Just putting this up here:
I do not like this game. I have many issues with it and will likely post about that. All of my critical posts will be tagged with #omori critical. I won't post anything outwardly mean in the main tag, but I may still post polite critique of the game. I understand this is a game well-liked by many people and a comfort game to many people so I completely understand if you want to block me. Please understand, I will block you if you get nasty with me for disliking the game. Hope you enjoy browsing my silly blog about this game that has invaded my brain

I understand that symbolism and the way symbols are used are fluid and different based on the creator, I phrased that very poorly in my original response.
I think my hangup remains that the way hands are used does not feel internally consistent, which can work if the multiple meanings feel properly set up. The idea of hands being something to keep his conscious mind unaware of his trauma works perfectly well for the red hands. However, there are things such as the hand throne and the many blackspace hands reaching towards him, seemingly to grab him, that confuse me. They could, like you said, represent the act, but then it feels confusing to me that they would be trying to grab at him since he didn't do any grabbing and instead pushing. I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this great, but what I'm saying is that the way the hands (besides the red hands) are used doesn't feel like they do a good job of representing the idea of his method of pushing her.
I would like to clarify that I'm very aware symbolism is something that can be interpreted in different ways and that one person's interpretation may be very different than another's. I'm just struggling to fully grasp your interpretation based on how I view the story and what I know of the game.
I want to know what yall think about it so here goes: what do you think hands are supposed to represent in Omori?
We see hand imagery so frequently (whitespace, the first fears battle, multiple times in blackspace, and more I'm not remembering), it feels like it's important. However, I struggle to glean their symbolism with what we're given in the game. The closest thing I can think of is hands representing the idea of being caught, but then why would being caught by a hand return him to his safe box in whitespace? Why would being caught by a hand take him out of the scary blackspace rooms? I would love to hear yalls thoughts on this!

That's an interesting way of looking at it! I definitely get the idea of he used his hands to push her and the hands being red because he has her blood on his hands. I think my main hangup with the idea of hands representing him being responsible for her death and his method of killing her is that the hands are almost always reaching out to grab him.
Usually in the media I've seen, if hands are used as a symbol of a character's guilt, it will be the character's hands being covered in blood or distorting or something like that. Although I haven't seen this, I could also imagine hand imagery being used like this mimicking the way he killed her (like having hands shoving at him). In most media where reaching hands are used as a symbol, it's either used as a symbol of want (such as a character reaching towards the fading ghost of a loved one) or as a symbol of being hurt (such as hands representing abuse a character might've gone through). With the hands in Omori, it feels like they're always trying to grab him, to get him, something that is usually associated either with a character being afraid of being caught (which iirc isn't really something that Sunny is too caught up about) or with a character being afraid of someone hurting them (which has no basis in the canon story).
Again, I can see where you're coming from, I just think that there's a lot of things that still don't make a whole lotta sense with the hands symbolizing his role in her death.

Did some sprite recolors of Kel since it always felt weird to me that his colors were so different from his portraits
Tumblr media
The second one is color picked from the face portraits that you see with his dialogue, though some colors (like the hair) were adjusted a little to better fit the saturation of the other sprites. Third one was color picked from his family portrait for funsies

Awesome, thank you!
So apparently Sunny was the one who scribbled despite Basil taking the fall, but I can't recall when this was revealed and the Omori wiki isn't giving me any sources for that. It only says that he does it later in the game if you stay in again. Does anyone remember where in the game it was stated that Sunny scribbled on the photos the first time?
