Headcanon: Sasuke and Sakura’s Heart-to-Heart Talks
SS travel series (07)
Part 1 of 2
—
“You know, this is probably the first time in a long time that I’m appreciating a moment like this,” the pink-haired kunoichi said, holding her hands up in front of the camp fire.
“Hn?” Sasuke asked, looking up from the scroll he was reading. He wasn’t sure he got what she meant.
“Just enjoying the quiet evening — watching the sparks go up to the sky, feeling the warmth on my fingertips.” Sakura beamed from across him.
Sasuke stared at Sakura, realizing that every single day, Sakura always found something to be grateful for. She’d be thankful for sunny days, for a breeze, for the rain. It was both refreshing and unsettling for Sasuke to bear witness. Mostly because it brought the contrast between them to light.
To him, Sakura was sunshine in the darkness. She was love and light, and everything he didn’t deserve.
“You don’t miss the Leaf?” Sasuke asked, trying his best to keep his voice even, however the evident worry and insecurity bled through his words.
Sasuke knew it wasn’t easy nor comfortable to be on the road. Apart from that, she also had to experience the backlash that came with traveling with a notorious man whose name was once in the Bingo book.
It constantly weighed on Sasuke’s mind that Sakura had left behind her comfy life back in Konoha.
“Of course, but my place is here. And it’s where I want to be,” Sakura said softly.
It was times like this that made Sakura wish she could make him see that all is forgiven, that he too, was a victim of circumstance that he had no control over. Sakura’s heart bled for how much Sasuke’s heart still bleeds. But she told herself that it will take some time to heal, but one day Sasuke will get there.
“Don’t you want to be with your family?”
“Mom and dad said to invite you to dinner if we’re back home, when we can,” Sakura said, hoping to ease some of Sasuke’s anxiety. Sasuke’s face softened. And Sakura almost smiled in triumph.
“Aa,” Sasuke replied. Feeling relief settling in his stomach. It didn’t matter to him if he was hated, but it mattered to him that those close to him and the people they cherished, didn’t.
Sakura crossed the gap between them, situating herself beside Sasuke.
“Hey, Sasuke-kun,” he looked to her and was met with her meaningful gaze.
“Hn?”
“I’m with family now, too.”
Sasuke looked at Sakura with such intensity that Sakura blushed under his gaze.
“What?” She asked him, feeling shy.
“I…” Sasuke began, feeling a little shy himself. “I appreciate you being here.”
“How lucky are you? Your very own pretty doctor,” Sakura joked, trying to play off her shyness. Sasuke raised an eyebrow.
“How lucky are you? Traveling with a handsome man,” Sasuke said as he got up. Sakura’s jaw slackened to the ground.
“Sha-Shannaro—Sasuke-kun, you!”
As Sasuke walked over to the tent, a smirk played on his lips. If there’s one thing he’s discovered during their travels, it’s that he absolutely loved to tease Sakura.
—
A few hours later, when Sasuke was sure that Sakura had fallen into a deep slumber, he took a scroll from his pack and wrote a message to Kakashi.
Need to speak. In person.
He summoned a hawk and watched it fly away until it looked like a speck of dust in the sky.
He looked over to Sakura and knew his decision was final.

Headcanon: Sarada’s Birth
SS TRAVELS SERIES (06)
“Arghhh!” Sakura groans but in an almost whisper, she has her hands on her stomach. Her forehead was beaded with sweat and she could no longer stand on her own two feet.
Despite being in tremendous pain, Sakura tried her best to keep her voice down. They were still in the middle of the forest, in who knows where, there could be enemies lurking around -- an ambush wouldn’t be out of the question -- but in some way, Sakura hoped for a fight; she wanted to sink her fist into someone’s face, just anything to divert the excruciating pain she was in.
She wasn’t supposed to be due for another week. They were supposed to be at the Leaf by then. Despite it all, Sakura couldn’t contain her smile, seems like their baby was impatient, like her papa. (Sakura was almost a hundred percent sure they were having a girl).
Sasuke gently propped Sakura against a tree. The Uchiha was outwardly quiet but inside his head... it was chaos. He had absolutely no idea what to do. To put it bluntly, Sasuke Uchiha was scared shitless.
He forced himself out of his panicked state and began thinking of solutions. They were still days away from the Leaf, or any village for that matter. Should he make a portal to the Leaf? But would that be safe for the baby? Has that ever been done before? Sasuke felt like his head was about to explode.
“Sasuke-kun, it’s alright. Calm down, sit with me,” Sakura said, tugging on his hand.
Sasuke couldn’t believe Sakura was comforting him when she was the one in labor.
Sakura thought about all the information she read about childbirth long ago, she also tried to remember all the childbirths she assisted on but damn, reading up on it? assisting with it? it is nowhere close to actually experiencing it. Sakura thinks to herself. If contractions were this painful, what more the actual birth? Sakura feels light-headed at the thought.
“Sakura, I-” Sasuke wanted to apologize to her for being so useless at such a crucial moment but just then, the pinkette is hit by another contraction and without meaning to, she squeezes the only thing in her grasp. Unfortunately for Sasuke, it was his hand.
“Arghhhhhhh!” Tears have now pooled on the side of Sakura’s eyes. Sasuke does not breathe, it felt like Sakura broke every bone in his hand.
“I’m sorry, Anata. Did it hurt?” Sakura asks with guilt in her eyes. “No.” Sasuke said, his face never betraying the fact that he was, indeed, in intense pain. But it didn’t matter to him, if he could ease her pain in any way, then he was okay with it. He couldn’t even begin to imagine how much pain she was in.
Just then, Sakura’s hand glowed green above his. The pain he was feeling dissipated in an instant. Sasuke stares at Sakura in disbelief.
“Sakura, don’t waste chakra on me.” Sakura only gives him a smile in return. She closes her eyes and focuses on her breathing.
Sasuke stares at his wife and his heart is filled with warmth. He plants a chaste kiss on her forehead. “I know what to do. Rest,” Sasuke says. He just thought of a place just half an hour away.
Sasuke summons Susanoo.
—
“Sasuke-kun...?” Karin is shocked to see the Uchiha before her. He descended Susanoo, holding a very pregnant Sakura at his side.
“Sakura-” Karin is in complete shock. There were so many questions in her head.
Having heard voices, Suigetsu joins them a few moments later. his expression mirrored Karin’s.
“My wife is in labor. I need your help,” Sasuke says.
Karin and Suigetsu didn’t know they could be more shocked than they already were; Sasuke blatantly asked for help, Sasuke has a wife, Sasuke and Sakura are married, Sasuke’s pregnant wife, Sakura, is in labor. Sakura was about to give birth at Lord Orochimaru’s hideout. An Uchiha is going to be born in said hideout.
A weak-looking Sakura manages to greet the pair. Suigetsu immediately walks over to Sakura and lends his shoulder for support. The medical-nin gives him a small smile of thanks.
“Bring her into the lab!” Karin commands, finally over her initial shock.
--
“Sakura, we don’t have anything for the pain-” Karin says apologetically.
“It’s-it’s okay. Thank you for this, Karin,” Sakura says, out of breath, she just experienced another contraction. Sakura’s face was now as pink as her hair.
“Ahhhh! I can’t watch this,” Suigetsu yelps as he runs over to the farthest corner of the room.
“Idiot! You need to assist me. Get your dumb ass back here,” Karin yells.
“What can I do?” Sasuke says from Sakura’s bedside. The Uchiha looked so lost and helpless, Karin would have laughed if the circumstances had been different.
Sakura looked to Sasuke and gave him a smile, in turn, Sasuke gently strokes Sakura’s cheek with the back of his hand. A silent conversation seemed to ensue between them.
Karin and Suigetsu looked at each other with expressions that said, “is this real?”
“Sasuke-kun, just hold her hand. This is going to be one hell of a ride,” Karin said.
—
Sakura’s eyes glass over the moment she and her baby had skin-to-skin, she was experiencing euphoria she could not explain in words.
“It’s Sarada, Sasuke-kun,” Sakura says, her eyes welling up at this point.
“Ah. Hello, Sarada. I’m your papa,” Sasuke says in an almost whisper.
Sasuke tries to hold Sarada’s hand but his daughter beats him to it, she holds his index finger with her whole hand. A ghost of a smile lingers on her lips as if to saying, “I know.”
Sasuke didn’t realize he could love anything so much. Sasuke didn’t realize he could love Sakura even more. A warm feeling spread across his chest as he watched his wife hold their daughter in her arms.
He wanted this moment, this sight before him, to last forever.
Karin and Suigetsu silently excuse themselves from the room.
“Eh? Karin are you crying?” Suigetsu stares at the redhead with wide eyes. He fumbles his pockets for a handkerchief but finds none. He offers his sleeve instead.
The Uzumaki grabs his sleeve with so much force that Suigetsu almost topples over.
“You’re still not over Sasuke?” Suigetsu teased. Karin shoves him, but only after blowing her nose into his sleeve. Suigetsu’s face breaks into horror.
“It’s not about that, idiot! That was just such a heartwarming scene to witness. That was the happiest I’ve ever seen Sasuke-kun. Kami knows how much that man deserves happiness.”
—
“Are you sure you don’t want to rest up for a few more days, Sakura-chan?” Suigetsu asks Sakura. He gently pokes Sarada’s chubby cheeks. “Kawaii!”
“I’m sure. I feel great,” Sakura says as she snuggles Sarada in her arms.
“I guess it’s goodbye for now, Sarada. Never forget your most good-looking uncle!” Suigetsu makes Sarada laugh and Sasuke can’t help but smile, he’s learned that her laugh is probably his most favorite sound on this Earth.
Sakura hands Sarada to Sasuke who has already mastered carrying his daughter with only one arm. He wouldn’t allow himself to carry her until he’s mastered it. He’s always been careful but that meticulous trait increased ten-fold when it came to his daughter.
Sakura walks over to Karin and engulfs her in a hug, this takes Karin by surprise.
“Thank you so much for everything, this meant the world,” Sakura says. It takes a while for Karin to get over her shock but when she does, she returns the hug.
Sakura also says a word of thanks to Suigetsu, who gives her a thumbs up and toothy grin in return.
Sakura walks back over to Sasuke’s side.
Sasuke looks to his wife then to the pair in front of him. “Thank you,” the Uchiha said. It was only two words but Karin and Suigetsu felt like they were floating on air.
Sakura looks at her husband lovingly. How things have grown, she thought to herself.
With a final goodbye, the Uchiha family took their leave. Suigetsu took his exit the moment they left while Karin lingered a little while longer, she stared at their retreating backs until there was nothing left to stare at.
“I’m happy you found happiness, Sasuke-kun.”

Headcanon: Sakura, Nausea, and Statue Sasuke Pt. 2
SS TRAVELS SERIES (05)
PART 1
—
Sakura woke up from the sunlight hitting her face, she didn’t even open her eyes yet but she already knew Sasuke was not with her. She could tell by his scent or the absence thereof. She found herself pouting, feeling a little upset. She hated it when he left and didn’t say goodbye.
She had to remind herself over and over that he wasn’t going to leave anymore... but still, the fear she’s kept tucked at the deepest part of her heart still gnaws at her.
As she sat up, she could feel her stomach churn, she immediately shot up and ran to a nearby bush.
“Eugh!” She yelled in annoyance. She’s had it with her vomiting spiels.
“It was the damn octopus noodles,” she concluded, thinking of the three bowls she had in one sitting when they were at a seaside village.
At first she thought it was the seasonal flu but she forgot to factor out the food she’s in taken.
It was the best-tasting noodles she had in her life but now she’s paying the price for her gluttony.
She already sent a hawk to Tsunade-sama, begging for some antibiotics or something. They were currently in outlandish parts of the country, which means there was little to no chance to having access to most medicine — maybe there was but at this point, Sakura didn’t want to make a bet on her 50/50 chance. She just wanted to feel better already.
A hawk landed itself by Sakura, Sakura gave it a token as she untangles the scroll on its leg.
“Are you sure it’s just a stomach bug? When was your last menstrual cycle? I’M GOING TO PUMMEL THAT UCHIHA TO THE GROUND!”
Sakura’s eye twitched. Her eyes immediately focusing on the part of the letter that was in all caps. Her Shishou still wasn’t fond of Sasuke and she’d be lying if she said that didn’t bother her. She read the letter again and her eyes widen, she was now comprehending the first part of the letter.
“Shannaro! It can’t be? We were safe... I—“ Sakura’s heart beat quickened
She counted the days it’s been since her last period, she counted in her head and even with her fingers. She counted over and over, her forehead beading with sweat and loud ringing in her ears.
She finds herself on ground. In shock. Her breathing heavy.
Slowly, she looks down on her stomach. Her breathing hitches when she notices a little bump. Tentatively, she touches her stomach.
It was as if the world was at a standstill. Because at that moment Sakura knew.
The medical-nin burst into tears.
—
Sasuke arrives at their campsite, greeted by the sight of Sakura’s tear-stained face. He immediately drops all the things he bought and rushes to her.
“What’s wrong?” He asks, holding her face in his hand, he checks her face and body to see any signs of harm.
He looks around to check for enemies, his hand already on his Katana.
“Sas-Sasuke-kun,” Sakura stutters, hiccuping from all her crying.
He’s never seen her cry this hard since they were children. It was as if his heart was being squeezed. He hugs her close to him. Wanting the pain she felt to disappear.
“Don’t cry, Sakura,” the Uchiha said, the pain in his voice evident
Sakura burst into tears even more as he said this. She didn’t know how she was going to tell him. She didn’t know how he was going to react. What if he didn’t want it?
“What happened?” Sasuke asks her with eyebrows furrowed. Are you hurt? His eyes seemed to ask.
“No, I’m fine,” Sakura said holding her arms out to show she was uninjured. Sasuke let out a sigh of relief and nodded.
“Sasuke-kun, I think I’m pregnant,” Sakura says in a small voice, looking away from Sasuke, feeling her body tremble.
She closed her eyes, not wanting to see his reaction. She was scared to her bones. She was blinded as to how this will end.
Her eyes flutter open as she felt the Uchiha’s soft lips on her forehead.
“Ah. You’ll be a great mother,” Sasuke said in such a gentle voice, Sakura’s heart felt like it was going to burst in happiness.
“So, you’re okay with this?” Sakura asks, looking up at Sasuke with worry.
Sasuke looks to her like she’s just asked the most nonsensical question.
“You’ve given me something I never thought I could have again. A family. There’s no one else for me but you, Sakura. You're the single most important person to me — now our daughter, too,” Sasuke tells Sakura, his eyes intense with emotion. He gives Sakura a gentle smile that he only shows to her.
Sakura pulls him by the collar and hugs him, nuzzling into his neck and taking in his scent.
“What makes you think it’s a girl?” She giggles, sniffing.
“A little Sakura seems... kawaii.”
Sakura shots up “Did Sasuke-kun just say... kawaii?!”

Headcanon: Sakura, Nausea, and Statue Sasuke Pt. 1
SS TRAVELS SERIES (05)
“Wait, Sasuke-kun,” Sakura says as she breathes heavily. She puts a hand to her mouth and immediately runs over to a nearby bush, emptying the contents of her stomach.
Sasuke looks to her in concern, Sakura has been vomiting for several days now. She says it’s the seasonal flu but Sasuke couldn’t help but think of other scenarios, what if she’s been poisoned?
Sasuke begins to walk over to Sakura. “No, stay where you are. The smell is gross.” Sakura says, holding a palm up without looking at the Uchiha.
Sasuke didn’t listen to her plea, he walks over, crouches and holds back her hair which has grown since, it was now up to her waist.
“We should get you checked by a doctor, Sakura,” Sasuke says, concern ringing in his voice.
“I am a doctor though,” Sakura says with a weak smile. She was looking very pale, frail and sickly; something in Sasuke went on high alert. He was worried, very worried.
“Doctors make the worst patients,” Sasuke scolded. He holds Sakura’s elbow as she’s standing to help her with her balance.
“I’m fine, Sasuke-kun. It’s the weather,” Sakura said looking around to justify her case. It was the fall, the temperature was getting chilly.
“We’re done traveling for the day. I’ll set up camp,” Sasuke said, leading Sakura to a nearby tree and letting her lean against the trunk.
“The sun hasn’t even set yet, Sasuke-kun! It’s such wasted travel time.” Sakura pouted, feeling very guilty because she knew Sasuke’s decision to camp early was because of her.
Sasuke looks to her and lifts up her chin with his sole hand. He looks into her dazzling green eyes and leans in, giving her a chaste kiss on the lips.
No other words were spoken between them. Somehow they already know what they other wanted to say.
—-
Sasuke left camp just when the sun broke the following day, he was careful not to wake Sakura, whose head was on his shoulder as they slept.
The Uchiha traveled to the next village the fastest he could. He wanted to be back to their campsite before Sakura woke, plus, he didn’t want to leave her alone for long.
He arrived at a small village just as their market place opened. He immediately went over to a place that sold medicine.
“I need something for nausea,” Sasuke said curtly, not bothering with greetings. He was in a hurry.
“Is it for a man or a lady?” The old woman who ran the shop asked. She noted the beads of sweat glistening on the Uchiha’s forehead. He must’ve ran all the way here, the woman thought.
Sasuke didn’t understand why the shop keeper was asking this question, he didn’t think it was relevant.
“For a woman,” Sasuke answered nonetheless.
“Can you tell me other symptoms she’s experiencing?”
Why is she asking so much questions? he thought. Sasuke stopped himself from getting annoyed because at least the shopkeeper was thorough with handing medicine.
“Fatigue? Cravings? Mood swings? Swollen breasts?”
Sasuke blushed at the last question. He went over these questions in his head and concluded: “Ah.”
“She doesn’t need medicine, young man. She needs to see a doctor immediately.”
“The doctor will still prescribe medicine?” The Uchiha was annoyed now. This shouldn’t have dragged for so long.
“Yes, but only doctors are qualified to prescribe medicine for possibly pregnant women.”
Pregnant? Sasuke froze. It was if he was a statue playing human.
“... er, are you okay?” The old woman asked in concern but she was chuckling. New fathers always had the funniest reactions.
“What do I-what do I do first?” The Uchiha asked, recovering from his shock.

Headcanon: Tomato Cakes & Mud Angels
SS TRAVEL SERIES (04)
“That can’t be good,” Sakura said as she eyed the grey clouds looming above them.
They were still a few hundred miles away from the nearest village, even if they quickened their pace, they still wouldn’t be able to make it before the rainfall.
Sasuke looks up to the sky and agrees. He scanned the forest for any possible shelter.
“Sasuke-kun, there!” Sakura points at a tilted slab of rock that was on top of another, looking like a makeshift roof. It was by a ditch.
They hurried over, the heavy rain already starting to go down.
Sasuke noticed that Sakura was now soaked from head to toe, her coat not as thick as his — it was hardly thick at all, he thought—
The pinkette gave the Uchiha a wide smile. Trying to telepathically tell him that she was fine. Sasuke scoffed, obviously seeing Sakura shiver.
Sasuke draped his own coat over her shoulders. “Thank you, Sasuke-kun,” Sakura says gratefully. Sakura takes off her drenched coat.
She tried not blush at the fact that they virtually had no distance between them.
“You didn’t pack very well,” Sasuke told Sakura whose shivering has died down significantly.
Sakura rolled her eyes. “I did. But someone burnt my good coat to a crisp.” Sasuke felt his cheeks burn.
Just a few days ago they were attacked by these rogue-nins, they barely left a scratch on both Sasuke and Sakura but amidst the fight, Sasuke used his signature fireball. It so happens that Sakura — specifically the tail of her coat was in the line of fire attack.
“Hn, I forgot. Sorry about that,” Sasuke murmured. Sakura chuckles, still not believing that Sasuke could talk like this and to her of all people.
“Wouldn’t it be funny if you blew your birthday candles but instead you accidentally use fireball and you just burn the whole cake?” Sakura says with giggles in between.
It was Sasuke’s turn to roll his eyes. Sakura would come up with the weirdest, out-of-this-world, zero sense questions. It surprised him every single time.
“I don’t like sweets,” Sasuke said in a light tone
“I’ll make you a tomato cake then,” Sakura teases, poking his side. He squirms from her touch.
“Stop it,” he says, Sakura giggles. She’s only just discovered that Sasuke Uchiha was very ticklish.
She pokes him once again out of fun. This earns an annoyed grunt from Sasuke which makes her giggle even more.
“I’ve never seen a tomato cake,” Sasuke said honestly. His ideal cake would be one that wasn’t sweet so he couldn’t visualize how a tomato cake would end up like.
“That’s cause it’s weird, you’re weird,” Sakura said.
“You’re annoying,” Sasuke quips back. This earns a hearty laugh from Sakura, Sasuke can’t help but let out a small smile.
“What if I made you a cake that looked like a giant tomato? Would you eat it then?” Sakura asked, pulling Sasuke’s coat closer to her, now that the rain was at its peak of downpour, the temperature has lowered significantly. The cool breeze didn’t help either.
Sasuke notices this and after a moment’s hesitation, raises his only arm and puts it around Sakura’s shoulders, pulling her closer. The medical-nin gives her former teammate a small smile, a gesture of thanks.
“Make it happen and then we’ll see,” Sasuke says with a smirk.
“I’ll take you on that bet, Sasuke-kun.”
The sound of the pouring rain was music to Sakura’s ears and she found herself yawning, her eyes growing heavy. This was not missed by Sasuke.
“We’ll be here a while,” Sasuke tells Sakura, his very way of saying to tell her it’s fine if she sleeps.
“Ah, wake me up if anything happens, okay?” Sakura mumbles, resting her head on Sasuke’s shoulder.
She was out in an instant. Sasuke found himself staring at her features, her cherry blossom locks, her long eyelashes, her flushed cheeks. He’s never seen someone so beautiful.
While Sakura was asleep, Sasuke got to thinking. He and Sakura never really established what they were, but to Sasuke it’s something unspoken. To him, she was someone irreplaceable. She was special to him. He was afraid to admit he loved her because Love and the Uchiha seemed to never get along well.
Sasuke’s train of thoughts is disturbed by Sakura’s snores. Sasuke chuckles ever so lightly. He might not be allowing himself to love her yet but he knew he was in love with her anyway.
Sakura woke up a half hour after the rain cleared. She opened one eye first then both, she was taken aback by how sunny everything was compared to when she fell asleep.
“Sasuke-kun,” Sakura greeted, still in that hazy state after you just wake up. She sits up.
“Sakura,” Sasuke greets, patting her head, her cherry blossom hair having cow lick.
“How long was I out?” She asks, her disorientation slowly fading away.
“An hour at most.”
“That was a good nap! You should take one, I’ll take watch this time.”
“Yeah, it probably was. You were snoring loudly.” Sasuke said with a blank expression, knowing full well this comment would tick Sakura off.
“I DON’T SNORE!”
“You could hear it from another dimension.”
“Sasuke-kun!” Sakura complains, jabbing his side with her finger, tickling him.
The medical-nin was very pink to the face.
“Oy, stop it.” Sasuke says as he tries to block Sakura’s attempts at tickling him, but it was quite hard given that the space they were in was very small and he was tall.
“I. Don’t. Snore!” Sakura says, poking his side with every word.
They end up in tickling match — well, Sakura was trying to tickle him and he was blocking her. Somehow they managed to steer off and roll down the ditch.
They ended up lying in a muddy pool, getting muddy themselves, Sakura laughing her heart out and Sasuke watching her with a smile playing on his lips.
He picks out a leaf that’s lodged itself into her locks.
Sakura looks at him with a cheery smile. The kind of smile that her eyes disappear. She begins to make “mud angels” as she called them. Flopping like a star fish.
Naturally, Sasuke would feel annoyed that he was covered in mud but for some reason, he didn’t mind... as long as it’s with Sakura.
“Come on, Sasuke-kun!”
“It would be a one-winged angel.” Sasuke says and Sakura’s eyes widen.
“Just flip over to get the other side then?” She jokes and Sasuke scoffs, but in amusement.
“Here, let’s make one together.” Sakura scoots over until their sides are touching and begins to make a mud angel but on one side.
“Tch,” Sasuke says. Sakura grins at him. He proceeds to make the other side.

Headcanon: The Accidental First Kiss
THE SS TRAVELS SERIES (03)
—
“Ahhhh!” Sakura scream with glee as she sets her eyes on the magnificent waterfall in front of her.
For the past two days, the only scene their route of travel provided was trees after trees after trees.
Sakura would have been ecstatic to see even just a pond but she couldn’t believe her lucky stars — she got a whole waterfall!
She closed her eyes and lifted her tired arms from her sides like she was about the embrace the scene before her.
Sasuke watched Sakura and found himself smiling at the sight. It was Sasuke who planned their routes, and he always chooses the fastest ones but maybe he could choose the more scenic route sometimes... He knew it would be illogical but seeing Sakura so happy hit him differently. He told himself he’d consider it.
Sasuke scoured the vicinity and deemed that it was safe they took camp there. He then began setting up.
Sakura takes off her sandals and dips her feet into the water. She immediately felt rejuvenated. The cool water doing wonders for her sore feet.
She turned around to invite Sasuke and realizes he was already setting camp. She jumps to her feet and heads over to help him.
Almost everything was set up, only the tents were left. Sakura breathes in deeply. This was the difficult part.
Sasuke was capable of setting his own tent, but he did so with a little difficulty — something he’d never admit. He was, after all, still getting used to just having one arm.
Sakura has always offered to help him but he always refused. She always let it go and found herself tiptoeing on eggshells because she didn’t want to push it. Sasuke was a proud man.
“Sasuke-kun, let me help with that,” Sakura says, taking hold of the bag that held the tents.
“I’ve got it,” Sasuke said, taking hold of the bag instead. But Sakura doesn’t let go. She felt like it was high time she put her foot down because if she let this one little thing go, it would just evolve to the bigger, more important things in the future.
“I’m with you now, Sasuke-kun. So, let’s help each other,” Sakura told Sasuke, who was looking down at the bag with a disgruntled expression.
A good ten seconds elapsed before Sasuke finally looks up at Sakura and nods.
Sakura did her best to contain her happiness. This was a step. And she knew that he knew it, too.
—
“Sasuke-kun,” Sakura said
Sasuke looks to her, “Ah.” He was roasting the fish they had caught earlier.
“Let’s take a swim,” Sakura said, nodding her heads towards the water. That day was very hot and sunny, it would be perfect if they took a dip. The sun went down about an hour prior so the water would have been even cooler.
Sasuke stayed silent for a little while and Sakura could feel the blush creep onto her cheeks. Did she just get rejected?
“Perfect for sore muscles,” Sakura added, inner Sakura making a facepalm. Sakura didn’t know why she did that, her pride was now diminished to a negative 7.
That until Sasuke spoke up. “Ah.”
—
Sasuke began to strip down, hanging his clothes on a nearby branch. He walked into the water with no qualms.
Sakura felt her face heat up. When she invited him into the water, she didn’t think much of it. She forgot the part that she’d have to strip down to her underwear, too! If it were Naruto or anyone else, she wouldn’t really be this self-conscious but it was Sasuke for crying out loud.
Too late to back out now. She begins to take her clothes off and heads to the water as well.
She shivers, her body slowly adjusting to the cool temperature.
Sasuke was floating on his back, watching the full moon with his mismatched eyes.
She wishes he would look like this forever — peaceful.
“Want to play a game?” Sakura asked Sasuke who got back on his feet.
“Naruto and I used to have this stupid contest on who could hold their breath the longest,” Sakura explained
“No using of any special jutsu or anything like that.”
Sasuke thought, why not. He swims over to her until they were face to face.
“Count of three,” Sakura said, counting backward
And then they go underwater.
—
Sasuke was counting in his head. 3 minutes and 7 seconds.
Sakura was doing well for herself when she felt something slither around her ankles.
She claws her way up to the surface in panic.
“There’s something in the water!” Sakura yelled, her chest heaving up and down quickly.
She turns her head and looks around for whatever the culprit was, which was in fact, difficult to do with it being night time and all.
As she turns her head back around, she felt something brush against her lips. She’s paralyzed in shock.
It takes a few seconds for Sakura to assess the situation.
In the heat of it all, she found herself accidentally clinging onto Sasuke and there was virtually no distance between them. Their faces less than a quarter of an inch away.
Her arms were wrapped around his shoulders, her legs wrapped around his torso. His arm around her waist (in what she believed to be a reflex action).
“Shannaro....!” She yells, immediately untangling herself from the Uchiha.
She covers her face with both her hands in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry, Sasuke-kun! I panicked!” She wades her way out of the water. Not caring about whatever slimy creature was there in the water. She was far too embarrassed to care.
Sasuke looks at her retreating figure and blinks, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. The raven-haired ninja was also in shock. His whole body tingling with electricity.
He submerges into the water again, feeling the heat of the moment, glad that the water was ice old.

Headcanon: The Day Sakura Joins Sasuke
THE SS TRAVELS SERIES (01)
He felt guilty for letting her come with him. He was basically putting Sakura in harm’s way.
He didn’t even need to voice this out though, because Sakura took one look at him and she read him like an open book. Sakura could feel the Uchiha’s hesitance each step they were taking, away from Konoha’s gates,
“I know the dangers a mission implicates, Sasuke-kun. And I can take it. I’m a kunoichi, you know,” She tells him sassily, with a hand on her hip.
This stunned Sasuke. She never spoke to him like this before, she’s changed. A good change. Sasuke needed to remind himself that she didn’t need him to save her. That punch during the war spoke for itself.
“Ah,” he said. He still had thoughts bugging him at the back of his mind but he didn’t really know how to stir a conversation.
Sakura sighs and stops walking. This causes Sasuke to stop in his steps as well.
“Do you want me to come with you or not?” Sakura asked, looking Sasuke straight in the eyes with such ferocity. Sasuke got a feeling in his stomach that was foreign to him.
“Ye-” Sasuke begins to say before she cuts him off.
“Then act like it. If you’ve got something to say then spit it out,” Sakura said with a raised eyebrow.
If Sasuke wasn’t so impressed, he’d be a little intimidated. He has always known about Sakura’s temper but it was always directed at Naruto and not him. Sasuke’s face remains expressionless, the gears in his mind trying to formulate a strategy -- what words to say.
“It’s uncomfortable. We might have to camp in the forest when there are no inns, and that’s a lot of the time. It gets hot, it gets cold. It’s not going to be a comfy journey in the least,” Sasuke says, not really looking at Sakura but instead a nearby tree. He didn’t expect himself to word vomit.
Sakura laughs and this once again catches Sasuke off-guard. She was mad just now? But not anymore? Sasuke questioned in his head, not certain how to go about with the situation.
“You think I don’t know that? What do you think I packed for? A vacation?” Sakura shakes her head and walks ahead of him -- but only because she was hiding the blush that has crept onto her cheeks when she realized, Sasuke Uchiha was actually worried — it was a subtle but sweet gesture that made her heart beat like crazy.

Headcanon: Sakura’s Mad... Sasuke Fears For His Life
A/N: Sasuke forgets to defrost the chicken. Sakura’s had a long day. The rest is history.
—
“Thanks for today, papa,” Sarada said, she and Sasuke were walking home from the training grounds.
“Ah. You’ve greatly improved on your lightning style,” Sasuke said, giving his daughter a soft smile.
Sarada beamed. She knew her papa didn’t pay compliments often and so when he did, it really meant a lot.
“I’m starving! I wonder what mama’s going to cook—” Sarada said as they entered their home. This is when she noticed her papa frozen in place.
“Neh, papa what’s wrong?” Her father still had his hand on the door handle. He was holding onto it so tight, Sarada was afraid it would come off from the door.
Sarada went on high alert, checking their home for any intruders or any signs their home has been tampered but it looked... normal. Sarada put her hand on her hip. Papa’s being weird again.
Sasuke turned his mismatched eyes to their wall clock — 5:59 PM.
“What time does your mama come home again?” He remembered Sakura telling him she’d be home by 6 but he was hoping, really hoping, he was wrong.
“6:30,” Sarada said, her head tilting to the side, jogging her memory.
Sasuke let out a breath of relief, finally letting go of the handle, which Sarada noted, had a little dent from his grip.
Shannaro...! her parents were surely not getting the security deposit back. Sarada shakes her head.
“Oh wait. She said 6. She said it on the last minute before she left for work,” Sarada corrected herself, already lounging on the couch and stretching her tired muscles.
Sasuke pales. He ran to the kitchen with such speed, the flower vase on the living room table almost fell over. Thankfully Sarada caught them in time. Sarada looked at her father accusingly, it was a gift from auntie Ino and if had broken, Sakura would have been pissed.
Sarada went to the kitchen and tried to see why her father was acting so rashly.
“Oh no,” Sarada said as she watched her father frantically grab a whole frozen chicken from the freezer and dump in the sink, turning the tap on with a force — that surprised Sarada — didn’t make it snap.
Her father, the nanadaime’s rival, one of the greatest shinobi in the world, forgot to defrost the chicken his wife told him to and he was in distress... Sarada has never seen her papa panic.
Sasuke senses Sakura’s chakra.
“Distract your mama,” Sasuke looks at Sarada who’s looking at him like he’s grown two heads.
“Neh?!” At this point, Sarada has both her hands on her hips, a reprimanding stance that mirrored Sakura. Sarada couldn’t believe Sasuke wouldn’t just take responsibility for his mistake.
“It’s a good time to practice your Genjutsu...?” Sasuke couldn’t even believe the words he’s said. He looked down at the chicken which was still rock hard and he also noted that Sakura was drawing nearer and nearer.
“And what? Trick mama into thinking the chicken’s defrosted? Shannaro, papa,” Sarada said.
He’s spending way too much time with that baka Boruto to think of such antics, Sarada thought to herself.
Sasuke shook his head. As if Sakura couldn’t see past Genjutsu. Think, he scolded himself. The front door opens.
“Tadaima!” Sakura says. But it wasn’t her normal cheery voice — it was laced with annoyance that she tried to cover. Sasuke and Sarada were too perceptive not to notice.
The young Uchiha bolts to the door and intercepts her mother.
“You’re home. How was work?” Sarada asked, taking her mama’s coat and hanging it for her.
Immediately the calm façade Sakura was putting on slipped away in the confines of her home.
“Shannaro! Some people really think medical professionals are their personal maids! You’d think they’d be considerate that we —” Sakura shouted, her hands in fists. In the fury of her anger, she slams the door with more force than necessary, much more force.... Sarada cringed as she noticed one of the hinges come off.
You can really tell this apartment was Sasuke and Sakura Uchiha’s.
Sasuke hears this exchange and actually flinches as he hears the door slam. Not because of the sound, but because Sakura was in a bad mood.
“Where’s your papa?” Sakura asked, rubbing her hands on her temples. She just had a very, very chaotic 18-hour shift, she was walking on very thin ice — any other thing that goes wrong will just cause her to combust.
“In the kitchen,” Sarada said, not so confidently. She sent a quiet prayer for her father.
Sasuke acted quickly and without thought. Who wouldn’t? His wife could break a man’s skull with her pinky... when she was calm. Kami, what more if she was angry...
“SASUKE!!!” Sakura yelled. Her husband seemed to have used the fireball jutsu in their kitchen! How could she tell? Their kitchen walls were now covered in soot!
Sarada watched the scene with a pokerface. “Baka papa,” she slapped a hand over her face in sheer embarrassment.
“You said defrost...” Sasuke said, timidly standing by the sink and holding the chicken by its leg.
“And you gathered that I meant by Ninjutsu?!” Sakura fumed.
This was the time Sarada thought it was best to leave. She moonwalked out of the kitchen as stealthy as she could. “Good luck, papa. Yikes.”
Sasuke looked down in defeat. Finally confessing that he forgot.
“It was fine that you forgot! But using fireball? In the kitchen?!”
“You wanted to roast it anyway,” Sasuke said in a small voice.
“Roast? You call that roast? That’s f*cking cremated!”
Althought the screams were alarming and a tad bit terrifiying, Sarada couldn’t help but giggle. Her dad was hopeless when it came to her mama. He panicked, he blushed, it’s like he forgets how to function.
“Papa can be cute sometimes,” Sarada says to herself, in the confines of her bedroom. She was perfectly content with the new ninjutsu book she reading, away from the wrath of her mother.
Sarada chuckles.
—
(Earlier that day)
When Sakura got out of bed, Sasuke notices. He sits up and looks at his wife in question. She was really early, he usually woke up first. The sun wasn’t even up yet. He decided to get ready and wash up as well.
“I have to be at the hospital early today,” Sakura explained.
She sits on his lap and wraps her arms around his shoulders.
He nuzzles his head into her neck. And then they end up kissing. A lot.
Sakura reminds him about dinner as she leaves a trail of kisses on his neck.
Sasuke heard but wasn’t paying attention. He’d rather they didn’t talk and did something else instead. He captures her mouth with his.

Headcanon: “Sasuke Uchiha Jealous? No way.”
A/N: Wherein dinner between friends end up with a game of Truth or Dare, aided by a bottle of Sake.
—
Sakura let out a sigh of relief as she finally reached her office. Three surgeries within the day, plus hospital rounds! She was beat.
She reported for hospital duty at 5 AM and now, if the sky were any indication, she guessed it would be sundown soon.
As she closed her door, she realized there was someone in her office. She recognized him right away.
“Anata,” she said softly. Just seeing him made her feel a whole lot better. Sasuke stood up to greet her, it took no more than three strides for him to get to her.
Almost instinctually, Sakura wrapped her arms around his torso. With his one hand, Sasuke returns his wife’s embrace, pulling her close to his chest.
“When did you arrive? It’s a shame, you just missed Sarada, she was assigned on a mission.”
“Ah. I heard. I’ll still be here when she gets back,” Sasuke said, leading his wife to the couch she had in her office.
He had noticed how depleted of energy she was the moment she entered the office. He knew his wife would just give him an earful if he told her to stop working too hard, so he did the next best thing: subtly get her to rest.
“Oh? How long can you stay?” Sakura asked. She was leaning on his shoulder as she drew circles on the palm of his hand.
“4 days. 5 at most,” he said. He leaned his head on hers. She smelled like strawberries and isopropyl alcohol, a smell Sasuke has come to love because well, it was Sakura.
They sat there in silence, just being with each other was enough. They felt at ease, content.
“Sakura, the dobe told me something about a dinner tonight,” Sasuke said. His wife was about to drift into sleep but he didn’t want her to skip her meals, tired as she was.
Sakura’s eyes suddenly popped open and she jumped in panic. “WAIT— isn’t the dinner on the 13th?”
“It is the 13th today,” Sasuke said, his eyebrows furrowed.
“No, that can’t be? I’m certain today still has to be the 12th,” Sakura goes over to her table, which was cluttered with paperwork.
She still had to tackle a tower’s worth. She grabbed the file, the most recent, on top and read the date on it.
13th.
“Shannaro...!” Sakura exclaimed weakly. She thought it was an extra long day at the hospital, turns out she’d been here for two days.
Sakura plopped back onto the couch, not even bothering to prop herself up properly. She felt disoriented.
“Sakura, don’t tell me you’ve been here for days and didn’t even know it,” Sasuke said in an icy voice.
Sakura gulped and scratched her head sheepishly. “Want me to make you your favorite tomato soup later?” Sakura said with a grin, attempting to deflect her husband’s reprimanding glare.
Sasuke shook his head at his wife’s attempt. “You’re annoying,” he said, but a small smile escapes.
Sakura couldn’t help but giggle. “Shall we, Anata?” Sakura said, standing up and holding her hand out.
Sasuke takes her hand. “Ah.”
—
“No.” Sasuke was watching his wife make bad decisions.
Sakura groaned in annoyance. She and Sasuke stopped over at the supermarket to buy something for the dinner, which was going to be at Sai and Ino’s home.
Sakura thought it would be a good idea to bring sake.
Aw, c’mon, Anata. I bet the rest already bought meat and whatever else for the potluck. We’ll need drinks.”
“Last time there was Sake, you and Naruto took turns puking on me,” Sasuke said with no fondness of the memory.
“That Baka Naruto thought he could beat me in a drinking contest! I had to fight for my honor, Anata!” Sakura said, but slightly blushing because she didn’t realize Sasuke remembered — but of course he did.
Naruto thought it would be a good idea to have a Team 7 reunion. It ended up with Kakashi bailing when Naruto was puking into a water fountain and Sakura passed out on the ground, on the small crater she accidentally made when she tried to save herself mid-fall. Sasuke was left to babysit the usuratonkachi and his darling, drunk wife — who told him “I can hold a drink, I’m not weak!”
“No.” Sasuke said with finality. Sakura pouted but Sasuke didn’t let her have her way. When her back was turned, Sasuke let out a little smile.
They ended up buying meat.
—
Sasuke and Sakura got to their home around 6:40 PM, the dinner was not for another 50 minutes or so; they still had time to bathe and get changed. Sakura showered first.
Sasuke thought his wife would be ready by the time he got out of the shower but when he does, he’s greeted by the sight of his wife, sitting on the foot of their bed, snoring.
She was clutching onto two dresses, still on their hangers: the first was white with cherry print, and the second a plain navy blue.
Sasuke couldn’t help but snort. His wife always insisted that “I don’t snore, Sasuke-kun. Shut up!” Sasuke used to have a hard time sleeping because of her snoring but now he’s quite fond of it, it made him feel easy, it was a way to know she was there. He still teased her for it though.
“Sakura,” Sasuke gently prodded, poking her forehead. Sakura opened her eyes slowly and immediately turned red in the face.
“Why are you so close!” She jumped back in shock. Sasuke’s face was only an inch away from hers. She knew it was so stupid for her to shy away from her husband but she still very much had a crush on him.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, quite amused. He gently pats her head and says, “navy blue,” as he walks out of their bedroom.
“Shannaro! You’re so annoying!” Sakura throws her shower slipper at his retreating back. Sasuke smiles to himself. Sakura was so fun to tease.
Sakura was left in their room, her face heating up to what seemed to be a thousand degrees.
—
Sakura walks out their bedroom and Sasuke’s eyes are immediately drawn to her. The dress fell gracefully on her curves, the dress stopping just a little above her knees. She was also wearing the necklace Sasuke got her; a dainty little thing, an Uchiha fan pendant.
His wife looked gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Sasuke looked away, feeling a little embarrassed that he was staring a little too intently.
Sakura couldn’t help contain her smile. Her husband looked so handsome in his black button down. He could make such simple clothing look magnificent. She went over to him and gently combed her fingers through his hair to fix it. It was sticking out a little, reminding her of his porcupine hairstyle back in the day. Her heart swelled with nostalgia.
“Ready now?” She asked. “I wasn’t the one snoring,” Sasuke said with a smirk. Sakura’s smile turned into a pokerface. She knew it wasn’t something Sasuke would lie about be she swears, she doesn’t snore!
While Sakura went over the checklist in her head, Sasuke was already by their doorway, wearing his footwear.
“All appliances turned off, stove is turned off, all faucets closed properly, the meat, house keys, wait where are the house keys?” She thought out loud.
She went back into the bedroom and found them on their dresser. This is when Sasuke noticed something about her dress. His eyes widened a fraction. He didn’t realize the dress had been backless.
“Got them!” Sakura exclaimed, ready to go. “What about your coat?” Sasuke asked. He felt himself grow a little overprotective and this annoyed him. But outwardly, he looked like his normal expressionless face.
“It’s a short travel. It’s fine,” Sakura said, not noticing what Sasuke actually meant.
“Ah,” was all Sasuke could say. It was logical, he pushed his overbearing thoughts aside. He did choose the dress after all.
—
The walk to Ino and Sai’s, even if it was only 20 minutes away, felt long to Sasuke. They had taken a shortcut, through the town square. So naturally, there were lots of people.
A lot of them recognized the pair, Sakura would greet them back and Sasuke would just nod in recognition. Sakura noticed the slight shift in her husband’s mood — she guessed it was because he wasn’t a fan of crowded place. She didn’t think much of it.
Sasuke noticed men were gawking at his wife. Sakura, enveloped in conversation, didn’t notice this.
Sasuke didn’t know if these men were openly doing it or they were just doing a poor job at hiding it.
Suffice to say, this put Sasuke in an off-putting mood. Sasuke moved from walking beside his wife to walking in front of her. Without realizing it, Sasuke had begun glaring at the men, who immediately avertered their sights in fear of the Uchiha patriarch.
Sakura noticed that Sasuke was walking ahead of her now. He always did walk too damn fast for her, much to her annoyance. He was 6 foot 2 and she was a mere 5 foot 4. Sakura took this as Sasuke getting impatient with their pace.
“Anata,” she whined in a small voice, he caught this. One look at her and Sasuke knew. She’s always complained about him walking too fast, “little legs here!” It was one of their squabbles back when they were traveling together.
Sasuke wordlessly went back to his place, by her side. What was the point of backless clothing anyway? It serves no purpose. Stupid, he complained in his head.
—
“Sakura-chan! Sasuke!” Naruto drawled as he watched his two best friends enter the house.
Naruto went in to hug them but only Sakura returned it, Sasuke stepped out of the hug in his lightning speed fashion. Sakura couldn’t help but laugh.
“Hi, Hinata! How’s Hima?” Hinata had brought Himawari to Sakura a few days ago because she had a fever.
Sasuke took the available seat which was next to Naruto, who already began to talk his ear off. Sasuke sighed.
“She’s doing better now. I think Naruto and Boruto annoyed her into feeling better!” Hinata chuckles.
“Forehead! I haven’t seen you in forever. I thought you wouldn’t ever leave your hospital cave!” Ino went in for a hug, with Sai tailing behind her.
“Wow, you don’t look ugly today, ugly,” Sai says, this earns him a punch from Sakura.
Sasuke used to be displeased whenever Sai called Sakura ugly. But he’s come to realize it was just banter between two friends now. If he didn’t know about Sakura and Sai’s friendship dynamic, Sasuke would have been livid over anyone disrespecting his wife.
“Sasuke-kun! When did you get back?” Ino asked in excitement. It was always a treat to have Sasuke over at one of their gatherings since it was quite rare.
“Hey, what about me!” Naruto complained, pointing at himself. Ino waved him off.
“Nevermind you, I’m so sick of your face!” Everyone, except Sasuke who just gave an amused smirk, at the table bursts into laughter. Because he was Hokage, Naruto’s face was everywhere.
Temari and Shikamaru enter the home.
“Sorry, we’re late. Some people are such a drag,” Temari says sarcastically. Giving her husband a dirty look.
Shikamaru smiles sheepishly. He got carried away with a game of Shogi with Shikadai. Mendokusē, he thinks. “Hi, everyone,” he greets.
(They began catching up and chattering about. This is when Kiba arrives with Shino.)
“We got the goods!” Kiba yells, raising up a case-full of bottles of sake.
“I tried my best to stop this. My apologies,” Shino says.
Naruto, Sakura, Temari, and Ino clap animatedly. The rest, not that excited for what was to come.
—
They still had a bit of food left, which no one was surprised of. Choji couldn’t come so they were bound to have extra food.
“I apologize, I have to head out first. I have an early class to teach tomorrow,” Shino said.
“Stay for a little while, Shino! We rarely get together like this,” Naruto said, but also aware he had a ton of work to do at the Hokage’s office.
Shikamaru chuckles because he’s just read Naruto’s mind. There was more paper in Naruto’s office than actual furniture. The adult life was really something.
“Honestly, when it’s past 9, I already get sleepy,” Shino shyly admitted.
“Oh boy, we’re getting old,” Temari says, amused. She could relate.
“Not me! I’m still so youthful!” Naruto exclaimed, still the only one chowing down on the food. Hinata stared at him adoringly, Sasuke and Sakura shook their head. He was still such a messy eater.
“Can’t believe this idiot is the Hokage,” Sakura and Sasuke thought in unison, they look at each other as if to see if they were thinking the same, and one look from each other and they knew. Sakura giggles and Sasuke hides his smile as he drinks water from his cup. Ino notices this exchange.
“You guys are so cute!” Ino expresses in glee. Sakura blushes and Sasuke pretends not to hear.
“Don’t leave, Shino! I’ll be outnumbered by the couples!”
Shino looked at Kiba blankly. “You already are. They came in pairs, you are single. Akamaru doesn’t count.”
“Hey!”
“That’s because you don’t get sleep, Naruto,” Shikamaru chimes in.
“That’s because I don’t need it. Sleep is for the weak ‘ttebayo!” Naruto shouts with pride. He flings his chopsticks in the air as he does this, this causes grains of rice to fly.
“Naruto-kun!” Hinata scolds, Naruto realizes the mess he’s made and sheepishly apologizes. “Sorry, dear! Hehe.”
“Why are you apologizing to her? I’m the one who’s gonna have to clean up,” Sai deadpanned. This earns a collective laughter.
“You’ve trained him well, Ino!” Temari howled in laughter.
“Hey, I help around the house, too,” Shikamaru piped in. Temari rolled her eyes at her husband playfully.
“What can I say? He’s helpful and cute,” Ino said, patting Sai on the cheek affectionately. This makes Sai smile.
The rest of them made puking noises. “Should we leave?” Kiba asked jokingly.
—
“Let’s play a game!” Kiba says, hauling the case of sake onto the table.
The lot of them beamed in excitement, except Hinata, Sasuke, and Shikamaru.
Temari rolls her sleeves up her elbows and Shikamaru visibly gulps. “Mendokusē. I already foresee the disaster,” Shikamaru said, scratching his head. Sasuke and Hinata shared Shikamaru’s sentiments. They didn’t need their kekkei genkai to see this was indeed going to be disastrous.
“Let’s get this party started dattebayo!” Naruto claps excitedly. He produced shadow clones to help set the dishes aside.
“If you puke on the floors, I will personally use you as a mop to clean it up,” Sai told Naruto with a smile. Ino bursts into laughter, she knew well enough that Sai was serious — they just had their floors done and Sai was borderline obsessed with keeping them spotless.
“Me? Puke? As if. I can take my drink, unlike some people,” Naruto said the last bit in a whisper.
“Excuse me, what was that?” Sakura piped in, feeling her competitive side pique.
“Don’t provoke her, idiot,” Sasuke said. He still remembered the shock he felt when he found out Sakura accidentally reduced their home into rubble.
“You’re so biased, Sasuke!” Naruto exclaimed, childishly.
“It’s just facts, Naruto-kun. I can take a drink better than you,” Sakura said with a confident smile.
“It’s true. Women can take alcohol better,” Ino piped in and the rest of the kunoichi agreed.
“Ohoy! Is that a challenge?” Naruto exclaimed. “That’s just not concrete fact,” Shikamaru added.
“So I suppose we have to see. You ladies vs us men?” Sai said
“Let’s go!” Naruto cheered.
“This’ll be easy,” Sakura said, cracking her knuckles. She went over to the other side of the table, along with Hinata. They switched places with Shikamaru and Sai.
Naruto noticed Sasuke didn’t show any indication that he was up for the game — which by all honesty, wasn’t out of character.
“Hey, Sasuke. C’mon!” Sasuke looked at him and shrugged, “my wife’s not weak.”
Sure, Sakura could get into such a drunken state but Sasuke knew she was much tolerant to alcohol than Naruto.
Sasuke’s comment earned hollers from the men and gushing from the women, Sakura looked down at the table, blushing at her husband’s compliment.
“So whipped -ttebayo!”
(28 bottles of sake later...)
Only Sasuke, Shikamaru, and Hinata were sober. Sakura was walking the fine line of being drunk & being tipsy. The rest were outright drunk.
Naruto found his way over to Hinata, plopping himself beside her. He then began poking her cheek. “Hinata-chaaaan,” he drawled.
“What?” She asked her clearly drunk husband. “Hi!” At first Hinata found it cute, but at the 11th time he did it, she smacked him off the bench they were sitting on.
Shino and Kiba somehow thought it would be a good idea to play Tag. They ran to the Yamanakas’ backyard with loud chuckles. The both of them couldn’t agree on who would be ‘it’. In the end, they decided they’d let there shadows chase them. It made no sense but in a drunken thinkinf, it was the best idea ever.
Sai decided to play some music on “Karaoke!” He yelled, he was now standing on top of the table. Sai, Ino, and Temari began singing their lungs out and swaying to the music.
“You sound so good!” Temari told Ino, who then replied, “You do, too!” the kunoichis then high fived.
But in reality: Temari was out of tune and Ino was out of sync. Sai, dancing on the table didn’t match the song’s rhythm one bit.
Sakura was the only one who was still drinking. She chugged two whole bottles all by herself and then some. She was currently finishing up the 29th bottle they had.
“Shannaro! How can you guys be such weakshits!” She giggled, raising the bottle in the air like it was a trophy. Sasuke decided it was nearly her drinking limit — if her pink cheeks were any indication.
Swiftly and quietly as he could, he took the last bottle of sake and hid it. At this point, he’s moved seats and is now sitting next to his wife.
He was holding her head up because it would lull back and forth, ever so slightly, every now and then. Her exhaustion plus alcohol intake taking its toll.
“A-anata. Where’s the last bottle? I’m going to win this!” Sakura hiccuped, now resting her head on her husband’s shoulder.
“It’s gone,” Sasuke said, he technically wasn’t lying. Sasuke was a little relieved that Sakura still had some of bearings, she was still aware of her surroundings.
“Oy! You kids come back here,” Shikamaru yelled at Shino and Kiba. Who to his surprise, listened, he guessed following orders was basically a reflex action for ninjas.
The rest of the drunk people followed suit. When Kiba reached the table, he eyed the bottle that was in Sakura’s hand, thinking it still had some contents in it.
“Awww,” Kiba whined when he realized Sakura had emptied it.
Sakura sees Kiba’s sad expression. “Don’f be sad!” She stands up, and gets dizzy by the suddeness. Both Sasuke and Kiba hold her to keep her from falling. Sasuke gets a tad annoyed. He can take care of his own wife.
“Don’t be sad! C’mon let’s dance!” Sakura told Kiba. Sakura was naturally compassionate person and it heightened whenever she had alcohol in her. She could see a dog in the rain and she’d cry for a straight hour.
Sakura takes hold of Kiba’s hand and they join Sai. Kiba forgets about the sake and gets lost in the frenzy of the music.
Sasuke notices all of this, his annoyance growing. He watched as Kiba and Sai put their arms around Sakura as the three of them jumped in glee to the music.
He was pleased that Sakura was enjoying himself but Kiba and Sai could enjoy themselves, at least a feet away from Sakura, too, he thought to himself.
“You lot settle down, come back to the table,” Hinata said gently, the three of them obediently followed.
When Sakura came back to sit next to him, he tugs at her hand from under the table, inconspicuosly pulling her closer to him.
“Truth or dare! We have empty bottles to spin now!” Kiba exclaimed, taking one from the pile that’s accumulated from the floor.
“Yes, twenty-nine to be exact,” Shino said, counting the bottles, swaying at his step.
“Sasuke-kun! See? Missing one!” Sakura whined.
“Shh, that’s enough,” Sasuke whispered in her ear. Sakura pouted and rested her head back on her husband’s shoulder.
Kiba spun the bottle and it landed on Temari.
“Okay, Truth or da-“
“Dare!” Temari slams the table and stands up as she yells this.
“I dare you to tell us the most embarrassing memory you have with Shikamaru!” Kiba chuckles
“Oy!” Shikamaru complained, his wife was incredibly blunt when intoxicated. He tugs at her sleeve to get her to sit back down. She ends up sitting on his lap, she was too drunk to feel embarrassed about it.
“This idiot brought me to a hotel for what I thought was our first date! I thought he was some kinda pimp! Turns out he was asking me to help choose a gift for your wedding!” Temari says with a laugh, pointing at Naruto and Hinata.
Naruto was half passed out cold, resting his head on Hinata’s shoulder, his mouth wide open, drooling. Hinata laughs, mainly because Shikamaru has turned three shades of red.
“Mendokusē,” he groans. “Pimp!” Temari teases him.
Temari spins the bottle with such force that it teeters off the table. Shino retrieves another bottle. “Good thing we have a lot of spare.”
This time the bottle lands on Sakura. “Dare!” She says with energy but her heavy eyes say otherwise
“Was there a time you got horribly jealous?” Ino asked, her arm around Sai, who was still animatedly dancing in his seat.
Sakura chuckles and hides her face in Sasuke’s shoulder.
He smells so nice, Sakura thought. Sasuke didn’t show it but he wanted to hear her answer.
“Well, when we were traveling, there was this inn keeper who openly flirted with Sasuke,” Sakura said, wearing a bitter smile on her lips.
Sasuke didn’t recall any inn keeper. He looks down at his wife with raised eyebrows.
“She asked you out for dinner while I was right beside you, Sasuke-kun!” Sakura exclaimed.
“You can be so dense sometimes, Anata. Good thing you’re so cute,” Sakura giggles, pinching Sasuke’s cheeks.
“Woah!” The group was so shocked at the scene before them.
Sasuke Uchiha, one of the deadliest ninjas in the world was just called... cute and had his cheeks pinched... and he let it happen.
Even Naruto sobered up a little due to shock.
Sasuke was paralyzed, his face heating up. To make matters worse, Sakura gives him a smack right on the lips.
“Cutie Sasuke-kuuuuun!” Drunk Sakura drawled. Very unaware of the fact that her husband’s turned into the very shade of a tomato.
“I really am drunk, did that actually happen dattebayo?” Naruto asked, looking around if anything he was seeing was actually real.
Luckily for Sasuke, Kiba pukes at that moment — diverting the attention.
“NO!” Sai leaps to his feet.
From there, the dinner took an official close. “Don’t worry, they’re all too drunk to remember this,” Shikamaru told Sasuke who was looking at his smiling albeit drunk wife with a facepalm.
Hinata made a zipping motion across her lips, indicating, what happened would be kept secret. Sasuke nodded in thanks.
“What about you, Sasuke-kun? Do you ever get jealous?” Ino asks, face on the table, clearly dizzy.
Before Sasuke could formulate an answer, Sakura beats him to it. “Sasuke Uchiha jealous? No way!”
Sasuke scoffs.

Headcanon: Sasuke’s Secret Little Breaks
Sasuke was determined to atone for his sins. To him, doing well in his mission was set in stone. But set as he was, there were two people he secretly bent his rules for.
Sasuke would occassionally need to go back to Konoha to submit his reports, the ones that were too confidential to send via hawk.
All that needed to be done was report to the Hokage and he should be back on track with his mission — it took no longer than half an hour, just a quarter of that even — but occassionally, Sasuke took uncharted detours.
Sasuke would see how his wife was doing in the hospital. A tinge of worry settles in his stomach whenever he notices Sakura has had too little to sleep or too little to eat but he shakes this thought off. His wife was more than capable, and he knew that through and through.
Sasuke would watch Sarada hone her skills at the training grounds — which she was always at. Sasuke couldn’t help but smile at this, he was already so proud of her, for what she is and for what she will become. Sasuke knew Sarada was on the road to greatness.
Sasuke never makes his presence known and is never too near, just close enough so he wouldn’t feel the tempt to just throw the mission and stay. Leaving his wife and child and the home they’ve built together was already hard enough, he didn’t need to make it harder.
Sasuke knew it was selfish to take these secret little breaks and in some way, it felt like he was cheating his mission but really, he didn’t feel guilty or regret it, not one bit.

Headcanon: “Tadaima.”
A/N: This is during Sasuke’s brief stay at Konoha just as Sarada’s Chūnin exams were on-going. I found the scene very cute but brief so I decided to prolong it a bit with some good ol’ imagination.
Timeline reference point: Episode 54, Boruto series.
(Doorbell rings)
“Wonder who that could be?” Sakura wondered out loud as she dried her hands on her cherry blossom apron; she had just been washing the dishes while Sarada was drying them with a towel.
“I’ll get it, mama,” Sarada volunteered. Sakura smiled as she stared at her daughter’s retreating back. She felt proud and grateful for such a well-mannered child, she couldn’t have asked for a better daughter.
“Hai!” Sarada exclaimed as she swung the front door open.
When Sarada opened the door, she was shocked, to say the least. She just stood there and stared at him in disbelief. They were in a standstill for about three seconds when Sakura came to view.
“What’s the matter?” Sakura asked her daughter. She had heard her gasp in surprise all the way from the kitchen.
Sakura averted her eyes to the culprit of her daughter’s shock. This led to her own shock. Standing a few feet from her, in the flesh, was her husband -- Sasuke Uchiha.
“Sa...Sa...!” Uchiha Sakura stuttered. A million emotions rushed through her in a second; happiness, excitement, shock. All these overwhelming emotions got to the best of her and she found herself losing consciousness.
Shannaro...! Inner Sakura yelled.
Sasuke set down his wife on the couch, he did so quite easily despite having one arm. He knelt before his wife as their daughter fetched some warm water and towel to aid her mama.
Sakura was still muttering his name in her sleep, much to Sasuke’s amusement. This earned a small smile from Sasuke.
Sakura, who can create craters with her bare fists, faints at the sight of her own husband.
A stray hair falls over Sakura’s face and Sasuke gently tucks it behind her ear; a wisp of a touch.
“Shannaro, mama,” Sarada exclaims as she enters the living room. “You don’t have to collapse just because papa comes home unexpectedly...” Sarada said, talking to her unconscious mom. Sasuke moves to give her way but retains his previous position by Sakura.
“How long can you stay this time?” Sarada directs this to her father knelt beside her.
“Until your Chūnin exams are over,” Sasuke replied. This brings joy to Sarada. Her papa will be in Konoha for a few days at most. She has been contemplating on asking her papa to teach her some ninja techniques.
“I just met Naruto’s son earlier,” Sasuke said “Boruto?” “He said he wants to be my student.”
Sarada was surprised, that baka Boruto rarely asked for help. She was, in a way, impressed but at the same time Sarada felt a twinge of disappointment; she was hoping she and her dad would spend some quality time together.
“I see,” Sarada replied, not showing much emotion.
On the other hand, Sasuke was replaying his earlier encounter with Boruto. He could see a shadow of his former self in Naruto’s son, and this worried him slightly.
“Sasuke-kun!” An unconscious Sakura exclaimed. The atmosphere immediately lost its seriousness.
Sarada chuckled and this and although seemingly expressionless, Sasuke gazed at his wife with fondness.
“Have you eaten, papa?” Sarada asked her father. She and Sakura had just finished eating dinner but there was still some food left; she figured she could warm it for her papa.
“Ah, I have. I’ll bring your mama to the bed so she can sleep properly,” Sasuke said.
“Alright. Goodnight, papa.”
“Goodnight.”
(the following morning)
Sakura woke up to the sound of clattering pots and the smell of food wafting from the kitchen.
She had a dream that her Sasuke-kun came home out of nowhere. Sakura sat up and a towel from her forehead fell on her lap. Shannaro! It wasn’t a dream.
Sakura eyed her bedroom for any indication that her husband was home, and in the far right corner where they had a small couch, was indeed Sasuke’s dark cloak.
Sakura got off the bed in a second and ran to the kitchen. She found her daughter setting the table for three.
Sarada laughed at her mama’s obvious, over-the-top excitement.
“Anata!” Sakura exclaimed
Sasuke looked over his shoulder as he was cooking. “Ah, tadaima.”
“Let’s eat!” Sarada said with glee.
