It’s been one week since I lost my littlest guy and it still hurts like hell but here he is looking very dapper and much more like himself than after he got sick.
The other furry hooligans are doing an admirable job comforting @scarletjedi and myself but I still miss him and always will.

Ok kids, for no reason whatsoever I’m going to teach you my favorite song:
Tumblr media
If the cops detain you shut your mouth!
If the cops detain you shut your mouth!
If they start to get all squirrelly then just ask for an attorney!
But if the cops detain you shut your mouth!
If they put your hands in zip ties shut your mouth!
If they throw you in a wagon shut your mouth!
If they say you got in fights then take advantage of your rights!
If the cops detain you shut your mouth!
If the cops detain your friends just shut your mouth!
If the cops detain your mom just shut your mouth!
If things are moving slow you can ask: Am I free to go?
…but if the answer’s no then shut your mouth!

Hey guys! Happy Pride!
Now normally I celebrate this month by donating what I can to organizations like:
Or
Or
And you should all do what you can for them! But this year I would also like to suggest that you buy some of your summer reading from queer owned bookshops:
Queer bookstores are an incredible, dire resource, particularly for queer youth trying to learn their history or just to see people like them in stories.
When I was a teenager Barnes and Noble did not sell almost any queer books about anything that wasn’t the AIDS crisis which led me to The Oscar Wilde Bookshop in NYC. That store turned into a haven for me, I went as often as I could sometimes just to chat with the employees because that was the only real interaction I was having with other queer people at the time.
They have since sadly closed (I was devastated) but there are still queer bookshops! And many of them have storefronts on :
So you get to screw Amazon too!
Seriously though, they’re scrubbing us from websites and archives and libraries. These stores may be the last repositories of our voices left standing as this gets worse and it will only be through sheer bravery and community support.
So read proudly and a little wrathfully! Find queer joy and history and community in these places that are unapologetically for us and screw everybody else.

Dude I only ever saw the SNL skits before but celebrity Jeopardy really IS like that on occasion.
I was not expecting “Lesser known breakfast cereals” as a category.
I was not expecting no one to get Fox in Socks on a question about animals in book titles the clue specifically being Dr. Seuss.
And I was absolutely not expecting Barbara Jean from Reba to hand Neil Degrasse Tyson his own ass on television.

Ok, I’m gonna rant a second here.
I am not a fan of romantasy, I don’t enjoy it so I don’t read it and you know what? That is a perfectly viable and dare I say preferable way of dealing with it than bemoaning the ‘devaluation’ of literature because a bunch of women and girls found something they liked and it happens to have a lot of sex in it.
We live in a world where we are expected to have no attention span, to think less, to imagine less. If someone is reading ANYTHING enthusiastically it should be celebrated just the same way we celebrate audiobooks for their accessibility and graphic novels for their appeal to those who may be intimidated by large chunks of text or just PREFER the format.
Literature is not separate from popular fiction and it never has been. The books we read as classics were published with the intention of making money not just art that is how it has always worked. The fact that this type of story is making a lot of money right now and is therefore getting a lot of attention and shelf space is not concerning.
What is concerning is the puritanical and frankly misogynistic idea that because there’s sex in it that it is inherently lesser than other books and it’s therefore only suitable for lesser people or that only lesser people would enjoy it.
Snobbishness masquerading as intellectual concern is still snobbishness.
Also I know more than a few women who read it in addition to other things. It’s almost like if you see someone at a sushi restaurant a couple times that doesn’t mean that they only eat sushi. They just really like it and that’s fucking fine!
There is no ‘fast food’ there is no ‘fine dining’ there is only what you will eat and what you won’t. So pick the thing that feeds you best and let everyone else do the same.

Hey just a reminder that literally no one has the authority to tell you that you are witching wrong. Like, obviously you can do harm even accidentally and you should do your best to educate yourself about things like appropriate terminology and respecting closed practices but there’s no singular right way to do it.
Don’t like candle magic? Don’t bother.
Don’t want to work with a deity? Don’t gotta.
Don’t believe in magic at all even? Not a prerequisite.
Witchcraft and paganism is a decentralized and very personal spirituality. If something doesn’t work for you or you’d rather put your energy into something else that is completely fine, your practice your rules.
The important thing is that you get something out of it, that the practice means something to you. Everything else is just set dressing. You can 100% never perform a single spell or organized ritual and be just as much a witch as someone who’s been part of a coven for decades. Hell, if you go for a walk in the park once a week to be near the trees for ten minutes and that’s all you have time for that counts as long as you’re doing it with intention.
The point of this is connection to our world and to the people within it. If you’re coming at it in good faith there is nothing to fuck up, only more to learn. Don’t let anyone discourage you from curiosity or setting boundaries.

Me: ok we need to buckle down and edit this book.
My brain:…but consider…
Me: NO
My brain: it’s shiiiny
Me: DON’T
My brain:…murder wives
Me: FUCK
My brain: Yup they do that too
Me: I WILL NOT
My brain: you bought a new notebook yesterday. Want some backstory? Maybe a plot point or two? Ooh we could have an epic midpoint reveal!
Me: ::sobs in writer::

‘Twas the morning of book sale and all through my abode
Nerds searched for totes without swear words to overload
This one says ‘fuck’ and that one says ‘hoes’ and this one has a naughty pun about prose
double entendres and bawdy abound
Guess it has to be this one from Trader Joe’s.

I have been on writing social media for a long time and the concept of planning vs ‘pantsing’ is kinda strange to me.
Like I write detailed 60 page outlines with dialogue in them but like…I’m making it up as I outline so isn’t that technically pantsing?
I don’t think either way is better than the other I’ve just found that this process works for me but it seems odd that we’re making it sound like they’re different things. I feel like it gives some people an excuse to feel superior for using one or the other (Stephen King has said rather famously that ‘outlining is the last resource of bad fiction writers’) and that is the opposite of useful advice.
Work the way you want to work, we’re all doing the same thing.
Unless you’re using ChatGPT and then we are absolutely not doing the same thing because you are doing nothing.

The is is Archie:
Tumblr media
Every morning I greet him like a supervillain greets their archnemesis when they infiltrate their lair.
I have been sick the past week and haven’t been doing it because I just don’t have the energy but today I was feeling slightly better and did it out of habit. I have never seen a happier dog.
I have no idea why but it made me feel so much better that this little idiot enjoys this weird thing I do just as much as I do. Though it is possible that he just actually thinks he’s a superhero in captivity.
This is Merlin:
Tumblr media
He was equally relieved to be greeted as a low level henchman this morning.
My dogs are very strange.
