Offering

I made a poem going to sleep last night, woke in sunlight, it was clean forgotten.

If it was any good, gods of the great darkness where sleep goes and farther death goes, you not named, then as true offering accept it.

Libreria dei Sognatori

A bookshop where people can rest, eat some cake, drink some tea, and explore books.

There's a book club once a week, writing classes with authors, workshops, and a space for children to learn how to write stories and draw comics.

All kinds of special books can be found here: from local fiction writers to unknown translations, and from beloved authors to names lost in time. There's a book for everyone, although it's clear that the owners love Asian fiction and beautifully illustrated books.

The walls are yellow, there are table covered in red gingham cloths made by a neighbour, and fresh flowers from the fields. A cat naps near the counter and it's free to come in and out - the neighbourhood is safe, and the booksellers live just around the corners.

There's a handmade hot air balloon hung on the ceiling, and ivy running across the shelves.

Right outside there's a books for second-hand books for cheap, full of marvellous titles ready for adoption. And just besides there's a wooden cabinet painted in green, red and light blue flowers with a sign that says: "Prendi un libro, lascia un libro", take a book, leave a book, a space for those who don't feel like buying a book just yet, but are inspired to read something different and revamp their personal libraries.

In the evening the local guitar player entertains the readers, wine is offered for a drink, friends hang out in groups, and couples fall in love.

There's a shelf full of old toy - some are on sale, others live in the shop - and the children point at them at every visit. Colourful cups are hung by metal hooks, mostly handmade and bought from artists here and there, and soft jazz music fills the air with velvety voices and deep basses.

The booksellers suggest green tea, as it says on the small blackboard right behind the till, and lemon cake made by one of them. Every day there's a new cake, it's unexpected and a surprise for the customers, fresh from the oven and ready to eat.

Every detail is curated: full-colour handmade book wrapping, and the cards are printed by hand by the lady who runs the shop. Candles are also handmade, prompted just outside the shop and lit up to lighten up the fresh evening.

There's a sweet atmosphere in this bookshop: it's like stepping in a place lost in time where only love and books live.
