In almost all languages I can think of, the "baby talk" word for father - and occasionally, the word that one uses to refer to their own father for the rest of their life - is something along to baba, aba, dada, papa, something a baby could be interpreted to say about at the time when they start babbling. Finnish doesn't really have that.

The formal word for father is isä, and the variations of the word used by kids, such as isi or iskä, still contain distinct consonants that kids under five are not very good at. I believe that it's likely that I'm missing something here and that I've got this all wrong, because the only other option is that it's really been that common in finnish culture(s) for fathers to simply look at their small child and go "don't even fucking talk to me before you can form full sentences."
