Typing in #picturebooks came up with a variety of things. There were many books promoted, however, were used for many reasons such as; prompting book readings, art, to convey ideas and spark inspiration. This demonstrates that people enjoy picture books for the pictures, the meanings, the language ect. I found a book named ‘The Money We’ll Save’ by Brock Cole. It’s a beautiful book about family. It has warmth and colour throughout and was inspiring as they family go through hard times and encourages the audience to appreciate the finer things in life.

It is important for students, especially by grade 5/6 to know and recognise Indigenous language. This video is at least, a great introduction to this. Many activities such as; writing a story with the challenge of using some of the words provided in the video. It can also allow them to research Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders history and focus on geography components.

Prompt 5
Wordle sentence - Without food in my hollow stomach, I lay on the cold ground with no strength and look up at the night sky feeling transparent, surrounded by silence as I slowly withered away and died.
Sentence two - The world has become oblivious and continues to keep moving.
Three (activity) - Students will examine and discuss what they believe the book is about based on the front cover. This will open possible themes and concepts such as; starvation, poverty ect. It opens up students to their imagination and to the harsh reality of third world countries. They will create a blurb to draw the audience in and to explain what they believe the text is about. Advanced students can also create an introduction note using a quote, making up their own sentence or dedicating the book to people with a justified reason.

1. For placement, I made many displays for the classroom to do with literacy. The displays consisted of different words to use for ‘angry,’ ‘sad’ and ‘said’ to improve their writing. These were used multiple times by many students during writing lessons and many students also came and told me they were picking up many different descriptive words in the books they were reading. The importance of classroom displays is essential and also strengthens confidence in students abilities, especially when displays of their work is shown.
2. The poster displayed ^^^ is focusing on phonemes, in particular, the S sound  in words using s, se, ss, ce, x, c. As a class, brainstorming words with these letters that make the same sound was done. The class then chose 15 words they believed were the most interesting and we wrote them on the poster as a reminder that these letters can all make one sound.

Prompt Four
Placement is always a wonderful experience and is a fantastic opportunity for improvement. Literacy is my favourite part of the curriculum and I believe, is my biggest strength to teach.
My best lesson with the grade 5′s this trimester was when I asked the class for a story idea and wrote out a basic introduction with barely any detail. As a class we discussed the importance of vivid verbs, descriptive language and luring leads. Once this was spoken about, all students were more than willing to add more interesting words and ideas to change the story so that it incorporated these things. Students were then instructed to go and write their own introduction using the plan they had made in the previous lesson whilst I roamed the classroom having one on one discussions and offered helped. I also received positive feedback for this lesson.
A lesson in literacy that could be improved upon is when I got the grade 5′s to improve the brief sentences I had written to consolidate what they had learnt in the lesson above, however, it became a long lesson where the students were on the floor for too long. So making the activity more group based rather than on the floor so that they could focus on independent learning and to break up the lesson more.
Reading was always incorporated within the writing lessons, but independent reading was crucial at the start and middle of the day for 10 minutes. Article reading and using the ‘reading strategies’ such as; inferring and predicting were important.

This piece of writing is written quite well, however, there is room for improve on conventions so that their meaning is more clear and concise. The first sentence is ‘lengthy,’ starting at ‘The author builds up...to find out what will happen.’ This sentence can be broken into two full sentences, or have commas to allow the audience to have a breath.
This writing sample shows that the student does understand the use of talking marks, but not when to always use it, such as; ‘such as when she said, she was falling, we all wanted...’ because their punctuation can be discussed on the importance and use so that their understanding is improved. This will also demonstrate to the student in a discussion, the importance of proofreading and editing, as the second paragraph misses words so that the sentence makes sense i.e.. ‘this is the part of the story it gets all of us nervous.’

Prompt One
Reading has always been a way to escape for me. I have experienced my parents read to me as a child along with my grandparents. I also read to my brothers and cousins.
Being read to by parents and grandparents from a young age sparked a love of all books, especially because there was never a set genre.
There was one particular teacher that I had in grade four that did share a passion about reading and a love for books. I believe that this was infectious and encouraging for all students within her classroom. We were each offered the chance to read a part of our story allowed to the class and share what we enjoy most about the text. This was a great way to build confidence and to really appreciate all student’s for their unique choices and understand what they got most out of their reading.
This grew to a love of Dr Suess books amongst the classroom, as they were often the books she loved to read us to spark motivation and often prompted class discussions - of which I still refer back to. ‘Oh the Places You’ll go!’ was the text used to best describe my year 12 year level and I read this allowed to my year level when we were graduating.
