Cephalopod lovers: What’s the world’s largest octopus? Capable of growing more than 16 ft (4.9 m) long and weighing in at over 100 lbs (45 kg), that would be the giant Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini)! More than 2,000 suction cups cover its eight arms, providing it with a powerful grip that makes it hard for prey like crabs, and sometimes even small sharks, to escape its clutches.

I saw something I’ve been wanting to see my whole life. This dodo. Ever since I saw the Wild Kratts there, I’ve needed to go. And today, I finally went. As soon as I entered the museum, I dragged my dad straight there. I tried to hold back my tears, but I failed. I will never forget this

Cephalopod lovers, meet a squid that’s as cute as its name: the dumpling squid (Euprymna tasmanica)! Also known as the southern bobtail squid, this cephalopod inhabits shallow waters off the coast of southern Australia. It’s an ambush predator and uses mucus glands in its skin to coat itself in sand, where it then lies in wait for prey, like shrimp and small fish. Dumplings must learn to hunt fast: Because males of this species die shortly after mating and females die soon after laying eggs, newborn squid need to fend for themselves. These precocious hatchlings can snag prey twice their size!
