Tuesday, September 3rd: Hello, everyone. I’m Gem, a bi, mentally ill, and multiple disabled woman in need of help, as I am desperately struggling to get groceries and to keep my utilities on!!

I apologize for asking for help again; as most of you know from my previous posts, I have been struggling quite a lot to make ends meet while on welfare benefits and due to my rent arrears and ever-increasing debt. And to be quite honest, these past few months have been absolute hell for me, and with no other income, I've been relying on the kindness of others to get by.

However, after paying my rent and bills, I don't have any money left to get groceries for September, nor am I able to keep my utilities on. I also ran out of food on Saturday, and I dont receive my welfare until the 30th, so I am in dire need of help.

I know this is a lot to ask, but if anyone could spare any amount to help me, it would save me from starving, and sharing definitely helps just as much. Thank you ❤️

I know i’m functionally a gay DARE officer at this point but I do in fact feel some sort of way about Cocaine being back in vogue. Surely I sound like a square + narc and I’ll concede ok do whatever you want, nobody can materially stop another person from using drugs if they really want to 🤷🏻 I don’t really care that it’s hip to do party drugs, moreso I want to articulate a general level of caution and concern that I never see a sidecar of harm reduction and safe using practices along with the commonplace clips of people straight up snorting coke I’ve seen for “brat summer!!!1!!”

You 🫵 are not immune to ingesting fentanyl or any number of other additives. Do you think drugs at the gay club are different than the drugs people are taking under bridges and in gutters? I promise they’re not! So if you want to use drugs and continue being alive, do your part to be safe. Protecting yourself protects others and your community.

Do not accept drugs from strangers. Test your drugs with fentanyl test strips. Carry narcan and know how to administer it. Never use alone. Have an exit strategy if you’re using drugs in a public space. Know the contact information for your local harm reduction groups, overdose emergency hotline, and if you need/want it, addiction treatment orgs. This is all the bare minimum for community care if you intend to be out in the world using drugs. Mainly I encourage you all to be buzzkills if it means you don’t have to die of an accidental overdose. Overdose is the leading cause of death for Americans under 40. I have a whole lot of social workers in my network and however bad you think the synthetic opioid crisis is, it’s worse. The war stories I’ve heard from my people on the ground are… The shit of nightmares. Don’t let it be you or anybody you love.

Almost two months ago, I made a post to share Mahmoud's fundraiser. Since then he only raised €500. Since then he also lost his uncle who was like a father to him.

He already lost so much, yet he is constantly posting on twitter to ask for help to evacuate Gaza, help his family and continue his studies. I cannot express how desastruous it feels to see his tweets gets thousands of views with no donations, imagine then how it must feel for him. Two weeks ago he was tweeting about how he finally got a €50 donation after days without anything. It has been months now that he express how he is losing hope and thinking of stopping, of not posting anymore because of the lack of help he receives. And since then nothing changed.

I am posting his campaign here in the hope that the tumblr community will be more receptive to his plight and not ignore him like so many are doing.

Not that anybody asked, but I think it's important to understand how shame and guilt actually work before you try to use it for good.

It's a necessary emotion. There are reasons we have it. It makes everything so. much. worse. when you use it wrong.

Shame and guilt are DE-motivators. They are meant to stop behavior, not promote it. You cannot, ever, in any meaningful way, guilt someone into doing good. You can only shame them into not doing bad.

Let's say you're a parent and your kid is having issues.

Swearing in class? Shame could work. You want them to stop it. Keep it in proportion*, and it might help. *(KEEP IT IN PROPORTION!!!)

Not doing their homework? NO! STOP! NO NOT DO THAT! EVER! EVER! EVER! You want them to start to do their homework. Shaming them will have to opposite effect! You have demotivated them! They will double down on NOT doing it. Not because they are being oppositional, but because that's what shame does!

You can't guilt people into building better habits, being more successful, or getting more involved. That requires encouragement. You need to motivate for that stuff!

If you want it in a simple phrase:

You can shame someone out of being a bad person, but you can't shame them into being a good person.

got a lil injured recently bc 🥗 made me walk w no stretching & during the heat of the day when he visited a few days ago. my calves have been cramping & muscles tight. reg pain meds have stopped working for me & i only have 1 edible left. ive also been having my usual chronic pain flare ups recently too.

ive not been doing well at all mentally, emotionally & physically. im always exhausted and in pain w no good way to manage it. and while hoping i get a job, idk how much luck ill have with holding one down that Isnt work from home. ive been trying my best & still plan on trying but god am i tired.

one of my credit cards i got recently is saying i need to pay up despite me not spending anything yet 😭 its just the stupid annual fee. i owe $75 on that card & $175 on the other new cc. id like to pay both balances off for those so i can rely on them properly later. i also still owe most of my $300 balance on my oldest cc. my phone service bill & our internet + gas bills will be due the beginning of next month, so im trying to get those paid too.

my family has massively financially abused me (among other abuses) & continues to do so. ive been trying to keep myself afloat but that sadly means i also need to keep them happy too. ive essentially been forced into supporting a 3 person household as if im not disabled/a dependent & currently jobless w 0 education. while also trying to get funds to gtfo of this abusive household!!!
