a friend just tipped me off about Fund a Kitchen in Gaza, a free tool that helps you locate and donate to community kitchens currently serving some of Gaza's most vulnerable!
this lets you choose a region (south, central, north) and see which kitchens operate in that area, then donate to as many as you can.
as a reminder, community kitchens try to buy and cook in bulk, which makes ingredients last longer & sustain more people in the conditions of extreme scarcity that Israel is imposing right now. they are also able to serve people on the ground who may not have the means to reach out online.
so, whether through this tool or not, please do support community kitchens, as well as mutual aid groups that cover additional needs, such as the Sameer Project (meals, tents, cash aid, medical aid) and Dahnoun Mutual Aid (meals, tents, baby supplies, cash aid, winter clothes).

btw the palestinian children’s relief fund is currently running a fundraiser & is more than halfway to their goal of $10,000 !
here’s a link for anyone who is willing & able to donate, please share so it can reach more people, especially as the weather grows colder & these children are desperately lacking resources.
(at $5,314 / $10,000 as of December 1)

it’s looking like the iof have officially breached rafah. every palestinian i follow, most of whom have now been displaced to rafah, are posting that there’s non-stop bombing and sounds of clashes between the resistance and the israeli army (x, x, x). the rnn telegram is also reporting that armed clashes are taking place in northwest of the city and israeli bombing is concentrated around al-kuwaiti hospital (x, x). many martyrs already (x, x, x). in palestine, the time is currently just past 2am on 12th february 2024.

its frightening to think that although you may be hearing of them less, the scale of death in gaza has remained unrelenting, unceasing. im scared and saddened at how it has almost become gauche to list the ways in which palestinians are dying, that at some point everyone came to a collective fatigue of posting and seeing dead bodies and stopped sharing them, even though the images are still coming out daily, but it's almost as though no one knows what to do with them anymore.
things i've seen today, january 3rd 2024:
a child in gaza city running from snipers praying under his breath as he passes a road full of corpses, including children
two journalists running through a different road as people lie dying around them. they both stop to ask the dying men (one very elderly) to say their last prayers, but they are too far gone
a girl crushed underneath the rubble in the refugee camp of jabaliya, her ponytail swinging down
a father and his small daughter both killed by a sniper shot to the head lying on a road
some of these people were killed today. some were killed earlier, in the north, but have only just been shared due to communication blackouts. israel's genocide of palestinians continues.

some of you don’t like learning and working through complex issues you like the prestige of academia and i think it shows with the godforsaken discourse happening on this website rn. no one is saying “learning bad” when they say they’re not overly concerned with students using AI to write essays or whatever.
i can speak as someone who graduated from an american university and didn’t use AI even once throughout, there’s a lot of arbitrary bullshit you have to do to get a degree that someone with responsibilities other than school will have little time/energy/interest for. we are told college/uni is a barrier we must overcome to get a degree to make more money. when many of the standards of these institutions are, to put it in short, fucking stupid, people are incentivized to (some might say justifiably) use institutionally unacceptable means to overcome that barrier.
i have no idea why when it comes to “cheating” we suddenly stop critiquing academia as an institution and just default to holding it up on a pedestal.
i’m not asking you to be pro chatgpt essay writing but i am asking you to at the very least question why you’re so prepared to defend the supposed purity of the university degree. do i really need to list out everything wrong with academia beyond just the financial barrier? haven’t we already been there?

also how long can we ignore capitalism in this conversation. how long can we ignore the damage the pursuit of profit does anywhere it goes. because i’m supposed to be mad at like movie studios or something for profiting off of “black victimhood” but i’m not supposed to be mad at the system that incentivizes them to do that. please candace

i think the whole idea of certain types of people being inherently at the bottom of the hierarchy is reflected in the propaganda they use to justify/water down/shift the blame for slavery too. like this fixation on “actually white people were enslaved here, and white people led the charge in freeing the slaves”. let’s put aside the fact that “white” is a fairly new descriptor and shouldn’t be used so flippantly, but like what are we trying to prove here? that white people were not born inherently bad and more inclined toward enslaving? who’s making that argument? i’m surely not and neither is any other serious person.
but the whole argument is centered around saying “look here, we are not the type of people born inherently worse! oh and unrelated, we are also not the people who’s ‘culture’ makes them more susceptible to and deserving of poverty and exploitation!!” we’re not gonna say who is though because we’re still hiding the ball a little bit
i’m interested in how the watering down of slavery in history might be instrumental in convincing people that class oppression is somehow innate and necessary and fine actually. like are the same interests not protected when we justify slavery and when we justify like, paying laborers as little as possible and ensuring their desperation for shitty work through the hoarding of capital.
when will conservatives just start saying “well slavery was just the NORM, it was considered NATURAL” and not tack on the obligatory “but of course it was bad and wrong”. what is the point of continuously bringing up this point if not to try and convince me that slavery wasn’t actually that bad, and isn’t actually that bad, and poor people should just know their place, and class differences are not created by a system we continue to uphold but exist because some people are just stupid and worthless and deserve less.
