Here’s a happy kitten post:

Back in April, I was working in a veterinary office when a couple brought in a 2 day old kitten. They found him on the side of the road with no mama in sight. They didn’t know how to take care of him so they handed him over to the vet. Shelters in our area don’t take kittens that young because they require round the clock care, so the vet was going to euthanize him. But he was such a strong, wiggly little guy and I could tell he wanted to fight so I volunteered to take him they gave me the whole “there’s a 50/50 shot he’s not gonna make it to a week old” talk but I didn’t care. I bottle fed that little baby every two hours for over a month, wiped his bum to encourage him to go to the bathroom, and paid for all his medical expenses. Now he’s a giant kitten who is so happy and sweet. I named him after the famous mountain climber Sir Edmund Hillary because even when his eyes hadn’t opened yet he was trying to climb out of the basket he was in haha. Here are some pics of him as he’s grown:

The picture of him in the party hat was when we were celebrating his first week of life, which is a monumental event in caring for neonate kittens. ☺️My little stinker is 8lbs now. The vet said he’ll be at least 13lbs fully grown. I’m so proud of him for being strong and making it through every curve ball in his young life ❤️ He is honestly the sweetest kitten I’ve ever known. I think handling him every day since he was so tiny has helped with his social personality. He doesn’t bite or scratch or get upset easily. I’m lucky to have him.

I had a beautiful life, suddenly I do not know how I lost my life, we live in a tent that can only accommodate 3 people, made of nylon that no human can bear, just standing in it for more than two minutes during the day is enough to melt you, in addition to insects, diseases and lack of privacy, imagine all this!! Can you live??

In addition, my father had a stroke due to the loss, and my mother also needs care due to chronic diseases and the lack of treatment, and her condition is getting worse. I am the only one who takes care of them. I really fear loss and I do not want to lose, as I lost a large part of my family, my home, my work, and my entire previous life.

Things here are more difficult than you imagined, reality is painful

We wake up every day to the smell of death, I have been surrounded by tanks and helicopters more than 4 times, each time I do not know how to survive? It seems that my death has not come yet

I know I’m not alone when I say the news I’m hearing isn’t the news I wanted to hear today. I basically unwillingly pulled an all-nighter because of how keyed up I was with anxiety. I hate these results. I’m stunned by the them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse campaign than the one Donald Trump ran. And he won. He fucking won. Didn’t even lose the popular vote. Election Nostradamus was wrong. The thing I’ve been afraid of for the last year actually happened.

I’m gonna be honest. It scares the hell out of me. But I’ve got two thoughts that I think I need to get out. Might as well do so here.

First thing: put down your phone. Don’t read the news. The temptation to read analyses and breakdowns and what happens next type news is real. I know that. I feel it too. But marinating in this isn’t gonna be good for us. It is what it is. I hate it too. Spending every waking moment thinking about Project 2025 and Trump’s threats and all that garbage is just going to make you feel bad. If you already feel bad, you don’t want to feel worse. The first thing you need to do is take care of yourself.

Second thing: Live. Be kind. Be compassionate. Support your community. Be loving to the people you love. Be loving towards strangers. And keep fighting. This is a pretty fucking bad setback. But it’s not defeat unless we allow it to be. You know what is defeat? Despair and fatalism. Defeatism. The greatest loss is surrendering to despair.

I know it’s hard right now. The best thing you can do is be compassionate to yourself and be compassionate to others. There’s gonna be a lot of vile hatred spit towards the most vulnerable among us in the coming days. We must demonstrate to those people that we love them more than others hate them.

Today, we are alive. Today we exist. Perhaps in some way that is its own act of rebellion. I hate that it must be, but so be it. Keep existing. And keep doing what you can do to leave the world better for your presence in it. Make art. Speak out. Love. Do not let this take those things away from you. For that is how they truly win.
