I will never let Supernatural off the hook for the shit they just pulled but if you look on the positive side of things..... it’s actually canon that Cas is and always has been in love with Dean. Cas is canon gay representation. Dean and Cas’ relationship will always be viewed in a romantic light now. Jensen Ackles has finally changed his tune and no longer shuts down people who think Dean is bi and in love with Cas and even implied that he himself thinks so too. The cast and writers are now openly supportive of Dean and Cas as a romance. We would’ve been coming up with “Dean and Cas get together post-canon” ideas no matter how it ended but now them getting together post-canon is actually the most likely outcome supported by canon. I mean they did it in a horrible way and we all deserve to feel every bit as angry and robbed as we do and we should’ve seen it onscreen but... imagine telling yourself these things a year ago. Wow.

Jensen said not to take Dean's reaction as confirmation that he doesn't reciprocate Cas' feelings, he said that most of Dean's reaction was cut out of the episode, we find out that the promos airing in Brazil have Dean confessing his love to the empty dungeon where he was crying in the final cut, Jensen said Dean didn't act on his feelings because he thought angels couldn't love romantically and NOT because Cas is in a male vessel...........

So knowing all this, I think its safe to say we were gonna get canon reciprocated destiel and Jensen and Misha were all excited about it only for them to find out that most of the scene was cut from the episode when the ep aired. They are probably just as upset as us right now guys.
