Don't Pour That Down The Drain!
Many of us think that if it can get past the strainer than it is okay to be poured or flushed down drain. Unfortunately that is not the case. There are many solids and liquids we need to keep out of our plumbing. Certain substances can build up overtime causing clogs, corrosion, sewer overflow, and even contaminate our water supply. Below is a list complied of some of the obvious and not so obvious items that should be disposed of somewhere other than your drain.
· Grease (One of the most common to be disposed of down the drain, but one of the most harmful to your plumbing.)
· Butter, Margarine, Lard, Shortening
· Food Particles
· Coffee Grounds
· Stickers off produce items
· Paper Towels
· Personal Hygiene Products
· Paint/Paint Thinner
· Nail Polish
· Acidic or Corrosive Chemicals/Solutions
· Fats and Oils
· Meats
· Bones
· Dairy Products (milk, cheese, cream)
· Egg Shells
· Sauces, Salad Dressings, Condiments
Keeping the items above out of your kitchen sink (and toilet) will keep your plumbing in optimal condition and prevent you from having to face repair costs.

Doing Your Own Plumbing Inspection
Are you in the market for a new house? Or, did you just recently become a new homeowner? We are here to help you with some simple things to look for to prevent you from encountering unexpected and unwanted costs.
-Be on the look out for any signs of water damage. Inquire about patched walls, water stains, and peeling of paint or wallpaper.
-Push up the ceiling tiles to make sure the ceiling isn’t hiding an unpleasant surprise.
-Flush the toilets and run the faucets to observe any signs of clogged drains and poor pressure.
-Test the shower’s water pressure and observe for any corrosion on the showerhead.
-Observe any exposed pipes for insulation, leaks, and corrosion.
-Any signs of mold or mildew can indicate water leaks.
-Buckling or cracking floor can indicate a leaking pipe hidden underneath the flooring.
-Check the water heater for service date, leaks, and corrosion.
-The smell of the house may indicate plumbing problems too. An earthy or musty smell can be the result of water issues.
Make sure you have a thorough inspection of the house with a second opinion to prevent you from being blindsided by any household plumbing issues.

Stop Wasting Money Down The Drain!
Happy 2013!
We hope you all enjoyed the holiday season and are ready to put your best foot forward into the New Year. After a busy past two weeks of traveling to visit family and hosting a holiday party of mine own, I am confident in saying “it’s good to be settled back into my normal routine.” Between all the hustle and bustle these past 2 weeks brought us, we were still working away on completing various projects and making progress on others. However, instead of talking about a site update (and since a lot of your new year’s resolutions might consist of financial savings), I’d like to share with you some money saving tips to conserve water in your day-to-day lives.
· Replace an old inefficient faucet with a new one (a leaky faucet can waste gallons of water a day)
· Update your toilet (newer toilet models-mid 90’s or newer-use less water per flush than old out-dated ones)
· Change over to low-flow/water efficient showerheads (still provides the same great water pressure but cuts done on the gallons of water used)
· Only run your washing machine when you have a full load
· Only run your dishwasher when you have a full load
· Make sure your lawn sprinklers water your grass and not the driveway or sidewalk
· Observe your water meter (this can help pin-point high usage periods as well as check for any “hidden” leaks)
· Fix leaky outside faucets
· Clean showerheads to remove mineral deposits
· Don’t leave the water running while brushing your teeth (Parents you tell your kids this but face it, adults are just as guilty of this one! Simply turning off the water while brushing can save 3-5 gallons each time...depending on how good of a brusher your are.)
· Keep your water heater set at 120°F or below
· Turn your water off before leaving for vacation or a long weekend (coming home to find an unexpected flood does not make a good end to your vacation-unfortunately my sister experienced this one the hard way...TWICE!)
By using just a few of these simple tips will cut down tremendously on your everyday water usage and decrease that dreaded water bill too!

Happy Holidays
Happy Holidays!
We are sorry for the late post, but we took some time off to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. We hope this holiday season has brought much happiness and joy to you and your family and that you celebrated surrounded by those you love.
Last week we continued to make headway on our largest project of 2012. The Hialeah Flamingo Casino broke ground last fall, and since then we have made great progress in the drain lines and plumbing work for the property. This past week we worked on various projects within the casino including the sanitary waste piping and grease waste piping. We also worked on the installation of drain lines and the underground plumbing for the casino bar. Check out the photos below for a look at our work in progress.
With the year coming to a close we at Seaway Plumbing, Inc would like to wish you much health, happiness, and prosperity in 2013. We are looking forward to exciting work in the year ahead and cannot wait to continue to share with you our project news and updates.

A Busy 2012
Since the start of Seaway Plumbing, Inc. back in 2002 it has grown from a bold idea to a flourishing and prominent company of Southern Florida. Although, we have entered the world of blogging before, we are reestablishing ourselves in the social media spotlight. We are committed to keeping our readers and supporters up to date on what is happening at Seaway and letting you get to know us on a more personal level.
This year we marked 10 years of providing excellence to our customers and our community. Throughout those years of operation, we have provided service for everyday plumbing needs as well as completed substantial projects. In our 10th year we have worked on numerous large projects. Among those completed were Sunshine Towers of Miami Beach, Miami Jai Alai Casino, and Miami-Dade Public Schools. We are currently in the process of completing work on DCK housing, housing of the Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay, as well as the Hialeah Flamingo Casino. The Hialeah Flamingo Casino has been our biggest project of 2012. After the completion of the casino project, we will have installed extensive plumbing work ranging from sanitary waste piping to grease waste piping.
Please check back next Monday to see what we have been working on this week. There is always something new happening at Seaway Plumbing and we want to keep you in the loop!
We want to extend our thoughts and prayers to those victimized by the tragedy in Newtown, CT. Our hearts are heavy for the families, faculty, and community of Sandy Hook Elementary. We send prayers of peace and may the memories of those lives lost live for eternity.
