Excerpt from “It’s Warm with You.”

"Asshole!" Naruto spat. Then, without thinking, he reached and squeezed Sasuke's ribs.

Sasuke flinched and jerked away. "Don't even think about it."

Cue Naruto giggle. "About what?"

"About that."

"What? I can't help you're ticklish! Say you're sorry and maybe I won't."

"No way."

Quick as a flash, Naruto pounced on top of Sasuke, pinning him down and rendering him immobile before the Uchiha could even react. Sasuke felt squirmy from being pinned down from Naruto. He tried his best to glare him down. "Don't you DARE, Naruto." He growled, trying to be as intimidating as possible.

More Naruto giggles. "What? Are you really that scared of being tickled?" He began to effortlessly scribble his fingers all over Sasuke's belly and sides.

Sasuke tried his best to keep his stoic composure. He wouldn't blubber like a fool. But soon, chortles would escape his lips, and then squeaks from trying to hold it in, and soon he was laughing and giggling helplessly. He hadn't been tickled in so long, he had almost forgotten the feeling. He felt it was such a childish thing to do, but of course Naruto was there to break down that wall again. In fact, as soon as Naruto showed the slighted chance of letting him go, he turned around and pinned Naruto down, tickling him back and rendering the blonde helpless in a fit of giggles. Sasuke had never even tickled anyone in his life. But watching Naruto squirm underneath him sent those damn butterflies back in his chest. He thought about how he could make Naruto squirm in other ways, but he quickly shoved that thought away again.

They both fought and wrestled for a while, Naruto gaining the upper hand yet again and sending Sasuke back into a laughing frenzy. Sasuke excused it on still maybe being weak from sickness, but truth was he had never laughed so much in one day. It left him feeling so weak he couldn't really fight back. He felt his face turning red as he began giggling, embarrassed for having such a reaction. He NEVER giggled. Or laughed this much. Naruto thought Sasuke's laugh sounded like great bells ringing, or like a rich, sweet syrup.

Finally, Naruto let him go, relishing the flushed look on Sasuke's face and feeling elated to see the Uchiha so decomposed. It gave him butterflies to see that. To see Sasuke smile and laugh and just really let go. He was so used to the years of cold stares. Sasuke gasped for air, trying to force down the smile still on his face. "I…I'll…I'll get you…back….Naruto…." He gasped, jabbing his finger in Naruto's ribs as a last hurrah.

How to Tell if Sasuke Likes You

He will invite you out to do menial tasks with him such as cleaning weapons, training, etc. It’s not a date per se, but he will seek out your company for doing his usual activities for the day. He will dismiss it with a, “You sit around doing nothing,” or “Let’s just go.”

He’s consistently nearby. At the market, the training grounds, in the library, it doesn’t matter. He seems to always find your energy and will follow it. Sasuke will have a small interest in what you do outside of work or school, so he’d discreetly watch you if he catches you at a restaurant with your friends or studying at a park.

Somehow, Sasuke remembers every piece of information you say and will remind you in passing, such as a book series you liked or how you’re no good at Warring States History. He takes note of everything you share about yourself and tries to make your life easier. A book you wished for will appear in your bag after you both hung out. If you eat lunch together, he will bring extra just in case your habit of forgetting strikes again. 

Blushing. His skin gets warm to the touch sometimes, especially if you say something a bit forward or stare at him for too long. He doesn’t like the feeling much, the throbbing heart, the knots he gets when you approach him. He tries to keep it under control by not looking at you but it seems to creep up on him after a while. Sasuke will just pass it as the hot weather or a fever he is getting over. 

Out of nowhere, you won’t see him for long periods of time. He will avoid your presence and take the time he needs to self-reflect. It’s common  for him to do this when you both feel your relationship is developing strongly.

Sasuke will stare at you for long periods of time. It could be passed off for being a a shinobi, an observer of movements whether direct or discreet. However, there is a part of him that contains longing and curiosity, so staring and daydreaming is something he partakes in often. To him, every time he observes you he notices something new about you and how you look, restarting the conclusion he was leading to in his head. He does it when you’re far away and can’t see him, but when you’re close he purposefully keeps his eyes on everything but you. 

He will touch you. Surprisingly, he can be affectionate since he learned it from his brother and mother. This usually shown by walking close enough that your shoulders touch, sharing food, or leading you by the wrist. Over time as a fugitive, he’s became more relaxed with physical closeness and shed the propriety that came with being a Uchiha. This isn’t to say he’s overtly affectionate, but he isn’t as stiff as he used to be. Any pull away from you would be mostly from shyness and uncertainty rather than pride and indifference. Over time, he will poke your head when you both part ways, or lay a hand there during a quiet moment you share. Touch is a way for him to tell you he is and will always be there, that he’s thankful for you, that you’re safe, and that he understands you.  

When he is standing up, he will put his hand on your knee as he pushes off. 

He will nudge your shoulder when you’re both being cheeky towards one another. 

When he talks about his past or something sensitive to you, he will study your hands in his in a distracted way. 

Sasuke won’t hesitate to direct you somewhere. He will grab your shoulder or nudge your waist one way if he sees something in your way or he wants to take a detour. 

He’ll allow your hands to touch his when he’s passing you something.

He will ask you questions. Sasuke usually keeps his curiosity under control, but he will let it slip when he’s around you. Most of the conversations you share would be you talking and him listening and asking a question or two. It’s interesting seeing how dynamic you are as a person, and he feels strange that his curiosity about you isn’t sated the more you both talk. 

He will share (begrudgingly). This is a big step. Most of his life he was on his own and had a measly amount of belongings. He had many things taken from him, so he keeps people away from the few things he has to his name. His sword, his space, the like. When he begins to put your needs first and share his food, or allow you to feel his sword, he trusts you.

Sasuke will slip. He keeps a mask of his emotions very well, but when he grows comfortable around he will allow himself to smile or make a face at something you said. 

At times, Sasuke can get cheeky. When you’re both comfortable with each other, he may tease you. He will say it with such a straight face you would think he meant it, but it makes it funnier. It would become a pasttime to exchange quips while walking through the woods together.
