“is this the part where i realize that i’m lucky for not having any siblings? because if it is, then your method is definitely working. i can’t say that i know what it’s like and at this point, i’m quite glad that i don’t,” but it’s a lie, one that she easily masks as arrogance. “besides, mommy bloggers are the worst, i almost fell asleep just by listening to you talk about her.  yet i’m pretty sure that age has nothing to do with that. if you’re boring, you’re just boring. it doesn’t matter if you’re eighteen or forty-eight years old.”  

“you are, completely. so fuckin’ lucky! i have three of them. you can have them all if you want.” serena laughed, only half-joking. she loved them, sure, mostly out of obligation, but they kind of sucked too so. she shrugged then, “i don’t know, an eighteen-year-old mommy blogger might be kinda interesting- like a teen mom sitch? i might actually read. but, yeah, no, my sister’s always been boring. i, simply, cannot relate. imagine being boring.” laugh nearly a cackle.

“the first and only thing she had to say to you was an ill-informed critique of your outfit? she sounds like the life of the party,” they scoffed, tapping at the edge of the drink they’re holding. “oh is she one of those ones who is like look at this picture of a literal shit my kid took, let me tell you why it’s this colour? i sincerely can’t imagine i’ll be like that in only a few years, or ever for that matter.”

serena took a sip of her own drink, rolling her eyes at the mere thought of her sister’s idiocy and nodding in agreement at cyrus’s statement. she groaned, “yeah, literally like that. shit that no on wants to know... i don’t think i’ll ever be like that either,” she replied, giving them a lopsided grin, “especially the blogging part. imagine thinking your kid is that interesting. babies aren’t interesting. even if they’re cute.”

“No offence, but you’re pressed over shirt critique and she’s got, like, a family? I think she might be winning at life,” Eli said with a shrug, lighting his cigarette absently as he spoke. Voice muffled around the smoke, he continued. “Whatever. As the saying goes: ‘You know who the fuck you are’, or something else equally overused.”

Serena narrowed her eyes slightly, lips pursing, “Again, not a shirt. And winning how? Having a family sounds boring and also like the kind of work that I don’t wanna do.” Being a parent sounded horrible and like the opposite of winning. She plucked his cigarette from his lips and took a drag with a cheeky, almost triumphant smile before holding it back out to him as she joked, deadpan, “Those cliche, overused phrases really fit you, you should say them more often.”

“my sister texted me for the first time in, like, two and a half months yesterday just to tell me that she hated my shirt in my latest instagram post. and like... first of all, it’s a bodysuit, and second, she’s practically a mommy blogger now. and i can’t think of anything worse, so don’t come for my content when i had to read about your kid’s baby food regimen yesterday.” she shrugged, studying her cuticles, “people over the age of, like, twenty-eight are boring anyway. so, i win.”

T-shirt peeled off ages ago in an attempt to clean the stain off it, it was obvious that whatever the jungle juice inside had consisted of stained well, and deep. It managed to also coat the white tank top he still adorned, but did nothing to stop the childish excitement on his face, stumbling onto the back patio of the party once he noted that someone was out there, “Got a party trick,” Biting roughly onto his bottom lip to hide a grin that would’ve bordered on insane, Leo waved a smoke bomb in the face of the person he found, “I watched a YouTube video on how to set these things off all at once, make it kinda explode - like, a literal smoke bomb. The video made it seem super cool. Begone, succubus!” Final exclamation unnecessary, Leo merely shouted it to set the tone, arm rearing back before smashing the plastic onto the patio. He’d expected it to crack open, for a plume of smoke to gracefully rise in quick succession - what he got was plastic ricocheting around them dangerously, colourful smoke rocketing up and into his face far more aggressively than he’d prepared for. Doubling over, Leo spent a few moments coughing dramatically before shouting over at his company, “Jesus, shit, fuck - it’s choking me from the inside out! It’s in my lungs! We’re done for - that wasn’t supposed to happen, YouTube did not give me any warning of that whatsoever. You alive over there?” @radopens​

Perched on the patio railing, half-smoked cigarette perched between two fingers in her left hand, empty red cup sitting beside her, Serena looked up at the sound of Leo’s voice. She quirked an eyebrow, “Like you’re double-jointed or something?” But that theory was quickly put out as the smoke bomb was thrust toward her, “More like a party favor.” Her tone was even, a bored look on her face. Though, the reason she had been out there in the first place was boredom, so, maybe this would at least be a little more interesting. She hopped down from the railing, smudging the cigarette out on the ledge as Leo reeled back to throw the thing. Her reluctant interest instantly gave way for a nasty cough and a flare of rage. Serena staggered toward the other, “What the fuck?!” She hacked, closing her eyes to prevent the smoke from getting in them, “What if I had had asthma?! I mean, like, I don’t, but still! You could’ve killed me!” She shouted- a tad dramatic, as always- as she attempted to wave the smoke away, “Holy fuck!”
