hydrate your skin, tighten your pores, give you dewy complexion, make you look younger, fight acne, brighten your skin and achieve world peace.
(We just made of up the last one). But that’s what the hype around face masks has built up to – there’s nothing they can’t do. All that it asks of you is to snip the packet in which it appears, and place the mask on your face and wait for the magic to happen. With some masks, you don’t even need to wash your face. Keep the serum on. Dermatologists are not convinced they’re as good as regular masks but in a pinch, they’re fine.
A great favourite with travellers. The only side effect – you might feel like taking a selfie when you have it on.Another face mask that is gaining a lot of attention is the bubble face mask. First there was Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask and the rest is history with many me-toos in double quick time. This one resembles cement and so far looks about as exciting as any other face mask. And just when you begin to wonder what all the fuss is about, wait until you spread it on your face.
And in minutes the face mask starts to bubble, slowly at first and then into a full blown bubble breakout that looks like you have shave foam on your face. Users have experienced a tingly feeling along with the bubbling. The affect effects are soft, dewy clean skin. And yes, the urge to take a selfie when the bubbles are doing their thing.

Teenage Acne: How To Treat It Naturally And Effectively
Just stepped into your teens? If yes, guess who’s knocking at the door? Acne!
You can’t stay in a state of denial for long. It’s a fact that puberty and acne go hand in hand. It’s so common that acne is considered a normal part of your “officially adult” years now. But then, knowing this isn’t going to make those red bumps on your face vanish. Nor is whining about them while staring at your face in the mirror going to work. So, what’s the solution? That’s what I am going to discuss here in this article. Let’s dig in.
Table Of Contents
What Causes Teenage Acne?
How To Get Rid Of Teenage Acne
Teenage Acne: Natural Remedies
Clear Teenage Acne With These Topical Treatments
What Causes Teenage Acne?
Let me make it clear – every teenager gets acne. Some get just one or two, and some get a face full of these outbreaks. This happens because when you hit puberty, there’s an excess of a hormone called androgen in your body. This hormone makes your oil glands active, causing excess oil (or sebum) production. It also triggers the growth of the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria.Too much sebum on your skin blocks the hair follicles or the pores, and the infected pores turn into acne.
You may get:
A whitehead (when the pore is clogged and bulges out)
A blackhead (when the pore is clogged, but exposure to air makes the top blackish)
A pustule or a pimple (a blocked red and inflamed pore with pus)
Cysts (large, red, and painful bumps that go deep in the skin)
Whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples are types of inflammation that are relatively easy to treat. Cysts are the form of acne you should be worried about.
Fret not. Here is what you can do to clear acne and prevent further breakouts.
How To Get Rid Of Teenage Acne
Follow these skin care and lifestyle tips to fight teenage acne:
1. Clean Your Face Twice A Day
I know you have heard this many times, but irrespective of the status of your acne breakouts, clean your face twice a day religiously. It helps in removing the excess oil, dead skin cells, and other impurities from your face. Remember, if you wash your face more than twice a day, it will only rob your skin of the natural oils and make it dry. Using body soap on the face is a strict no-no. Use a gentle face wash and lukewarm water for washing your face.
2. Use A Toner
Be it fighting breakouts or controlling the oil production of your skin, a toner comes extremely handy. It cleans your skin after you have washed it. A toner erases the remaining traces of impurities as well as the residue of your cleanser or face wash. It wipes all dirt and impurities away, unclogging the pores and preventing acne breakouts.
3. Don’t Forget The Serum
Most of you might wonder about what a serum actually does. And that’s why you often avoid using it altogether. Serums contain active agents that penetrate your skin and keep it acne-free and clear. A little bit goes a long way. After toning, once the skin and pores are clear, apply a serum and blend gently. Do not rub. Apply with gentle yet firm strokes.
4. Nourish With A Moisturizer
Acne products often make the skin dry, which is why moisturizing your skin is important. A good quality moisturizer minimizes the dryness and prevents skin peeling. When buying a moisturizer, always opt for the non-comedogenic ones. Non-comedogenic products are specially prepared for dry, oily, and combination skin, and they don’t block your pores.
5. Exfoliate Your Skin
Scrubbing is something that you should avoid if you have acne. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation clears all the dead skin cells from your skin and makes it smooth. But you need to be careful. Avoid using a granular scrub as it might irritate your skin. You might use chemical exfoliants. And make sure you exfoliate only once or twice a week.
6. Sunscreen Is A Must
If you thought that sunscreen causes breakouts, you are wrong. If you are using acne medication, you need sun protection to avoid discoloration. Even if it’s not a sunny day, don’t walk out without applying sunscreen. The clouds can’t stop the UV rays from damaging your skin, especially if you have acne.
7. Spot Treatment Is Required
Acne often leaves ugly spots behind. And it’s important to treat these spots. Although you can talk to your dermatologist and use over-the-counter products for spot reduction, you can also try other natural methods. Tea tree oil is known for treating both acne and acne spots. In case you are buying products containing it, make sure they contain at least 10% tea tree oil. Otherwise, it’s of no use.
8. Avoid Squeezing And Touching The Acne
I know it’s tempting, but don’t do it. It not only spreads the infection but also further irritates your already inflamed skin. Popping acne and pimples also causes scarring and infection.
9. Stay Hydrated
When your body is dehydrated, it makes your skin dry and prone to irritation. This can trigger acne or make it worse. Your body is 70% water. And this water mainly serves two purposes in your body – first, it carries nutrients to all your cells, and second, it flushes out all toxins from your body. Lack of water will slow down the elimination of toxins from your body and skin. This increases the likelihood of acne.
10. Say Goodbye To Acne With Vitamins And Minerals
Vitamin A, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids are known to reduce acne inflammation. Vitamin A is said to control acne outbreaks when applied topically. This is because most of the medications containing vitamin A alter it into retinoid after topical application, which promotes quick healing. Zinc helps in controlling oil production, and omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that help clear acne.
11. Use Makeup Sparingly
This is the best thing you can do to avoid teenage acne or pimples. Avoid using makeup during a breakout. And if you wear makeup, wash it off completely at the end of the day. Always choose makeup products that are oil-free and non-comedogenic.
12. Detox Your Body
Avoid processed and junk foods. This is one of the many ways through which you can reduce the amount of toxins that build up in your system. Processed foods and sugary drinks contain artificial flavors and colors, and they are low in nutritional value. Instead, increase your intake of organic foods such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to keep your gut healthy.
13. Eat Your Way To Acne-Free Skin
What you eat affects your skin. Fill your plate with food that helps you fight inflammation. Include complex carbohydrates such as legumes, whole grains, and unprocessed vegetables and fruits in your diet. Consume lots of orange and yellow fruits and veggies, such apricots, carrots, and sweet potatoes, fish such as salmon and other fatty fish, nuts, tomatoes, and beans.
14. Be Aware Of What You Put In Your Hair
Your hair care products can also give you breakouts. Hair gels, sprays, and pomades irritate the skin a lot as they contain high levels of alcohol. Most of the breakouts in your scalp are due to chemical build-up or allergies to the ingredients. Pomades and other chemicals clog your pores and prevent the release of oil or sebum, thus causing breakouts. Clean your scalp thoroughly and avoid using too many chemicals on your hair.
15. Avoid Stress
Stress aggravates acne. Scientists are still studying the correlation between stress and acne flare-ups. The cells that produce sebum or oil have receptors for stress hormones. Experts suspect that stress might upregulate the oil-producing cells, which results in further breakouts and worsens the condition. So, if you have acne, don’t stress.
16. Check Your Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol consumption triggers testosterone and estrogen levels in men and women. Testosterone triggers the production of androgen that activates the oil glands in your body (or face). Moreover, alcohol consumption increases the body’s stress levels and triggers the release of cortisol, the stress hormone. This may worsen your acne.
These were some skin care and lifestyle routine tips that you should follow. Apart from that, you can try some natural and home remedies to treat teenage acne. Take a look:
Teenage Acne: Natural Remedies
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
You Will Need
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ cup water
2-3 drops tea tree essential oil (optional)

Use a cotton pad to apply the toner to the affected area or spray it on your face.
Why It Works
Apple cider vinegar contains succinic, citric, acetic, and lactic acids that can kill the acne-causing bacteria Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent breakouts and reduce acne scarring.
2. Lemon JuiceYou Will Need
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon turmeric powder
Method
Add the lemon juice to turmeric powder and make a paste.
Apply the paste on the affected area.
Leave it on to dry and then wash off.
Why It Works

3. Honey Face Mask
You Will Need
¼ cup honey (organic)
½ lemon
Method
Prep your skin by steaming (heat water in a bowl and bend your face over it for a few minutes). This will open up the pores.
Squeeze half a lemon into the honey and mix well.
Apply it all over the face and let it dry.
Wash your face with warm water first, followed by cold water (to close the pores).
Why It Works
Lemon helps in clearing blackheads and removes the dead skin cells. Honey has antioxidant and antibacterial properties and keeps your skin moisturized.
4. Tea Tree OilYou Will Need
3- 4 drops tea tree oil
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
Method
Combine the oil with the gel and apply it to the affected area.
Keep it on for 15- 20 minutes and then wash it off.
Why It Works
Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties while fresh aloe vera gel soothes your skin. This pack is suitable for all skin types.
Natural and DIY methods take time to show results. In case you want quick results, you can opt for over-the-counter medicines. However, always consult a dermatologist before using any ointment on your skin.
Clear Teenage Acne With These Topical Treatments
1. Benzoyl Peroxide
When applied to the skin, it works like an antiseptic and prevents the growth of P. acnes. It is anti-inflammatory and acts on the bacteria via oxidation (injects oxygen in your pores) to eliminate the bacteria, oil, and dirt. It is available as cream, gel, soap, lotion, and foam.
2. Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid contains beta-hydroxy acid or BHA. It penetrates the pores of your skin and works as an exfoliant. The cells on the hair follicle linings of people with acne multiply quickly and tend to stick to each other, causing acne. Salicylic acid eliminates the substance that sticks the cells together. Also, it has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin and calms redness and inflammation caused by acne.
3. Alpha Hydroxy Acids
The dermatologist mostly uses acne treatments involving alpha hydroxy acids. The process is known as chemical peeling. Alpha hydroxy acids peel the top layer of your skin, removing all the dead skin cells and unclogging the pores. Once the old skin is gone, a new, clear skin replaces it. The most common alpha hydroxy acid used for acne treatment is glycolic acid. You can buy products containing alpha hydroxy acid of up to 10% concentration for DIY chemical peeling.
4. Sulfur
This is one of the oldest treatments for acne. It treats not only acne but also other skin issues such as warts, dandruff, and dermatitis. When you apply sulfur-containing products on the affected area, it makes the skin dry and peel off, thus unclogging the pores and getting rid of all the dead cells. It also helps in controlling the oiliness and has antimicrobial properties. You will get cleansers, soaps, face masks, and other products containing sulfur.
5. Antibiotics
If over-the-counter medications are not working for you, consult a dermatologist. He/She might prescribe antibiotics for killing bacteria and reducing acne. The doctor may suggest a combination of benzoyl peroxide and antibiotics (in case your body is resistant to benzoyl peroxide). This includes antibiotics such as Duac, Benzamycin, Benzaclin, and Acanya. The dermatologist may also suggest oral antibiotics for treating moderate to severe acne.
Do not freak out when you find those red bumps popping out on your face, neck, and shoulder areas. Self-care is the best way to cure acne. Try and follow the methods discussed here. And, of course, don’t forget to book an appointment with the dermatologist.

Also called grenade in French, raman in Arabic, and anaar in Hindi, pomegranate is both delicious and nutritious. To know more, just keep reading.
Being rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants, pomegranates can help delay the signs of aging. These antioxidants also fight skin inflammation and treat acne breakouts and dark spots. They also naturally brighten the skin.
1. Boost Skin Health Benefits Of Pomegranates Pomegranates - Boost Skin Health
Pomegranates are rich in vitamin C, a nutrient quite important for skin health. They are also packed with antioxidants like proanthocyanidins and flavonoids that work great for the skin by delaying the signs of aging (like wrinkles).
You can take 2 tablespoons of pomegranate peel powder and add to it 1 tablespoon each of lemon juice and honey. Mix well to form a smooth paste. Apply this to your face and neck and leave it on for 15 minutes. Wash with lukewarm water. This face pack can remove dark spots and treat pigmentation and even brighten the skin naturally. It also has anti-aging effects.
2. Treat Several Skin Issues The antioxidants in pomegranate seeds/powder combat acne breakouts and the resultant inflammation. A face pack consisting of 2 tablespoons of crushed pomegranate seeds and 1 tablespoon of turmeric can work wonders. You just need to apply it to the affected areas and wash with cold water after 15 minutes.
Application of pomegranate seed oil is known to help cure eczema and psoriasis. And pomegranate leaves might also help manage vitiligo – some sources say mixing crushed pomegranate leaves with water and drinking it can help ease the condition. We need more research here, though.
Pomegranates can also boost the skin’s ability to protect itself from the sun, and this can be helpful in treating melasma. Eating a pomegranate daily can also help treat rosacea, thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties of the fruit – which inhibits the inflammatory activity of human mast cells.
or Hair The powerful antioxidants in pomegranates strengthen the hair follicles and improve circulation to the scalp. The seed oil has been known to be an effective treatment for frizzy, kinky, and entangled hair.
3. Improve Hair Health Eating pomegranate seeds can help strengthen the hair follicles. Because the seeds, and especially the seed oil, contain punicic acid – an ingredient that makes the hair strong. It also is known to improve circulation to the hair scalp and stimulate hair growth.
The oil can also be used in hot oil treatments for smoothing frizzy hair and conditioning kinky, curly and wavy hair – the oil also detangles your hair and moisturizes the hair shaft.
Pomegranate seed paste might also reverse graying.
Pomegranates For Health Being antioxidant-rich, pomegranates boost heart health by lowering high cholesterol and blood pressure levels. They also possess anticancer and anti-diabetic properties. While the fiber in them improves digestive health and helps in weight loss, other antioxidants fight inflammation, cancer, and arthritis.
4. Pomegranate Seeds Can Boost Heart Health Eating pomegranate seeds can boost heart health as well. The powerful antioxidants in the fruit increase the activity of the good cholesterol and break down the harmfully oxidized lipids – thereby cutting the risk of atherosclerosis
The fruit (and especially the leaf extract) was also found to reduce serum cholesterol levels . In another study, cells treated with pomegranates suffered less stress-induced damage. The study concludes by stating how pomegranates can help improve clogged arteries
The seeds also lower blood pressure levels. They not only improve the blood flow to the cardiovascular system but also reduce high blood pressure and treat inflammation.
5. Pomegranates Cut Cancer Risk Pomegranates have been found to cut the risk of prostate cancer. Though more research is warranted, this is an encouraging step in the right direction.
The anticancer properties of pomegranate seeds can be attributed to certain components called ellagitannins that prevent cancer cell proliferation and also induce cell death. They also help prevent skin cancer  Pomegranate seeds were also found to have chemopreventive effects against cancers of the colon and lungs
Pomegranate extracts also help cut the blood supply to tumors, thereby starving them and making them smaller
6. Aid Diabetes Treatment Benefits Of Pomegranates Pomegranates - Aid Diabetes Treatment
Studies have shown that the sugars in pomegranates had no negative impact on diabetes parameters. They were also found to cut the risk of diabetes-related atherosclerosis
Some other important compounds in pomegranates like ellagic, gallic, and ursolic acids, were found to have anti-diabetic properties. The sugars in the seeds also possess unique antioxidant polyphenols that can help prevent type 2 diabetes
7. Pomegranate Seeds Can Help Fight Inflammation Eating pomegranate seeds can help fight inflammation and the related inflammatory disorders. Studies have shown that the consumption of pomegranates can reduce inflammation and the oxidative damage caused by free radicals
This anti-inflammatory property of pomegranates is further beneficial for individuals suffering from arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. There is evidence showing how pomegranates can reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis by decreasing the tenderness of and the pain in the joints, suppressing inflammation, and inhibiting the production of a cartilage-destroying enzyme
Pomegranates might also help fight gout by helping reduce excess uric acid. However, we need more information on this.
8. Pomegranates Strengthen Teeth Recent studies have proven that pomegranates work wonderfully well in strengthening the gums and fastening loose teeth. They are also effective against oral bacteria as they possess antimicrobial properties. Research has found that pomegranate seeds can have a positive effect on dental plaque microorganisms
In another study, a gel made from the fruit was found to be effective in treating gingivitis
9. Pomegranate Seeds Boost Digestive Health Pomegranate seeds boost digestive health as they have B-complex vitamins. These vitamins help your body convert fat, protein, and carbohydrates into energy. The seeds also contain fiber, another essential nutrient for digestion. This fiber prevents and treats constipation as well.
And given the anti-inflammatory properties, the seeds can treat other gastrointestinal issues like ulcerative colitis
But please keep in mind that pomegranate is an acidic food (has a pH of 3), and it can aggravate certain digestive problems like heartburn, acid reflux, or even GERD (and stomach and mouth ulcers as well). Hence, check with your doctor in this regard.
10. Promote Weight Loss Evidence states that pomegranates have been used in numerous instances to promote weight loss. And this can be attributed to the fiber in the fruits.
Studies also show how pomegranate seeds can play a preventive role in obesity . The seeds, and especially the pomegranate leaf extract, were found to induce fat loss. This can be a positive step towards healthy weight loss
11. Pomegranate Seeds Strengthen The Immune System The powerful antioxidants in pomegranate seeds strengthen the immune system. Studies show how they can effectively combat bacteria and viruses that otherwise affect human health
And not just that, pomegranates also help treat several other ailments associated with a weakened immune system. One preliminary study (we need more information, though) talks about how pomegranate might help treat obstructive pulmonary disease (Though the fruit hadn’t improved the effects of the drugs, there is hope. It might also heal other respiratory ailments like bronchitis and throat infection (studies are being conducted on this).
Since pomegranate is rich in nutrients, it helps combat fatigue and exhaustion. It is rich in iron and improves blood health. And it also helps maintain a normal platelet count, which is crucial for recovery from diseases like dengue and malaria. Pomegranate also reduces liver injury associated with malaria.
Some sources say it might also aid typhoid treatment, but we don’t know that for sure yet.
12. Are Beneficial During Pregnancy Consuming pomegranates during pregnancy, as per studies, can lower the risk of injury to the placenta. The antioxidants in them protect the placenta from damage by free radicals. And given they are also rich in folate, they can boost your health during pregnancy and prevent birth defects.
Pomegranate seeds can also reduce brain damage in the newborn. But do talk to your doctor about this once – as pomegranate extracts were found to cause uterine contractions in pregnant women. Eating them could be the best way to avail their benefits.
Giving pomegranates to women with high-risk pregnancies late in their first trimester can help them have healthier babies . And pomegranates also work well for new mothers – they increase the production of breast milk, according to some sources. They also work as a great blood purifier.
Though evidence is limited, pomegranates might also treat infertility in women.
13. Pomegranates Can Improve Menstrual Health Benefits Of Pomegranates Pomegranates - Can Improve Menstrual Health
Preliminary studies have confirmed that pomegranates can help with menstrual irregularity. They can also trigger uterine contractions and, in a way, boost uterine health. But we need more studies to confirm this.
And since pomegranates are rich in fiber, they can also aid the treatment of yeast infection. They kill the responsible fungi and encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria. Irregular periods can also be due to anemia – and since pomegranates are rich in iron, they can treat this issue.
14. Pomegranates Can Treat Erectile Dysfunction One American study had proved that pomegranates could treat mild to moderate erectile dysfunction
They were also found to improve male fertility.
15. Treat Kidney Stones Pomegranates can improve kidney function and flush stones and other toxins from your system. They also lower the acidity levels of urine – and this plays a role in cutting the risk of potential kidney stones in the future.
They are also rich in antioxidants – which help prevent bacteria from latching onto the walls of the urinary bladder. This helps ward off urinary tract infections. And the vitamin C in them boosts immunity and helps fight such infections.
16. Can Prevent Fatty Liver Disease Pomegranate seeds reduce oxidative stress and inflammation, and, as a result, help fight fatty liver disease. Regular consumption of pomegranates was found to prevent non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
They have also been found to protect the liver in the case of jaundice
17. Other Possible Benefits Though we have information from some sources, there is very less research on these. Pomegranates might boost thyroid health, improve vision, treat migraines and varicose veins, and enhance sleep quality.
But we suggest you talk to your doctor before using pomegranates for any of these benefits.
That’s with the benefits of pomegranates. But wait – there must be an ideal dose, right?
What Is The Recommended Daily Allowance Of Pomegranate Seeds? Though there is no strict dosage as such, you can eat 1 1/2 to 2 cups of the seeds on a daily basis.
But why should you even eat the seeds on a daily basis? Because of their rich nutritional profile.
What Are The Most Important Nutrients In Pomegranate Seeds? Just one cup of pomegranate seeds contains 7 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein (and 24 grams of sugar and 144 calories). It also contains 18 grams of vitamin C (30% of the RDA) and 29 micrograms of vitamin K (36% of the RDA). It also contains 16% of the RDA of folate and 12% of the RDA of potassium.

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it's one of the first things people notice about you. Whatever the sins you've committed against it in the past, it's never too late to start taking care of it and repair some damage.
You don't need to run out and buy every skin care product on the shelves. You can keep it glowing, radiant, and younger-looking with these basic skin care tips you can do at right at home.
Keep it clean.
Avoid laying on your face. Try getting used to sleeping on your back.
Drink eight glasses of water every day to keep it hydrated.
Use an alcohol-free toner to clean out pores.
Don't tug and pull the skin around your eyes. Be Gentle.
Don't take steaming hot baths or showers because it has an immediate drying affect. Keep it short.
After bathing, pat dry your skin and apply a body lotion to seal in the moisture.
Save heavier moisturizers for nighttime. Use light ones under makeup.
If your skin is sensitive, it's best to look for products and cosmetics that prevent irritation.
Use a humidifier in the winter and dehumidifier in the summer.
Exercise will increase your circulation and give your skin a healthy glow.
Never pick a mole. If one looks suspicious or is bothersome, your dermatologist can remove it with a very simple procedure and run a biopsy.
For bags underneath your eyes, put a couple of spoons in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Relax and apply to your eyes to reduce swelling. Read more tips for bags and under-eye circles here.
Exfoliate once a week including your neck and upper chest area.
Rinse your face in cool water to close your pores. This will help reduce their size.
After showering, apply lotion to your elbows, knees and feet.
A simple home remedy for blemishes is antibacterial soap.
Lemon juice doubles as a facial mask and pore-reducer.

How to get a beauty treatment with natural ingredients
Many of us are blessed with good skin and hair but over the years, external and internal factors affect our beauty and that makes us turn to cosmetic products that are expensive and loaded with chemicals. If you are looking for solutions to get that glow back in your skin or to get rid of other woes like cellulite and blackheads, here’s what you can do. This festive season, look your best without spending anything at all. Here are natural remedies that are easy and quick. Chirag Mohanty Samal shows you how to whip up beauty treats at home.
You’re in a celebratory mode, and it’s time to look your best. But for that, you don’t need to spend a bomb. Instead of booking expensive appointments at the salon, check your kitchen closet— it holds the secret to magic potions that will clear zits, pores, acne and other skin woes. Beauty expert Suparna Trikha and ace dermatologist Dr Deepali Bhardwaj come together to figure out natural home remedies for every single problem. Feel good, look good and celebrate the good times!
Banish cellulite
Let’s get real—there’s no instant solution to get rid of cellulite, but consistent use of scrubs over a period of time will make a visible difference. This home-made scrub battles cellulite, wrinkles, blackheads and dull skin. Olive oil, which is rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, draws out the free radicals and improves blood circulation. It also moisturises and protects your skin from dehydration. “Sugar acts as an exfoliator and helps open and clear pores, and aids the skin in absorbing the ingredients,” says beauty expert Suparna Trikha. Since scrubs help in exfoliating the skin, you don’t have to use them every single day. Once in a week or 10 days is a good idea.
Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup sea salt
2 tbsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon
2 tbsp honey
Method:
Mix all the ingredients well in a bowl. Apply the scrub to damp skin and rub with your fingers in a circular motion. Let dry for about eight minutes and then wash off with cold water.
Blackheads be gone
Blackheads are ugly and irritating. In essence, they occur when your skin is clogged with excess sebum or hair follicles. Our nifty face mask hydrates your skin, removes oils and impurities, and reduces pores. Cinnamon is a natural healer and improves blood circulation to make your skin look supple and radiant. “Honey acts as a natural adhesive that pulls out impurities from the pores. It also has antibacterial properties that keep germs at bay,” says Dr Bhardwaj. If you have oily skin, you are likely to have blackheads on your nose and it is important to keep the area clean.
Ingredients:
2 tbsp cinnamon powder
2 tbsp mashed raw papaya
2 tbsp honey
Method:
Mix ingredients into a paste and apply a layer on the affected areas. Put a small strip of clean cloth on this paste, sticking it properly. Let the paste dry, and then yank off the strip. Rinse your face with warm water and moisturise. Repeat 2-3 times a week to witness significant reduction in blackheads. You can also use some warm water before you apply the paste so that the skin loosens and your pores open up.
Goodbye wrinkles
It ain’t easy getting old... or is it? A combination of antioxidants, sloughing away dead skin, and moisturising ensures that your wrinkles are minimised and you look younger for longer. This scrub has pomegranate, an ingredient with more antioxidants than red wine, and is also rich in anti-ageing compounds like vitamin C. Oatmeal exfoliates dry skin, and honey restores moisture.
Ingredients:
1 cup oatmeal
2 tbsp pomegranate seeds
2 tbsp buttermilk
2 tbsp honey
Method:
Coarsely blend oatmeal and pomegranate in a food processor. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, and mix in buttermilk and honey. Apply the scrub on your face, let it dry and wash off with warm water. When applying scrubs on the face, it is best to do so in circular motions so that it does not feel too harsh on your skin and exfoliates it better.
Battle dryness
Sometimes, the problem can be just that you’re just not feeding your skin well enough. A few items from your closet will fix that immediately. This cream is non-greasy and has flexible ingredients, which means you can replace almond oil with jojoba oil and shea butter with cocoa butter. “Shea butter is a great moisturiser—the vitamin A found in it is known for its exceptional healing properties. It can improve skin conditions such as blemishes, wrinkles and eczema,” says Dr Bhardwaj. The vitamin E in coconut oil moisturises and aids in repair of worn out or dry skin. If you have extremely dry skin, you can use this pack every day as it is not a scrub and does not harm the skin if used regularly.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/8 cup shea butter
1 tbsp aloe vera juice
1 tbsp almond oil
5-10 drops lavender oil
Method:
Heat the shea butter and coconut oil till they melt. Turn off the heat and add aloe vera juice, almond oil, and essential oils and stir to combine well. Let it cool and store in a jar. Apply it every night before you go to bed so that it works on the skin when you are asleep.
Blemish-free in three
Sometimes, as Lady Macbeth found out, one damned spot can ruin everything. We’ve got your back...err face, with this mask that gently makes your skin clearer. Lemon, a citric fruit, has mild astringent properties that pushes oil out from the skin. “Lemon will also help reduce acne,” says Dr Bhardwaj. Beer is rich in vitamin B, yeast and saccharides that help dissolve dead cells. The proteins present in egg white improve the elasticity of skin and even out the tone.
Ingredients:
1 egg white
1/2 cup beer
2 tsp fresh lime juice
Method:
Beat the egg white and beer together. Add the lime juice and mix well. Apply this paste on your face. Let dry and rinse with cold water. Once the pack is applied, do not talk or make too many facial expressions until you wash it off.
Stand up to the sun
Tans might sound glamorous, but sun burns, cancer and skin damage are very real concerns. Experts recommend wearing sunscreen even indoors. Most sunscreens available in the market contain toxic ingredients. But this one is skin-friendly, effective and cheap. Many of the ingredients like almond oil, coconut oil, zinc oxide, carrot seed oil and shea butter have natural SPF. This sunscreen works for moderate exposure in the winters.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup almond oil
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup beeswax
2 tbsp zinc oxide
1 tsp carrot seed oil
2 tbsp shea butter
Method:
Mix all the ingredients except zinc oxide in a thick glass jar. Take a saucepan and fill it with water. Place the glass jar in the saucepan, with the lid on loosely, and let simmer. When the ingredients start to melt, shake the jar. After all the ingredients have melted, add the zinc oxide. Stir, remove from the stove. Let cool and pour it into a container. Apply this potion liberally on your face and any other body parts that are left exposed in the morning. Reapply every two hours for maximum benefits. However, if you are stepping out in the harsh sun, do use a regular sunscreen as this may not provide the required sun protection.
Fuel your feet
In our tropical country, dry feet are a constant problem. And given that we wear sandals and open footwear, it’s imperative that we ensure our feet look soft and nourished. This foot toner has just two ingredients and promises quick results. Alum is known to soothe irritated skin and smoothen wrinkles and fine lines. Glycerine, on the other hand, is highly moisturising, water soluble and non-toxic. It hydrates dry skin and is effective against ageing.
Ingredients:
1/3 tsp powdered alum
100g glycerine
Method:
Prepare a solution by mixing the two together. Refrigerate. Dip a cotton ball in this mix and wipe your feet with it 2-3 times a day. You will see results in a few weeks and to fasten the process, you should moisturise your feet before going to bed. This will keep them soft for longer.
Zap that acne
Using toner is a must if you have acne prone skin, travel outdoors (as dirt tends to cling to your skin) or want to cleanse off heavy sunscreen or makeup. “Antioxidant-rich green tea is known for its anti-bacterial properties. This makes it a potent weapon against acne,” says Suparna. Green tea also helps fight inflammation and thereby reduces rashes and blemishes.
Ingredients:
7 tbsp green tea powder
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
5 drops of essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus or rose
Method:
Mix all the ingredients and store in the refrigerator. Use it in the morning and before going to bed for best results.
Get back that glow!
Of all the skin issues, pigmentation is the trickiest. Even if everything else is great, dark patches can rob you of that perfect glow. This face mask has tamarind, a natural, strong bleaching agent, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) that remove pigmentation and dark patches.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup tamarind juice
1 tbsp baking powder
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup lemon juice
Method:
Mix all the ingredients to prepare a smooth paste. Apply it on body parts that look dull and dark. Rub with a loofah, then wash off with warm water.
Manage the mane
If you have frizzy hair that has a mind of its own, you probably turn to serums and lotions to make it stay in one place. We share a hair pack that can replace your chemical-laden hair products and do the same job as well.
Ingredients:
5 spoons apple cider vinegar
2 spoons olive oil
Water
Method:
Dilute apple cider vinegar with water and then add olive oil to it. Pour the liquid in a spray bottle and shake well. Now spritz it on your mane especially the strands and this will help calm down the frizz. You can even carry the liquid with in your bag and spray it whenever you feel your hair is getting frizzy again.
Get soft, silky hair
Love tresses that are soft and silky, who doesn’t right? If your hair has lost its sheen, you can fix it at home with a few natural products like honey and curd. Both will add the much-needed lustre while making the mane soft.
Ingredients:
5 spoons honey
1 cup curd
Method:
Mix both these ingredients together to make a thick paste. Now wet your hair and then apply it on the strands and even the scalp if you want. Wear a shower cap and leave it on for 15 minutes. Now wash off your hair with a mild shampoo. This will leave your hair feeling soft.

From Priyanka Chopra to Shraddha Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor to Kareena Kapoor Khan these Bollywood beauties trust home remedies to help with daily beauty care and surely they don’t disappoint.

I apply a natural face mask of honey and lemon to moisturise and de-tan my face every day and this works for me. I never go to sleep with makeup on. At night, I apply almond oil and honey to my face and massage it for five minutes before washing it off.”

If you are used to staying out in the sun and the dirt every day, a face mask is just the thing you need to clean your face. This skin care product helps in minimizing blackheads, whiteheads, oily skin, pimples and even pigmentation. Face masks are manufactured by almost all beauty and skincare brands. But they inevitably contain chemicals that can harm your skin and create more problems.
But then, there is one face mask that is chemical-free and has no chemicals as well. It is the homemade lemon and baking soda mask we are talking about.
How To Make It The lemon baking soda mask is as simple as it sounds. All you need is lemon juice and baking soda.
To make the face mask, mix one teaspoon of lemon juice with two tablespoons of baking soda. Baking soda reacts with the lemon juice and fizzes a lot. But keep mixing until you get a runny, pale yellow paste. Use this paste to rub all over your face and neck (avoid your eye). Scrub your nose and the T-zone or wherever you find oil on your face. It is normal to feel a bit of a tingle because the baking soda reaction keeps taking place. However, if you feel a burning sensation on your face, immediately wash the mixture off and don’t try it again. Also, keep this mixture on your face for no more than 15 minutes to avoid redness. Using a warm, wet washcloth, wipe the mask off your face. Using cold water, close your pores and pat your skin dry. Now moisturize your face with your favorite product. Using Lemon And Baking Soda Mask With Honey To make the face mask with honey, add one teaspoon of raw, organic honey with the same amount of baking soda and lemon juice. Honey is a really good natural anti-bacterial substance that helps in killing the bad bacteria residing in the pores of your skin. It also soothes and moisturizes your skin.

Skin Benefits Baking soda has a slightly grainy texture, which, when rubbed on your face, helps in exfoliating, and the tiny granules scrub off the outer layer of old skin cells. It prevents the build-up of dirt and oil in pores and consequently reduces the chances of breakouts. It also makes your skin tone even and glowing. Lemon juice, rich in citric acid and vitamin C, removes oil from your skin and cleanses your face. It also kills bacteria and reduces the chances of infection. Thus, together lemon and baking soda make a wonderful facial treatment that beats salon treatments any day.
Lemon Soda Mask For Blackheads Blackheads are essentially dirt that is lodged in the oily, open pores of your skin. As already mentioned, lemon removes oil, and baking soda scrubs away the dirt. Thus, this dual action helps in preventing blackheads and removing them easily. Take the face mask in your fingers, and gently and firmly rub on your nose with the tips of your fingers.
Lemon Soda Mask For Whiteheads These tiny white dots that usually appear around your nose are no less unpleasant than blackheads. Unlike blackheads, whiteheads are clumps of oil and dead skin cells.
Lemon juice helps in opening up the pores and makes it easier for the baking soda granules to scrape them away. To help open up your pores more, take a steam bath before applying the face mask.
It is also important to prevent the re-entry of dirt and dead cells in the open pores. So, wash your face with cold water or rub an ice cube across your face until it melts completely.
Did you ever know that lemon and baking soda face mask can alter the way you look? Now, you too can boast of fresh and radiant skin with this simple homemade facial mask!
