“You own like, a laundromat or something?” Oscar asks, grabbing the handheld scanner. The guy looks up, the same look of confusion as yesterday. He’s got a little crease between his eyebrows. “Hm?” “Just- the dryer sheets again.” He shakes the box for emphasis before handing it back to him. “Again?” Oscar sighs. “Yes, again.” “I… don’t get it.” The guy lets out a nervous laugh, looking at Oscar to explain the joke he’s been left out on. Oscar’s going to claw his eyes out. “You bought dryer sheets in here yesterday.” The guy looks at him, bewildered and wide-eyed. “I- sorry. No. That wasn’t me, sorry.” And. Yes, it was. Yes, it was this guy with the fluffy Disney prince hair and the big nose and the deep brown eyes who smells like Narnia. It could not have been anyone else. Oscar doesn’t appreciate being gaslit about this. . . . Or: Carlos develops anterograde amnesia and Oscar’s the checkout clerk who sells him his dryer sheets every day.
