Lando joined McLaren when they were in the trenches. He has helped the team's development since 2017 (when he was test driver). he did his apprenticeship with them.
He was part of mclaren's resurgence in 2019. He stayed after 2022, even though he could have easily gone to another team to taste success. He stayed in years where getting a p7 was celebrated like a fucking podium. He kept faith and believed his team had the talent and capability to be the best of the best.
Every time he has re-signed he's talked about how he did it so the team would have stability and would know he believed in them. In 2022 and the start of 2023, he told his team he believed in them, he told the media his team could turn it around. He was constantly protecting them in front of cameras, despite people saying he was stupid to stay. He is the team leader, their lead driver, willing to do anything to make sure McLaren is on top.
he's been with them for almost a decade now. In that time, McLaren has gone from last on the grid to constructors champions, and through it all Lando has been there, the constant, working towards and hoping and believing they would get there. No one deserves this success more than him🧡🧡🧡

"The thing I‘ll be proudest and most happy about is the fact that I‘m still here. The fact I‘m still in papaya because I believed in the team for many years. I had opportunities to not be in papaya (…) but I believed and I wanted to simply do it with McLaren."
Lando spoke beautifully about his journey with McLaren and what the team and winning with the team means to him:

Crying. Carlos you are so dear to me.
You've been Lando's teammate. I don't know if you've seen some of his interviews in the media pen lately. Do you think he's different?
Carlos: No. Lando? I see him as a very honest man, maybe a bit too much at times for the criticism he then receives for being honest. He tells the truth, he doesn't have any filters. If he isn't doing well mentally, he says so, but then he criticizes himself.
When the whole world is pushing to have clarity, honesty (about) mental health, we don't speak with such an example. There's a guy who has done an incredible season – because Lando drove very well this year – and he's a bit honest, he shows his weaknesses a bit and gets criticized a lot.
All of us in press conferences put on a face, but we all have weaknesses inside. All the drivers. And one of us who shows them, gets criticized a lot, so I feel a bit bad for him in that sense.

What annoys me is the FIA saying it’s a slam dunk penalty but taking over 15 laps , 2 safety cars to actually give the penalty to give Lando 0 time to recover
“Slam dunk” penalties are usually given immediately as they are clear penalties so why wait so long ?

The worst is that Lando is only blaming himself. If this somehow determines the WCC he will be the one to blame himself for that. It would be absolutely heartbreaking and devastating if he would have to end this amazing season with that guilt and blame. This team means everything to him and if he only for a second thinks that he cost them a championship he would never forgive himself…

Being a Lando fan has been an absolute nightmare the past two months. The last time I felt peace was in Singapore. Since then it’s been one blow after the other. From online hate/abuse to being terrorized on track to extremely unfair and questionable decisions from the fia. When will this nightmare end? I am so ready for this season to end.
