Sawyer stood in front of the building, daunted by it's height.  It definitely didn't look that high from the sidewalk.  He sighed as he watched Grant climb up with ease and grace, like she had been doing it for all of her life.  He took a deep breath and began to follow her path up the side of the building.  He lost his footing once or twice, but was quickly able to recover and pull himself higher and reached the window sills that wrapped around the building.  He stood on one and looked up at Grant, and she was already halfway through, and picking up speed as she neared the top.
Sawyer tried to imitate her form, but quickly found that it was easier to pull himself up rather than jump.  They're just like tree branches,  he muttered to himself.  You're just climbing a really big, squarish tree.  He didn't even contemplate looking down, because he never did so when he climbed trees.  Not that the distance from the ground scared him, he just didn't like looking back.
She smiled at him, face clearly brightening. It would be fun, climbing a building with an acquaintance. “Nah, don’t worry you will. Just don’t look down if it bothers you too much.” Yet she did have a small chuckle hearing a small hint of shakiness in his voice.
Straight away she began to climb. First off, she found the right footing on each of the bricks and held on tightly as she brought herself up from the ground. It didn’t take long before she was already halfway through, to which there were now window sills lining it. Lucielle would grab on to them and literally jump from one to the other. This was what she was practically doing for most of her life.

Sawyer looked around.  The street was nearly deserted, everyone in their apartments enjoying family company.  He sighed, wishing that maybe he could just have some long term company.  He hadn't had such a long conversation in years, and he wasn't about to let this opportunity slip by.
"I'd love to climb up with you, but I'm not sure I'll make it to the top in one piece..."  Nervousness began to reveal itself in his voice, but he quickly cleared his throat and said, "I'll go with you.  But lead the way, I'll just follow you."
"Really? That’s how you got yer name? That’s…" Ridiculous. She bit her tongue,” Yeah, you’re right. If that was the case I’d be very tempted to mock you on and on for that.” As the sun was setting, she knew that she had to make the climb. After hearing his remark she gave a brief nod, but before she started up the building she asked him,” Are you… going to come up with me, check the stairs, or go off and do something else?” In all honesty, she really wouldn’t want him to leave so soon, since even talking to him for this little bit was nice in its own way.

"Well.  Grant seems to suit you better, I guess.  I'm one to talk about old-fashioned names, with a name like Sawyer.  My mom was reading some Twain when she found out she was pregnant, so I guess you can see where it went from there."  Sawyer sighed.  "At least I'm not Huckleberry or something ridiculous like that."
The sun was sinking behind the skyline fast, and the shadow of the building in front of them grew longer and longer until it stretched across the street and started to climb up the next building.  "You'll want to start climbing soon, or else you'll miss the sunset." Sawyer pointed out.
She gave him a good shake, a grip harder than most before taking her hand back. “Ahaha, you really think so? That’s not a problem really since I always tell people to call me Grant, Sawyer .” Emphasizing his name to make a subtle point was what she was aiming for. He might not catch it but at least it was implied.

Callie's wings unfolded before Sawyer's eyes, and Sawyer wasn't at all phased. You get all kinds out in these woods, I guess, Sawyer thought.  He examined the little girl before saying, "Well you're quiet cute, Callie.  I'm Sawyer Matthews.
"Are you familiar with these woods, or are you just a couple of back-country hikers with a map?"  Sawyer continued, forgetting that Callie couldn't have been more than thirteen, and back-country hiking in those woods for an experienced hiker at least.  The leaves cast nearly perfect shadows on the pine needle carpet of the forest, indicating that it was about noon.  Sawyer instinctively raised his wrist to check the time, only to see the cracked face of a cheap, watch he bought from Wal-Mart.  He sighed and stuffed his hand back into his hoodie pocket, blocking out the memories of home.
Alex beamed. "Yep, never go anywhere without it. Useful, as you can see." he chuckled, smoothing the left side back down. The tall man's coat seemed to move on it's own from behind, as if little hands were grabbing on to it. Alex's smile seemed to get bigger at the stranger's question, one wouldn't be able to imagine it getting any bigger. "Oh! You mean..." Alex reached around from behind his back and grabbed something, follow by a small huff of protest and more rusting. Finally, Alex pulled around a short girl wearing short khaki shorts and a tanktop.
The girl seemed fairly normal as she muttered a couple things and wriggled from Alex's grasp, getting loose and smoothing down her clothes. Freckles dusted the bridge of her nose and short yellow, orange, and light brown messy hair framed her face. Seeing the person in front of her, the girl's face got bright red and nervous. Rather than covering her face with her hands, though, the girl unfurled large feathery objects of the same color as her hair and covered her face with...wings.
"This is Callie!" Alex announced, taking a large hand and scruffing up the girl's hair. "Callie, come on now I know you aren't that shy." he laughed, looking down at her with fondness. He quickly glanced back up at the other person. "Actually, don't think i've introduced myself either! I'm Alex."

"Need a match?"

"I don’t know, the fire inspires me- I know that sounds cheesy but fire always looks really cool. Plus it smelled good, before it burnt out." she confessed "I don’t usually shop there, but I was browsing the web and they had some great t-shirts and sweaters that caught my eye."

Sawyer snatched the bar out of his hands and began unwrapping it.  "Don't mind if I do.  Some trench coat you got there."  After munching for a while, Sawyer said (with a full mouth), "Traveler is a broad term.  I prefer woodsman or even runaway, but only use that last one when absolutely necessary.  Who's that with you?"
"Traveler, eh?" Alex replied simply, grinning again before starting to search around in the various pockets of his trench coat for something the boy could eat. "I usually carry around a few nutrition bars, I should have one...aha!" he murmured, then exclaiming as he pulled from an interior pocket a generic nutrition bar, the usual things supplied by the Rest Quarters. Alex held it out for the boy. "It's not much, but hopefully this can help! Pardon if it's a bit crumbly."

"Sawyer Matthews."  Sawyer shook her hand.  "You got a nickname or something?  Lucielle's kinda old-fashioned."
"Climbing trees are fun. So are walls or fences. There is more thrill climbing high up though, than going up the staircase in my opinion." Hearing his reply made her laugh again," Of course I’m plannin’ on climbing it! I’ve been climbing walls my entire life, this is practically nothing. And if I fall, I fall." What she said was true. She had to escape from chasing somehow, and climbing was a very important skill that she was blessed to have. Looking him up and down, she smirked only lightly," I don’t know you’re name yet, do I? Lucielle Grant." her hand was outstretched towards him.
