I just know that they deleted this part only because they (probably NBC, actually) were afraid what it would suggest, given the fact that Abigail hallucinates her mom in Alana’s place and according to the deleted part it was supossed to be Will’s place.

I love how gentle Hannibal is when he touches Will. He never shies away from closeness with him, in fact, he searches for "intimacy" however subtle or minimal it may be.

With others (ie. Bedelia, Alana) intimacy and touch is a means for Hannibal to gain control or protect himself. In these cases, intimacy is self-serving in a strictly practical sense.

It's different with Will. With him, Hannibal seeks closeness and touch because he knows Will needs it and that he very rarely, if ever, allows himself the comfort of intimacy. Hannibal wants to be the one to give him that comfort. He doesn't like the idea of others touching his "cunning boy". Hannibal actively sabotages Will's prospects (ie. Alana, Molly), he doesn't even try to see beyond his own yearning. Hannibal and Will see each other in a way that others cannot, so intimacy with others becomes shallow and empty. Both of them are unable to give in to the longing they feel for the other for their own respective reasons. It's only on the brink of death that they truly surrender to their love for each other.
