A laugh escaped and Scotty raised his eyebrows at her "Now I want to know what else is on that bucket list. I don't think I've made a bucket list since College and that was years and years ago." Scotty laughed again, making a small joke about his age. The man took a deep breath and then nursed his beer in his hands, Scotty wanted to know why getting arrested seemed and sounded so interesting to the brunette. He wondered if she had a wild side that no one knew about. Nodding his head, Scotty let out a sigh and then opened his mouth to speak "I don't really like to talk about it. I mean, when my wife passed ----" Stopping himself, Scotty took a gulp of his beer and let the alcohol burn down his throat "I got into a really dark place. Got fucked up for a bit. Caused some mayhem. Department back in Brooklyn wasn't happy about it. They did everything in their power to try and take my gun and badge. Said I had a mental breakdown. Most of it is true I guess. The whole mental breakdown thing. " Shrugging his shoulders, Scotty swallowed hard and then shook his head, letting out a nervous laugh "Sorry. Didn't mean to get serious for a minute." Finishing his beer, a soft smile appeared on his face. He watched as she positioned herself and the man couldn't help but stare. He had no idea why the hell Scotty felt safe enough to talk to Armi about Alyssa. Swallowing a lump that formed in his throat, he smiled and nodded as she took the shot "See! You did good." Scotty exclaimed and then looked at her "Listen. We can uh, we can finish this game of Pool or we can get out of here?" Scotty had no idea what the fuck he was doing, but here goes nothing.
"Maybe not, but you'd probably choke to see the other items on said bucket list." She commented, "Getting arrested might be one of the more milder ones." Add in the fact that she had a fantasy or two featuring such scenarios, and well -- it was over. But she thought better then to tell Wilmington's police chief that. "You've been to jail?" She questioned, her brows furrowed at the thought, "For real?" Not that it was completely far fetched, but -- okay, maybe it was kinda far fetched. At least, in her mind. She smirked as he made a second hit, before then passing the over to her. She shook her head at the term he used for her, not hating it. Not even a little bit. He was a good looking man, himself. She went up, and position herself to make her shot. Usually good at pool, tonight she seemed to be fumbling as she missed. Straightening up, she groaned, "Okay -- I might be a little rusty. Do not judge me."

A soft smile appeared on his lips with Olivia's comment. He let out a laugh and then nodded his head "That I do." Shrugging his shoulders, the man took a deep breath and continued to look at the menu that was above him. Then laughed again at Olivia's comment and Scotty opened his mouth to speak "Listen, I can't make any promises. It's been a bit fuckin crazy lately. At least with Homicide. So much crazy shit has been happening so I can't make any promises Liv." Scotty said honestly, but then sighed "I need an extra large coffee also, I'm fucking exhausted."
"You really know how to woo a girl, y'know that, Scotty?" There was a teasing lilt to her voice. She'd seen herself in the mirror, she knew it was bad. "If you can even call it sleep. Whatever the largest drink with the most caffeine is. Because holy cow am I going to need it. Please tell the department not to do anything stupid today because I have the ER shift and if I see any of them in there I'm going to give them hell."

Scotty couldn't stop thinking about the accident. Which one though? The one where the teenager got bit by a shark? Or the one where he lost both his wife and fourteen month old daughter? His mind felt like a jigsaw puzzle these days, trying to put the pieces together. Trying to keep their memories alive. He felt like they were slipping away. He felt like if he worked overtime, and kept himself busy then Scotty wouldn't spiral. Though clearly, clearly that wasn't the case. He was spiraling, again. This wouldn't be the first time within ten years he felt like he was loosing his god damn mind. Ten years? How the fuck has it been ten years since the day his World ripped out from under him? Scotty questioned himself and heard the loud music banging from the speaker. He was getting a migraine and the man wasn't in the fuckin mood for this. Maybe he should just go home and sleep, Scotty thought to himself as he started to rub his temples. The Chief Of Police decided to stay put.
Scotty wanted to know why. That's all he wanted to know. Why? Why did bad things happen to good people? Alyssa Conway was perfect. She was an angel sent from above, and now an actual one. Alyssa, the first women he's ever fallen in love with. The only women he's only fallen deeply and madly in love with. God he missed her, he missed his best friend, his wife. The mother of his child. And Violet. His precious little girl. That smile, that smile and giggle lit up the whole World when his went dark. The pain and anguish he felt daily consumed him sometimes. The thought of going home alone for the past ten years killed him. It should've been him. It should've been him instead of them.
"Well ya fuckin did." Scotty snapped at the stranger, he down the glass of Whiskey and asked the bar tender for another. Whiskey was his poison. Alcohol was poison. He should know. His parents were sober for an x amount of years because of the issues it had caused. Though how would he grieve without alcohol? As soon as the bar tender handed Scotty his third glass of Whiskey, the Chief of Police shook his head and scoffed "You fuckin got somethin to say to me? Stop fuckin lookin at me man." Now Scotty was acting out, now Scotty was being an idiot.
This stranger wasn't doing a god damn thing. Nothing at all, Scotty was just a mean drunk and he hated it. The forty-eight year old looked down at his phone, the photo of Violet sleeping tearing him apart and Scotty finally let out a bitter laugh. "What the fuck did you just say to me?" Scotty spat, turning to face him now. "We all got our ghosts? Is that some kind of a fuckin sick joke?" Scotty shook his head "Dont you dare fucking say weve all got our ghosts. You dont fucking know anything." He let out a breath, his words beginning to slur and the room beginning to spin.
Scotty felt like the room was caving in on him, it was hot and it was spinning and the man felt like he was going to be sick. "Tryin to keep your own peace? Youre the one that fuckin said we all have our ghosts. Is that all you got or you got more to fuckin say?" Scotty didn't realize it, but he as now standing face to face with the stranger.
The bar was alive with the kind of noise that fills every corner, pressing in with the laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the thumping bass of music that makes it hard to think. It was the kind of environment that used to serve as camouflage for Robby, a place to blend into the background. Tonight, however, it felt oppressive, reminding him how far he'd come and yet how close he remained to the person he used to be.
Robby recognized Scotty immediately, even before the confrontation. He'd researched his picture at the time, he'd followed him, he'd planned his death. And things had gone sideways and two innocents died in the aftermath instead. Robby never forgot his face. The tension in Scotty’s shoulders, the way he clutched his drink like a lifeline, it all spoke volumes. Robby had his reasons for being there, partly to reintegrate, to find some path back into the world he left behind, but seeing Scotty like this—it struck a chord. His grief, raw and unfiltered, mirrored back parts of Robby’s own past he’d rather forget.
When Scotty snapped, his voice raw with pain and anger, Robby felt that too. The urge to drown out memories with something, anything, that could numb the pain. Robby had been there, in that darkness, fighting invisible demons that cling like shadows. "I wasn’t looking to disturb you, Chief," Robby said, keeping his voice low, an attempt to not escalate things further. His gaze briefly flicked to the screen of Scotty's phone, the image of his family there—a punch to the gut reminding Robby of the consequences of his past actions, ones Scotty was unaware he was connected to.
"I’m not here to make your night harder," Robby continued, signaling the bartender for another drink. "Just trying to find my own peace, same as you. We all got our ghosts, don’t we?" he said, a rhetorical question, hanging heavy between the buzz of conversation and the music.
Turning slightly to give Scotty space, Robby took a sip of his own drink as it was served, the burn a familiar sensation, less about escape now and more about reflection. Maybe tonight wasn't the night for introductions or revelations—if there ever was a night for that in these situations. Maybe it was just about sharing a silent understanding with someone else haunted by their past, even if Scotty didn’t know the full story. Not yet. But soon, because some truths had a way of surfacing when you least expect them to.

Scotty nodded his head in agreement, the sound of the ocean hitting against the floor calmed him when he couldn't sleep. He'd stand outside at night on his porch and just breathe in the salt air. "I agree. When I was livin in Brooklyn my view was street lights, and now it's the ocean. Funny how things can change." Scotty said honestly and then rubbed his chin, picking up a booklet of paint colors from the counter "I'm thinkin of doin it green, maybe? What color do you think?" Scotty asked for the kids opinion, he seemed like he knew what he was doing, Scotty always trusted Kian. Nodding his head in agreement, Scotty continued with "Exactly. I took woodshop as a kid during highschool and it was actually useful." He winced when he realized how long ago High School felt for him. Finally landing on a color, Scotty smiled to himself softly and thought that Alyssa would've wanted plain white. Starring down at the color for a moment, he took a deep breath and Scotty smiled again "Your dad would be proud if you decided to teach young kids all the lessons he taught you." Clearing is throat, Scotty bit his lips and then said "I think a crisp white will do." The man shook his head and opened his mouth to speak "Nah, just took it all four years of High School. Became a hobby during college and afterwards."
He nodded as Scotty explained his project, a rocking chair for his front porch with an ocean view—a smile on his face. "That sounds like a perfect spot to relax and take in the scenery." Kian appreciated Scotty's suggestion about offering a woodworking class for local teens. The idea of offering a woodworking class never crossed his mind, but maybe it would help some of the more wayward teens. Though he doubt that was going to happen. “That's a great idea.A woodworking class could be a fun way to teach them some useful skills and keep them out of trouble," he said, his eyes lighting up at the prospect. "I might just take you up on that suggestion. It could be a good way to honor my dad's legacy too, passing on what he taught me." He paused, thinking about how much his dad would love that. "What got you into woodworking in the first place? Did you learn from someone special, too?"

Scotty had no idea on why he was acting like this, well he did, but the man didn't want to admit it. Not here, not in public. He didn't want to make himself sound or seem like an idiot more than he already has. Finally loosening his grip on the album, Scotty tried to relax for a moment. The Chief Of Police nodded his head in agreement "It's on this album---" Stopping himself for a minute, Scotty swallowed a lump that formed in his throat "'Blowin In The Wind' is a good one." He handed her the album and smiled softly "Tell him I said happy birthday."
Judging by how the man was gripping the album as if it was his lifeline, she knew she wasn’t going to be able to make him change his mind. Hazal wondered if he thought she might try to take it from him. The idea seemed absurd to her, but she could understand. If she was in his shoes, she would cling to it too. "Forever Young is a beautiful song. It's one of those timeless classics that never fails to move me," she said with a smile. "For me, 'Blowin' in the Wind' has always held a special place in my heart. My dad used to play it on repeat when I was a kid. But this is not about me. I just want to get him something special for his birthday. I suppose, I will just have to look for something online.” When in doubt, try guilt tripping…

His heart was beating out of his chest, lost forever? The only thing he had left of his deceased wife? The thought made him queasy. Scotty felt the color leave his face and as the cool air hit him, Scotty sucked in a breath "Well thank you, again." Clearing his throat, the Chief of Police looked at the younger man for a second but then answered "Yeah. It's special, a family thing. Usually have it around my neck but the chain is getting fixed." Scotty said half honestly. It was true, the chain was getting fixed as they spoke, but Scotty chewed the inside of his cheeks and started to get lost within his thoughts. The engagement ring was truly one of the only things he had left of Alyssa. Taking a deep breath, he nodded in response to Axel "I actually live just down there." Scotty said, pointing in the opposite direction, he continued with "I usually come onto the beach before work, for a walk or a run to clear my head."
He smiled at the man, shaking the offered hand. "Axel Hughes. It's a pleasure to meet you, Scotty. And no worries, I'm just glad I was able to catch up to you before it was lost forever." He noticed the man's surprised expression and an eyebrow rose curiously. In that moment. "I take it that ring holds some sentimental value?" As his eyes drifted to the shimmering band, sadness tugged at his own heart as memories of his parents flooded his mind. They were once happy too, before everything fell apart. Pushing aside the melancholic thoughts, he refocused on the present interaction. "Wrightsville Beach is a lovely spot, isn't it? I’m lucky to live here and when I’m not busy during the day I come here, trying to soak in the sea air and escape the chaos of daily life. The sound of the waves calms my soul. Do you visit here frequently?"

Scotty has been within this profession for such a long time, he knew that the retirement age was soon but did he want to retire? No. Well, maybe. He loved being a cop, loved cracking and solving cases day in and day out. The man was getting old, he was getting old and tired and in all honesty, Scotty wasn't sure how much longer he should do this. He watches Julian stiffen up, the Chief realized the kid was nervous around him and a small smirk appeared on his face. He wondered if Julian was guilty of something. Hearing Julian ask him why becoming a professional baseball player didn't work out, Scotty furrowed his brows and took a moment to himself to think. There was never really a reason on why that dream didn't peruse. "I honestly have no idea. It just wasn't in the cars I guess." Scotty let out a laugh and then nodded his head "Baseball and Basketball were my sports, mainly baseball. What about you? Did you do any sports as a kid?"
he's always been skittish around cops from the day his mother had caught him selling weed. he was so sure then that she'd turn him in to the police, but instead, he got four years of boarding school in fucking georgia, which was a sentence enough in itself, though he's not sure it was befitting for his crime. not to mention, the things he hears in the news are enough to rattle anybody, guilty of misdemeanors or not, around somebody like chief sanchez, who seems pleasant enough for a man in his position, but julian straightens his shoulders and squares his jaw anyway, remembers to keep the little baggie in his inner jacket pocket secure, and is mindful not to smile too much or make any of the crass comments he's so used to. it's the riverside boy in him, he thinks. fucking georgia. "well, what happened, then? how come baseball didn't work out? you look like you have the build for it." stop sizing up the cop, julian. "uh, respectfully, sir."

He watched as Sierra held the necklace with care and placed it in the safe. He was grateful for Sierra and grateful that she was keeping it for him whenever he was on the field. Ever since loosing his wife, it was always a fear of his he'd loose the only thing he has left of her. "Thank you." Was all Scotty could say and he took a deep breath, then ran a hand through his hair.
The man shook his head as he listened to her talk about the amount of paperwork they have to do and he opened his mouth to speak "That's just ridiculous. Firefighters should not have to have so much shit to do after almost risking their lives in such a dangerous way but it makes sense I guess."
The cool air hit his face and Scotty rubbed his chin, waiting for her to follow. "Tric it is then." Scotty said honestly, and then let out a laugh "Fine fine, we'll get drunk and then hit the strip club. It's been a while since I've been your wingman, or is it still wingwomen?" He questioned and then pulled out his phone for a taxi. "Yeah hi, we need a taxi to Tric please. Were at Wilmington Fire Station."
Sierra carefully took the necklace from Scotty, feeling its weight in her palm, a tangible reminder of the depth of his loss. "It'll be right here when you're ready for it," she said quietly, placing it securely in her desk locked drawer. Standing, she followed him towards the door, ready to shake off the heaviness of their earlier conversation with a lighter, more irreverent evening.
She laughed softly at his confusion over firefighter paperwork. "You'd be surprised, Scotty. Reports, incident logs, safety checks... bureaucracy loves a paper trail, even through the smoke," she quipped, her tone dry. As they stepped out into the evening air, she considered his options, the prospect of distraction appealing after the day's emotional undertows.
"Let's hit Tric first, see where the night takes us," Sierra suggested with a smirk, her mood visibly lightening. "You're going to have to get me drunk first before the strip club," she glanced at him with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Her stride was confident, matching the newfound resolve in her voice, as they headed towards a night of unwinding and much-needed laughter.

Scotty knew that most of his squad weren't exactly drinkers. He wasn't either, but that all changed ten years ago when his World came crashing down and he drank to fill the void. Alcohol was never a good idea, but it was a shitty case that was finally wrapped up and the man wanted to celebrate. He had a hard working team and they deserved to have a little bit of fun. They were all young, good looking and were defiantly able to handle their liquor better than him. Scotty raised his eyebrows at the kid and he let out a laugh "Maybe I am." Nodding to the bar tender, the older man gave Scotty two more shots. He was on his second. "You know, we've all had a long and shitty week. This case was rough and we need to be able to let loose every once in a while. Take a shot kid." Scotty said handing him the glass, and he downed his second.
While Zeke drank, he didn't exactly -- drink. He was usually found to be nursing whatever drink he had, unless a truly bad day. In which case, he'd shoot them back like water. But he had learn a lot time ago, that being sloppy drunk was bad all around for him. He could keep himself intact and far more level headed when he took his time. But listening to Scotty only caused the male to shift in his seat. "Are you challenging me, chief?" He asked, arching a brow at the man. "It sounds like you wanna test that little theory out." He shrugged at the question aimed at him, "Figured I'd give a change of pace." Sure, he could go with that. "I can be full of surprises." Many of them.

Scotty let out a laugh but then nodded his head in agreement "You do, I will give you that. Plus, you also look like fuckin hell. I mean youre gorgeous all around but you look like youve been hit by a ton of bricks. Didn't sleep either?" Scotty questioned, raising his eyebrows and took a breath "What kind of coffee are you getting? Anything fancy?" Scotty stood in the line with her and watched it move "Oh? You're buyin? I appreciate you Liv, I do."
"Y'see? Sometimes I do have good ideas." The idea for coffee had been a very late one, but she had barely slept and she was going to get coffee anyway because the half days she didn't sleep always seemed to drag on forever and ever. Bonus was she hadn't seen Scotty in what seemed like forever. Wins all around. "Now because I proposed said idea, and I think it's my turn anyway, I'm buying."
