When he said that, I was beyond thrilled. I was elated.

.

Bob Petersen, of Eazell Petersen Ad agency, gave me a shot.

.

My resume was a disaster. .

Owner of a T-shirt company, Sun glasses company, import export business, financial services, 900 number, and lastly a mining and transportation company, Bob saw something in me and gave me a shot.

.

I tore into the job like my hair was on fire.

.

First one in, last one to leave, pacing my little office, headset on, making call after call, in a frenzied pace to make my numbers in the first 90 days.

.

“Sell something in 90 days,” he said. “Or you’re fired.”

.

I sold something in 90 days.

.

And so, I got my start in advertising and marketing.

.

I developed friendships I still have today.

.

One twist of fate, one decision, one friendship, one interview can change the course of our lives.

.

And now, 20 years later, we have lunch and reminisce.

.

I still remember sitting down for the first time with Bob.

.

I admired his energy, his ambition, his entrepreneurship.

.

Still do.

.

So as we start the this day, this weekend, this next week, it will be good to know (or remember) that one decision, one meeting, one chance encounter could change everything.

Leading us in a brand new and exiting direction.

Obsessively specialize. You can’t be all things to all people.

Think of the 80/20 rule, the book “the one thing”, “4-hour work week”, Napoleon Hill’s “Definite Chief Aim.”

It’s all based on the same premise.

Focus. Specialize. Narrow the focus and go for it.

The hardest part is sometimes just choosing, right?

What will you focus on this year? Specialize in? What’s your one thing?

Will you fall prey to the path of the dabbler? The stressed? That is, dabble in a bunch of things, not get results and give up? Or will you go out, take massive action on too many fronts, stress out, burn out and give up?

Remember, the laser beam has tremendous power because it is focused light.

Sometimes the most difficult thing to do in the morning is to work out really hard and still not wake up the kids.

What a bunch of little givers. So, my amazing kids decided to make a list and found box and leave it in the park. Think of it. They found some toys and thought there might be some kids missing these toys. So, they raced home. Grabbed a box. Threw the toys in there. Made a lost and found sign. Then, hung posters around the neighborhood letting kids know their lost toys may have been found and where to find them. I love these kids.
