February Wrap-up!
Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire.
2.75/5 stars.
This series is a hit or miss with every book. I found this one to be fine. I enjoyed it enough to read it but it was far from one of my favourites in the series, and honestly it's a pretty forgettable book. It's especially disappointing considering I really enjoyed the last instalment in this series.
The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne.
3.75/5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book! I had been craving a viking fantasy and this definitely satisfied that craving. I really enjoyed the three main characters' POVs - Orka is badass! However, I never felt all that connected to any of the characters which slightly dimmed my enjoyment. I also found the pacing to be slow. I'm someone who loves slow-paced stories, but for some reason the pacing for this one just didn't catch me. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience and I'm planning on reading the next one soon!
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett.
4.25/5 stars
This was so CUTE!!!!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and felt the balance of fantasy and romance was well done. The storyline was solid and Emily was such a great and refreshing character perspective to read in. And Wendell!! Loved him! Loved them together!
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett.
4.25/5 stars
This was such a great sequel and I enjoyed reading it just as much as the first book! The storyline was just as solid and Emily and Wendell were just as cute. I'm excitedly waiting for book 3!

First book of 2024 is complete! And, wow, what a great start to this year of reading!
Blood over Bright Haven by M. L. Wang was a dark and at times uncomfortable read that captured my attention right off the bat. The author masterfully delves into subjects surrounding injustice, colonialism, and exploitation and abuse of power all within a fantastical dark academia setting (love that!).
The characters' own flaws and growth, are also at the forefront of this novel which I loved as someone who tends to prefer character-driven books. Sciona's journey, especially, throughout this book was so well done and satisfying to read.
Overall, I give this book a 4.5/5 stars. M. L. Wang has yet to disappoint and I'm excited for whatever they have to offer in the future!
