I'm unable to restrain myself.
This almost certainly a matsuri haori, or festival coat. The Yamazaki Construction Company must have sponsored a float one year (at least) in one of Saitama's local festivals. There would have been a "float", which usually looks like a portable shinto shrine. The company would have had these coats made up and distributed to all employees who came to carry/drag the float along the "parade" route.
The night ends with everyone getting *very* drunk at the company party afterwards.
The design on the back is a character but the internal lines that would allow me to say which one have mostly rubbed off. (probably something like "strength" or "power")
In conclusion, it's not recycled, it's just probably old. (And cool)
One thing I got for the holidays was this coat that a fibercraft friend of mine left to me in her will, (she was 102 and I miss her dearly. The quilt is also from her.) which was kind of a huge surprise, and I was wondering if anyone knew what the characters on the front say, and if the thing on the back is also a character or a cool design or what?

So my sister wants to start sewing more, because
a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.
b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton
c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance
So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.
And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’
And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

TIL that the English word “Lord” in the sense of the head of an estate comes from an Old English word of Germanic origins, hlāfweard, later hlāford, later lord.
Normally I wouldn’t remark on my romps through etymology, but “hlafweard” is a compound of hlaf, or loaf, and weard, which means guardian (see also Ward or Warden, etc). Meaning that when you call someone a lord you are calling him an esteemed keeper of the bread.
HEY THERE BREADBOX PETER WIMSEY. LOAF GUARD PALPATINE. BREAD CLIP VETINARI.
Lady also derives from hlaf, but in this case hlafdige or bread kneader. She makes the bread, he monitors it. Women have to do all the work as usual.
Now, the reason I was looking this up was that I wanted to develop a gender-neutral analogue to lord/lady; there are analogues already out there naturally, but the Shivadh must be different and anyway I didn’t like the ones I’d seen suggested online.
Given that the origins of Lord and Lady aren’t all that strongly gendered anyway (they’re about what the person does, not what their gender is), I decided that if a woman is a bread-kneader and a man is a bread-guarder, a nonbinary person should be A BREAD EATER, which would be Hlafetan.
Thus I present to you the gender-neutral analogue to Lord or Lady: Ledan.

Hi Gallus, saw the post about the Caesar cartoon/Shakespeare voice actor. Pretty sure it's Adam Long, who was one of the three guys who did the Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) which is a very silly play. He played the ladies and fake puked a bunch. I didn't know he did cartoon voice acting too!! The whole performance is on youtube if you want a good chuckle.
I FUCKING KNEW IT!! If you have 90 minutes and want to watch 3 extremely funny guys massacre Shakespeare, please enjoy:
