I Don’t Like Spiders (L2LY chapter three)

A/N: did i mean to post this last week? Yes. Did I? No because I forgot yikes.

Warnings: none.

By the time Autumn had woken up, it was already night time, she guessed she could just go back to sleep, but her stomach rumbled loudly in protest when she put her head back on the pillow. Sitting up, she realized there was a large shirt and some sweatpants on the dresser in her room, she hadn’t even noticed that Natasha had came in, did she sleep that hard?

She removed the robe she was wearing and put the clothes on, putting her dirty rags in a basket she had found. They were big on her, long. She was a couple inches shorter than Natasha, and not as skinny. It seemed like she got clothes from someone else honestly, but Autumn didn’t really want to make an issue, she had nothing to be mad about, she was out of those rags so she was grateful.

She quietly exited her room, heading to the small kitchen that was in the apartment. She opened cabinets and the freezer and refrigerator and realized that she had no food there, it was obvious, Thor had never stayed there before this so why would there be food here?

She recalled what Tony said about a “common room” that is usually stocked with snacks and food and decided that leaving this safe space would be the best bet she had at getting food. She exited the apartment and almost immediately fainted at the sight before her. The hallway was long and dark, there were some lights on, but not many, they weren’t needed. What time was it? Was everyone sleeping? How long did she sleep?

She stumbled down the hall quickly. Her steps echoed as she sped towards what she hoped was an elevator to go to the common room. Elevator in sight she smiled to herself and did a small “Yes” of victory and started walking faster.

She heard the sound of a door closing and jumped as a shadowy figure stood next to her. She screamed and jumped to the other wall, hands gripping her shirt and left knee coming up to shield her stomach.

“Sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you,” a boy said. She tilted her head and looked as the figure came over to her, she could finally see his features. “I heard something in the hall and decided to see what it was.”

His curly brown hair was a mess on the top of his head and his red cheeks and squinted eyes made it obvious that he had been sleeping. She glared at him and didn’t reply, he was cute, but she immediately decided she did not like the boy. He awkwardly laughed and shook his hand out.

“I’m Peter Parker.” She made a face but nevertheless kept her manners and shook his hand anyway.

“Autumn. I don’t have a last name.”

“Oh! You’re the girl that Tony told me to show around, you were sleeping so I thought that I could introduce myself whenever you woke up.” She nodded and stared at him, not replying. “Do you need help finding something?”

“...Kitchen.”

“You must be hungry, huh?” He started walking and Autumn trailed behind, still not fully trusting the strangely awkward boy. He entered the elevator and pressed a button. She took a mental note and stood in a corner away from Peter.

“So how old are you?” He asked after a couple seconds of silence.

“I don’t know.”

“Oh, well your name is pretty.”

“Thanks, Tony gave it to me earlier.”

Silence plagued the elevator, Autumn wasn’t really one for conversation, she was sure that it was the same before Sakaar too. She studied the walls of the elevator, stared at the buttons. Peter had given up on trying to make small talk, it was obvious that she didn’t care for it.

When the doors opened, Peter led her through a lounge with multiple chairs and couches into a large kitchen. “Uh, you can make anything you’d like, though I would stay away from things with peoples names on them. Everyone can be a little possessive over their food.”

Autumn nodded and immediately went into the refrigerator and spotted some eggs. She grabbed the whole carton and set it on the countertop. She scanned the rest of it and found stuff that she could make, but didn’t feel like making. “Do you have tortillas?” She asked Peter, remembering the foods that she usually ate a long time ago.

“Uh Yeah, they’re in this little bread box with the bread.” He got it for her and she found potatoes and got to cooking.

It was silent as she cooked, Peter stayed with her, watching silently. When she was done she made both of them plates. Peter looked shocked, hands reaching out to take the plate of breakfast tacos. “You made enough for me?”

“It would’ve been rude of me not to.”

“Thanks.”

“Mm-hmm.”

They are quietly, Autumn could feel Peter’s eyes on her but decided not to comment. “Is everyone that lives here a superhero?” She asked trying to make the situation less awkward. Peter looked relieved.

“Uh, basically? I mean there are some shield agents that live and work here that aren’t considered ‘superheroes’ but the main people here are.”

“You too?”

“Me too what?”

“Are you a superhero.”

“Yeah, I guess you can say I am. I mean I’m an Avenger.”

“What’s your thing then.”

“Uh, they call me Spiderman. I have super strength, spidey-senses-“

“Oh, I guess that’s alright, considering.”

“Considering what?”

Autumn shrugged, shoving another bite of her taco into her mouth, “I don’t like spiders”.
