toxic and obsessive stans who are over the age of say, 22 make me sad. it’s one of the most low self esteem pursuits to devote your life to… you completely abnegate yourself. it’s an admission that you don’t think any part of you is worthwhile except for your ability to be a loyal vassal. your free time revolves around someone else’s art and career, not yours. your finite life is not your own

there is just no honor or merit in setting yourself aside like this. your grandchildren will never brag to their friends that you were a really good stan. which is why you have to have low self esteem to do this in the first place. no one who respects themselves as a person thinks “the most important thing i could possibly do with my time is celebrate someone else’s accomplishments and parasocially aggress against their perceived enemies.” on what grounds do you justify that aggression? you’ve never done anything with your life. you’ve created no art of your own. you’ve won no awards. you’ve impressed no one. you’ve taken no risks, you’ve done none of the hard work. your credit-taking is pathetic and delusional. how do they not realize this?

I hate how internet culture has bred in people the impression that ignoring all contextual cues is some sort of smart criticism. At this point, I don't even think some young people know that paying attention to subtext and contextual cues (eg: who is saying it, the audience a message was crafted for, what is being said in response to what) is part of reading comprehension. We all know it: people feeling they have to overexplain themselves and provide addendum after addendum because everything related to a topic has be EXPLICITLY stated every time because some Absolute Genius will come along and be like "Hey! This thing wasn't explicitly stated in this instance- are you saying [wild misinterpretation]?" Can we just stop kowtowing to this specific brand of illiteracy. Personally, I have. I no longer care about over-explaining to those maliciously feigning ignorance or the genuinely and unfortunately pea-brained.
