MI5017 – Animation Performance
SASINDI RATHNAPALA
Critical Analysis on the Project
For the outline of this module to make an animation to the characters designed for MI5014. Make 11sec club animation for the given audio.
The story for the animation of the characters is the lodger visit the homeowner’s house to check on the family and invite them to the festival of the day of dead. The homeowner recently lost their child and still in a sorrow of the only child. Lodger is a tribal person who is traditional and kindhearted warm person who think about others and help who are in need.
Story for the 11 sec club animation, two friends having a chat about been old fashion. 11sec club animation is done in maya. Two characters are imported from a website and rigged in maya.
 In the animation asset modelling is done in maya and in z brush. Added the textures in maya. The main downfall was the rigging. First the lodger rig worked smooth and fine but after combining all models like the home, homeowner first the homeowner rig did not work. Tried days to fix the problem but could not get it right. Then after when I tried to rig the lodger it also did not work either. Reset the maya interface also did not work, fixing joints also did not work. I tried the previous worked files too, but it also did not work.  Even for small file maya took a long time to load, and it get stuck. the best solution for now is to ignore maya and use blender for rigging but I do not know how much time it will take to complete the rigging and it is in the last moment. But there is a catch it takes a lot of time to learn blender and add everything because I have not use blender before. So, I thought to use camera angles to show the story. If not, I will not be able to submit the project.  A new problem when the models mess up when the I am trying my best to do what I supposed to do at this time but must regret some decisions that I took, and at the time I think it is the best.
For the 11sec animation I tried to find another rig which is much nicer smooth did but could not find the correct rig. So, after sticking to the pervious rig, I animated the rig again and unfortunately in the middle of rigging maya stopped and crashed. So, I sticked with the previous animation.
Even if it seems like I keep doing the work till the last moment it is not. Most of the time I do and redo a lot of things which took a lot of time and kept thinking and testing solutions for the errors.
