ardenmacintyre:
Arden had been helping some of the younger teens subdue one of the campers - the golden eyes were a sure sign of something wrong so she was careful not to injure the camper until she knew for sure what was going on - when someone slammed into her, knocking her off her feet onto the grass. Grimacing, the Hunter scrambled to her feet to face the other, her daggers in hand and her bow slung across her back. “Be careful! You could’ve knocked me out!”
Sawyer relished in the fight, she ran into the fray with fists ready. It brought her some strange kind of joy, fighting monsters, knocking out her peers without reprimand. She saw a golden-eyed camper knock Arden to the ground and immediately rushed over. She jumped and threw a punch so hard it knocked the possessed camper unconscious. She turned toward the hunter. “You good?”

Rhys had just come back from a morning of training body still sweaty from training in the arena. Saoirse was asleep on the bottom of his bed and he was moving around quietly, trying to avoid being loud so he wouldn’t wake her up. Though Saoirse was just a small puppy, she had the energy of a full grown dog and often fell asleep for long amounts of time during the day when he wasn’t around. Hearing the knock on the door he pulled it open, surprised to see his older sister standing in front of him since they didn’t speak much. “Oh hey Sawyer, what’s up?”
Sawyer decided not to waste time, she was rather blunt after all. “I like having siblings. Ares is my idol and we’re all part of him, and it sucks that I don’t know you guys all that well. That and I wanted to meet your dog, I love dogs,” she nodded. “You got any time to hang out? Maybe clean some weapons in the armory with me?”

Jack didn’t leave camp much. Not because he didn’t want to, but rather because he had to lay low for a while. So in order to get out of Cabin Five, more often than not he found himself cooped up in the armory. He’d been in there for a few hours now, feet kicked up on a metal table, cigarette in his mouth, music blasting through an old stereo, all while he tinkered with a damaged rifle, cleaning and restoring the weapon to its former glory. At the sound of someone pushing through the door, Jack sat up, bringing his feet to the ground and tossing the rifle on the table. “Hey,” his low, raspy voice cut through the music. “What’s up?”
Sawyer’s favourite places were the arena and the armory. Even though she favoured her spear, she found modern weapons way more practical. As soon as she stepped into the armory to see if they had anything new, she noticed her brother sitting there, she wasn’t sure if he was trying to hide the fact that he was holding the gun a moment before. “Hey. Bored,” she said in acknowledgement, then picked up a disassembled gun to put back together. “Need a hand?”

Even though Sawyer had been at camp full-time for years, the one thing she regretted most was not being as close as she could be with her siblings. She idolized Ares, any child of his was someone she held the highest respect for. She was sitting in her room when she heard someone come in, and by the sound of which room they went into, she was pretty sure it was Rhys. She figured now was a good a time as any, plus she wanted to see this dog he got from Diala for christmas. “Hey, Rhys, you in there?”

Arden nodded at the first question, but thought for a minute before she replied to the next. She…hadn’t ever thought about that, truthfully. “I don’t think it would’ve. I think I would have been more eager to join, if you want my honest answer. I would never have learned to defend myself as well without the Hunters’ and my lady’s help. Though I’m sure I would’ve learned eventually if I had gone to this camp.”
Sawyer nodded, it was an answer she could understand. If there was anything she could emphasize with, it was loyalty. “That’s cool, I’m sure you’ve learned a lot from them. So who was your godly parent after all?” Sawyer assumed it was someone with some sort of fighting skill, that would be useful.

springphee:
It had been a battle today for him to be roused from his bed. Phoenix’s pseudo siblings in the Hermes cabin had to spend more time trying to get him to move than they should have; he was inconsolable. “I wouldn’t bother trying if I were you.” He’d sensed someone approaching behind him. His phone had been switched off for days, as he couldn’t bear to look at the comments.
Sawyer might have been around for years, but she wasn’t very social. That was probably why she hardly knew anyone at camp, even now. She approached Phoenix when she saw how upset he looked, but stopped when he spoke. Instant regret washed over her, she was not the kind of person who did well with feelings. “Dude, you look like a wreck. What’s up with you?”

Arden shrugged. “Once you know how to deal with children, they’re easy enough.” The question wasn’t as intrusive as she expected. She’d gotten it many times before from campers, mainly other girls tentative about joining. “I was attacked for the first time by monsters. I didn’t know what to do and would’ve died had the Hunters not rescued me. Lady Artemis offered me the choice and…well, it seemed a lot better than dying in another attack. Not that I knew I was a demigod at the time.”
Sawyer raised her brows, impressed that she could have made such a decision with such certainly. “You found out after you became a hunter? Do you think knowing before would’ve changed your mind?” That was the one thing that had always prevented her from finding out how to join, her loyalty to Ares. Not that she was ever asked to join, but a girl could dream of that kind of adventure now and then.

Arden’s humor did return at the girl’s statement. An uncharacteristically sly smile crossed her face. “I like children, actually. My half-brother was a rowdy child and I often calmed him down, though I didn’t know how at the time, so I’ve had a lot of practice.”
“You got a gift then,” she said, clearly impressed. Sawyer did not have a reputation for being a patient person, even in the arena she had no patience for other people. “What made you join the hunters then?”

‘ You have no idea, ’ Charlotte wanted to retort, but then again, it wasn’t like she knew anything about Sawyer’s life outside of camp either. Instead, she shrugged as well, forcing an uncomfortable smile. “ It’s a good thing we have camp year round, then. ” Her eyes then widened at Sawyer’s comment. “ Oh, I meant the non-alcoholic drinks, I don’t drink either. ” Well, besides that birthday party this summer… “ Sparkling lemon water does sound good, though. Have you tried the blackberry flavored one they served at lunch ? ”
“Yeah, it is,” Sawyer couldn’t help glaring at Charlotte. At this point it was just force of habit. She was a bit surprised to hear the other didn’t drink either, of all things to have in common that was a hell of one. “Um, no. Not yet anyways. Sounds good though. Fuck, never thought I’d have something in common with you.”

Arden would have laughed at that if the other girl had not revealed her recognition of what she was. Her expression faltered. “Well, I’m not the same person I once was. Like I said, it was a while ago.” She tried to remain pleasant as the subject changed to her major. “I was studying to become a teacher. Likely an English teacher, though I hadn’t really decided yet. I didn’t finish school, though.”
Sawyer nodded, she wouldn’t have expected this kind of life to give all that much time for finish school and getting a real job. There might be a chance now, but she still wasn’t sure. “That’s cool, takes a lot of guts to be in charge of a bunch of kids who probably won’t listen. That would annoy the fuck out of me.”

A smile played on Arden’s lips at her words. “Yes, I think I’ve met some of them,” she told the other, thinking back on her hike with Keaghan. The question wasn’t one she expected, and it took her a couple of moments to think on. It had been ages since she’d had to use this blue dress; it wasn’t like she’d grown much since the last time she’d worn it. “I believe it was when I was in college, actually. Though, I wasn’t wearing anything as fancy as this. It was a more…revealing outfit.”
Sawyer’s eyebrows rose, and she had a smirk on her lips. “Oh yeah? Can’t say I was expecting that from a hunter,” she added with approval. “What did you study? I never even got to finish high school.”

Abigail nods in agreement. Everyone else is so excited for tomorrow, but for her? Abigail is used to celebrating the holiday on January the 6th with much less drama. “I am used to snow, and a different day. We celebrate what you English call Old Christmas.” She explains.
“Where are you from anyways?” she asked, curious about where one celebrates Old Christmas. “I’m from Canada, we’re pretty big on all holidays there.”

She looks to the sky, the colours making her miss her home and her much simpler life. She missed her parents, and the horses in the stables. Everything had been so much easier till she’d come here. She hadn’t had this awful conflict inside of her head. Abigail bites her lip, then turns back to the other camper. “I think not, but when think positively, it may.”
“Maybe I can get some weather kid to do it,” she wondered aloud. She didn’t have anything in way of bribes, but she could probably threaten people enough. “I’m from further north, it doesn’t feel like Christmas without a little snow.”

Charlotte had attended the dance with a few friends, all of which she’d unfortunately lost track of, whether from being asked to dance or simply getting lost in the darkened room. The daughter of Demeter hated being alone, truthfully, but being alone in a crowd felt even worse than an empty room. However, as she wished for someone to speak to, the last wish come true she’d ever imagined was Sawyer Kent. Normally, she would have rolled her eyes and lectured her on the camp’s mostly stable weather system, but it was Christmas. Instead, she only shrugged her bare shoulders. “ I wouldn’t know, this is the first winter I’ve been at camp. … Are the drinks good ? ”
Sawyer held back the urge to groan when she saw who she’d spoken to. She couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment the two began disliking each other, it just seemed to have always been that way. “Yeah, well some of us don’t have any damn place to go now do we?” She rolled her eyes. Lifting her glass, she shrugged. “I don’t drink, this is sparkling lemon water. I think it’s good, but I’ve got some pretty cheap tastes.”

Arden had been preparing to grab a bite to eat, have a look around the dance and go. She wasn’t big on dressing up and dancing, but she’d felt like it would be fun to at least put on the only dress she had with her and at least check out the festivities. This was the first year she’d be missing Christmas with TJ and Hugh, and she wasn’t sure how to feel about it. Having decided to stand alone, Arden was preoccupied with her own thoughts when the camper beside her spoke up. “Snow?” She glanced at the sky, pursing her lips. “It might. Though I don’t think the people with no sleeves would appreciate the colder weather.”
Sawyer nodded and shrugged. “I’m sure some campers can make it snow without being too cold.” She looked over at her partner in conversation and realized she was speaking to a hunter of Artemis. Part of her had always admired them, even wanted to be one of them for a while. “When was the last time you got this dressed up? I think it’s been years for me.”

Sawyer had walked in with Ruby, both dressed very glamorously for two daughters of Ares who never wore dresses or heels. They eventually got separated so she went to get a drink, giving herself a moment outside the crowd. She hardly ever used the makeup skills her mother taught her, the only thing she ever taught her, but she was actually pretty good at it and had done herself up to the nines tonight. Taking a sip of her drink, she spoke to a camper next to her. “Think it’ll start snowing soon?”
