The American Dream - southern gothic

— Your dream takes you to an unfamiliar place, a rural town that seems empty of all its people. You see abandoned churches, houses in swamps that are slightly tilted into murky water, and yellow eyes that follow you in the dark. There are way more tombstones than people, all of which you can't read and are unkempt and surrounded by wildlife. You go through a wheat field and could’ve sworn you saw a woman dressed in white pinned to a cross, but she disappeared the second you caught a glimpse, leaving the cross empty and standing ominously in the distance. You’ve been here for too long for it to be a dream, and you truly are alone... are you?

You discover that you’re in a place called the Southern Gothic, a dream that encapsulates both the mundane and dark ways of southern life. While the pitch black roads and the singing of the cicadas are eerie, the golden afternoons and flourishing landscapes are enough to call this place home. Enjoy your new stay here as you won’t be waking up. Don’t worry, you’ll have a visitor soon…
