“That’s true…but you’d at least have a sense of what to do. Maybe you should take a real self defense class so you’ll know what it feels like to actually put the moves in action. I would benefit from taking one too. I don’t think anything would ever happen, but if it did, we could handle it!” She shrugs her shoulders, not quite sold on the idea herself, but it wouldn’t be bad knowledge to know. She smiles at Dani brightly, happy that the girl saw that too. It felt more meaningful coming from her, more real.
“I think side by side would look fine. Maybe we can change the scheme up when we get more art to spruce up the apartment. I do believe our guests would enjoy them. They are quality pieces of art.” Rachel jokes, going to grab two nails and a hammer. She puts them into the wall, hitting much harder than she needed to, but once it is secure she hangs her painting up. “How do you not see that I’m disappointed you won’t be home tomorrow?” The words feel like they come out of nowhere, but Rachel feels them deeply. “Are you two going to start dating or something?” She’s beginning to sound irrational, but her dad’s always told her to not go to bed upset, and she would if she doesn’t bring this up to Dani now.
“I know we’re just friends but I don’t think I can just handle you flaunting a girl friend around, especially when all we have to part our bedrooms are tie dyed sheets.” Despite thinking she was done drinking for the evening she refills her glass of wine, and downs half of it in one sip. She doesn’t know where her anger is coming from but she’s clenching the glass. “I just can’t watch that.”
Dani really thought about what Rachel said and it made a lot of sense. “That’s actually a great idea. Maybe I’ll look into some defense classes we could sign up for. Never hurts to be safe rather than sorry.” Dani agreed and took a step back and let Rachel hang the paintings up. A huge grin came across her face as she looked at the art the both of them had created. This place was really starting to become their home.
Dani’s happiness was soon interrupted by Rachel’s words. Dani definitely didn’t expect an argument to erupt after they had just had so much fun with the artwork yet here they were. Dani’s face scrunched up in confusion and she just stared at Rachel like she was crazy which she was acting very crazy right about now. “Date? Dating? Are you for real right now, Rachel?” Dani wasn’t one to get confrontational but the way Rachel was acting was really starting to upset Dani.
“She’s straight if you must know Rachel, or at least I assume she is. Even if she wasn’t straight she’s not my type. Which isn’t really the point even if she was my type I don’t want to date anyone right now. I’m literally going for an assignment. Unlike you who’s at the ever so amazing NYADA we have actual homework assignments at Tisch.” Dani didn’t mean what she was saying not completely but she was now upset as well. “It’s kind of messed up though because even if she was my type and it was more than a homework assignment why would it matter? We broke up, Rachel! We decided we weren’t good for each other in that way. So why should you care if I date someone else?”
Dani felt her face get hot and she knew the tears were about to come. “It doesn’t even matter! I’m not going to date her but you also can’t assume every time I hang out with a female that it automatically means I’m trying to fuck her or date her. I don’t want that with anyone, I can’t even imagine dating someone else when all I want to do is be with you!” The words slipped up but Dani did mean them. She shut her mouth and let silence consume them for a few moments. “I’m not doing this. I’m not gonna have this discussion with you. I’m going to bed and I’d slam my curtain shut if I had one but since I don’t I would like it if you didn’t disturb me.”

“That sounds like fun, I bet it would come in handy if you ever had to defend yourself too!” She hopes Dani will never have to do that, but it is New York. “Maybe by the time you are done at Tisch you will be just as bad ass as your teacher, if not more bad ass. I think you already are!”
Rachel listens along to Dani’s story about her painting of the cat, it makes her laugh, before getting serious at the talk of her painting. “I’d like to think if anyone deserves to make it in general, it’s me, but sometimes I’m not sure. This school is much different then little Ohio, this city is so pressure filled!”
Rachel’s face falls a bit as Dani explains she has plans, but she smiles despite her uneasiness. “A rain check it is then.” She stands up again to start cleaning up a bit, making sure to wipe down surfaces that got a bit of paint on them. “What do you think, should we hang our pictures?” She gestures for the blank wall near their tv. “Maybe there?”
“Yeah, I guess so? I mean most of the stuff we do is pretty fake because you never really want to hurt someone on stage but still.” Dani laughed along and poured herself another shot. Speaking about Tisch for this long was starting to get to her. “Well thanks. Nice to know someone else see my badass ways.” Dani took in Rachel’s words and nodded along. “You’re right. This place is bursting at the seams with talent but not everyone has heart like you do, Rach.”
Dani felt like there might have been some tension between the two girls after Dani revealed she had plans the next day. “Um, yeah. We could totally hang them.” Dani wanted to talk about her having plans and let Rachel know it was just for an assignment but why would Rachel care? Dani got up from the floor and helped Rachel clean up the rest of the supplies. “I think whatever guests we have come here they’re really going to enjoy our artwork.” Dani reached down to grab her canvas and walked to the blank area on the wall. “Should we have them set up a specific way or just side by side to each other?”

goldstarsjourney:
Once the black paint was dry, Rachel begins to paint a yellow light at the top of the canvas, then she traces out a body in white. “How was your classes today? You got out earlier than me but it doesn’t necessarily mean you had an easier time.” She feels a bit bad for not asking before, but it’s always been like that for the most part. Rachel is so worried about Rachel a majority of the time that it’s hard for her to think of others. It’s easier with Dani. It’s like she’s forced to get out of her head when she’s around her and it’s for the better.
When Rachel is happy with how the person comes out, she begins to paint out the crowd, it’s very messy, but it’s clear that Rachel painted herself on stage with a spotlight, in front of an audience. Rachel’s dream has always been to be on Broadway, especially the role of Fanny Brice on Broadway. “It’s adorable Dani! I want to pet its little fat belly.” She claims with a laugh, grabbing the bottle of wine and pouring a shot of vodka for her friend. “Ii think the tie dye will come out great too. Remind me to get them in the wash before you leave for class tomorrow. We can start decorating tomorrow night…Unless you have plans.” She feels a tinge of jealousy bubble up in her chest, but she has no right to feel that way.
“They were alright. I had Intro to Acting and then my combat class. The combat class totally kicks my ass but it keeps me in shape.” Dani didn’t like to talk about Tisch much. She enjoyed the school and was grateful to be there but it always stung to talk about because she auditioned for NYADA just like Rachel but didn’t get in. “My combat teacher is a total badass though. She could easily kick any of the dude’s asses in there which is total life goals.” Dani chuckled and then pulled her knees up to her chest as she finished her painting and sat comfortably on the floor.
“Thanks! I’ve always wanted a black cat but I wanted it to be fat for some reason. Like still active enough I could love it and play with it but just fat. Like a fat grumpy old man.” Dani shook her head and looked over to Rachel’s. “Of course that’s yours. You’re gonna make it there one day, you know? If anyone from McKinley is meant to make it big it’s you.” Dani grabbed the shot and took it down with ease as Rachel asked about decorating. “Um, actually.” Dani grabbed her phone that was next to her and looked through her messages. “I actually do. I’m sorry, Rach. There’s this girl in my Intro to Acting Class and we got assigned this scene together so we’re gonna meet for coffee or something to go over lines and the assignment. Can we rain check?”

“I like how much of a mess you are.” Rachel teases, she loves that Dani isn’t afraid to get down and dirty. Rachel finds herself to be too hesitant at times and Dani is never afraid to jump into something. They really balance each other out and work well together. “I thought it would make things interesting as well. That’s why I suggested it.” She says with a wink.
Rachel listens happily to Dani’s suggesting, not surprised by how great of an idea the girl chooses. “Your so deep Dani. I love that idea.” She picks out some colors and brushes, a lot of yellow and black, and some other brighter colors. “I want you to paint the cat you wish you could have. I know that’s kind of silly but I’m quite curious.”
She begins to paint her canvas black, with even strokes of her brush, patiently waiting for it to dry as she sips her wine. On a piece of paper she starts tracing out a body, wanting to make sure it will look perfect on her painting.
Dani shook her head when Rachel claimed she was deep. “Nah, it’s not that deep at least I don’t think so.” Dani truly didn’t but then again she didn’t give herself much credit with her own ideas sometimes. “A cat? Alright. I think I can manage that.” Dani grabbed some black and pink paint and started to trace a cat the best way she could. Dani was no artist by any means so it was a bit difficult but she let herself really get into it.
She moved around on the floor to get the right angles and strokes for this piece of art. Silence filled the air between the two women but they were both very focused on their art work. Dani was finally satisfied and put on the last touch to her piece and put her brushes down letting out a heavy sigh. “Well then, I think I did alright? Definitely not as good at the tie dye will be but it’s something?”

“I hope so!” Rachel’s voice is soft, staying in the kitchen as Dani follows behind her. “I’m not too worried, I made sure it is washable, the paint is acrylic though, so we will have to try and be more careful with that. I have faith we can get through this unharmed.” She likes most about Dani, that they can laugh together, it never seems to be a dull moment when they are together. Even in silence.
Rachel sits crosses legged on the floor, removing the canvases from their plastic, and organizing all the paint and brushes. “My class was long. I had to put a lot of effort in, which I’m more than okay with, it just makes it tiring. My back hurts a little bit but I think the wine will help that a bit.” Looking over to her, she purses her lips. “Should we paint what we want or choose something for one another to paint?” She shrugs her shoulders, hoping Dani had some sort of an idea. Rachel knows she’d chosen these tasks for them to do, but she doesn’t want to seem so boring or to lack a uniqueness that Dani seems to just embrace so easily.
“You might be able to get through this unharmed but we all know how much of a hot mess I can be.” Dani made her way back to the floor and listened to Rachel go on about her class. “That’s no fun. I’m sorry it’s been rough on you but it’ll all be worth it in the end.” Dani shot a friendly smile towards Rachel. Dani thought about Rachel’s suggestion for a second. “Hm. I like the idea of picking something for the other person. It could make things interesting.”
Dani thought about what she could have Rachel paint, “Paint your biggest dream. Whatever it is even though I’m pretty sure I know what it is but still. It could be interesting to see what you envision in your head onto the canvas.” Dani picked out a couple brushes for herself and focused back on Rachel, “What should I paint?”

“I drink the wine and you drink the vodka, you said it yourself.” Rachel teases, not wanting to admit that she feels the need to lighten up. She didn’t think this type of task was hard but he perfectionist in her kept her feeling a bit on edge. What if it doesn’t turn out the way she wants? What if Dani’s looks better? “I think those colors will look great together.” Rachel says honestly, jealous of Dani’s eye for color and just creativity all around. She definitely isn’t someone who puts herself in a box and is afraid to leave it.
She watches how Dani does everything and follows the girlslead, deciding on adding orange and green with her purple. “We’re going to have the most stylish tiny aparment in all of New York.” She means it, finding their apartment to be the best in New Yorl already, since they were the ones occupying it.”I think that mine is going to turn out okay. My hands are dyed green and purple though.” She shows them to the other girl, laughing to herself. “We’re gonna be so messy.”
When Rachel finishes hers, she stands up and grabs the fabric, careful to not let it drip and stain the floor as she places it in the empty sink. “We have to let it soak for 8 hours. I’m not sure I can wait that long. I can already tell yours is going to come out so pretty!”
“Fair enough.” Dani was finished with her design and looked to Rachel. “Shut up. Yours is gonna be super awesome!” Dani got up and picked her piece of fabric up carefully taking it to the sink with Rachel’s. Dani laughed at Rachel’s hands. “Mine are some weird funky color but I think I can dig it. Worst case we’ll just shower afterwards.”
Dani put her hands on her hips and shook her head. “That’s so depressing. I guess we’ll just let it sit over night then?” Dani shrugged and looked to the other art supplies. “Until then I say it’s time for another glass of wine before we start to attempt to paint.” Dani walked to the wine again and poured another glass for the each of them. “How was your dance class today?”

Rachel doesn’t mean to roll her eyes and hopes the genuine laugh that leaves her, makes it right again. The pun is corny but so is Dani, and it’s one of the many reasons Rachel loved(s) her. “That is exactly how I see the evening going.” A blush rises to her cheeks and she just waggles a finger at the girl. She had felt so exhausted and sore after her class, but Dani knew how to perk her right up. She’d gotten really lucky with their arrangement and having the girl back in her life again.
She has to stop herself from melting into Dani’s arms, resist the urge to kiss her, and just ask her to cuddle. Instead she allows Dani to take charge and get them back on the right track. “I’ll be back!” She walks away to fish through her clothes, settling on a tanktop and leggings, knowing she had enough of them and the paint would only serve as a nice memory of this evening.
The glass of wine feels heavy in her hand and it matches the tears that well in her eyes. Many a nights they had talked about this and here they were, making dreams a reality. “I hate you for that!” Rachel says, teasingly pushing her shoulder, before downing her glass of wine. “It’s going to help me decide my colors for my side.” She says seriously, gesturing towards her empty glass, as she sets it down and sits on the floor. “I’m thinking purple for sure.”
Dani laughed as Rachel nudged her. She meant it though. Even if they couldn’t be together in a romantic way Dani was happy to be here with her at all. She couldn’t see herself pursuing her own dreams without Rachel by her side. Dani’s eyes grew as Rachel downed the wine. “Someone’s trying to get wine drunk before me? I’m shocked Ms. Berry.” Dani smirked before finishing her glass. Sitting her glass down she plopped down on the ground in front of her sheet.
“The color of royalty, hm?” Dani quirked her eyebrow and debated on what colors she wanted to use. “I want to use red, purple, green, and surprisingly pink! I think it’ll all mesh well together on this sheet.” Dani reached for the sheet and gently started to bunch it up and dipped it into the water bucket she set up for them earlier. Quickly wringing it out she grabbed some of the rubber bands the kits provided and tied her sheet up in a weird and twisted way to make sure everything set properly. Setting it on the ground she grabbed the colors she wanted except for purple allowing Rachel use it first.
She poured the paint all over the specific spots she wanted them in. She drenched the colors into it and looked over to Rachel, “How’s it going for you?”

goldstarsjourney:
New York is everything Rachel expected it to be and more, and to make it even better, she has the person closest to her living in the closest corners possible. She still feels the tension but things are slowly working themselves out. It’s nice because they are both pretty busy girls, so they aren’t stuck spending day in and day out together. They have their own room to breathe. She’s excited to spend some time with Dani, however, she knows it will be light and fun.
After her dance class that leaves her tired, Rachel rushes to a nearby craft store to pick out their supplies. She ends up buying 3 different kits to make sure they have all the colors, and as she passes canvases on sale, she also picks up two of those and some paint, for their very own make shift paint and sip.
She buys the items and rushes to the subway, wanting to get back to her friend as fast as possible. Relief washes over her when her stop arrives, and she books it down the few blocks to their apartment. Balancing the items on one leg, she opens up the door. “I’m in the mood for a hug Dani.” She calls out, noticing the sheets places and ready on the floor. It isn’t long before she sees Dani sitting on the counter. “That’s not very sanitary you know.” She giggles, setting their things down. “We have every color tie dye we could possibly think of and I figured we could put our true artistic abilities to the test, enhances by the wine, and paint our own canvas!”
Dani looked up to see the door opening and she laughed at Rachel’s comment about her being on the kitchen counter. “I like to live on the edge. Eh, get it?” Dani was pretty proud of her pun but still she hopped off the counter and walked over to Rachel to look everything over. “So we’re gonna make badass privacy sheets sort of sober and then get really wine drunk and attempt to paint? Rachel Berry you sure know how to please a woman.” Dani laughed and then pulled Rachel into one of her famous hugs. Holding the hug for a moment it felt good. It felt right. She quickly pulled away not wanting to hug for too long.
“Alright, you go change and I’ll get all this other stuff set up so we can start our tie dye adventure!” Dani looked over all the instructions for the kit and started to get everything set up for the girls. By the time Rachel was changed things were pretty much set up. “Before we begin continuing to make this our home here is your first glass of wine for the night. I stocked up on a couple bottles and of course I had to get some Vokda to keep me happy every now and then.” Dani handed Rachel her glass and then took her own in her hand. “Here’s to us. Making new memories, a new life, and finally making our dreams come true. Together!”

Dani had just gotten back to their apartment and had her hands filled with sheets and wine. Managing to get into their home she placed everything gently on the dining room table. Quickly turning to close the huge door behind her she went back to the materials. “Tonight is gonna be good.” It was hard for Dani living here in New York. She was loving her classes at Tisch, she was making new friends, but it still wasn’t enough. Dani was still pretty much completely in love with Rachel. They had been on and off all throughout high school and always found their way back to each other. Dani thought once they were away from everyone and go to New York they could rekindle the fire but so far nothing has happened.
Dani moved some things out of the way and then laid out the sheets close enough to each other they would still be interacting but far enough they weren’t all over each other. Once that was set up Dani tip toed to her make shift room and quickly changed into a pair of cotton shorts and a tank top that she wouldn’t mind messing up. Pulling her hair up in a messy bun she made her way back into the kitchen and grabbed two glasses and gently poured a glass of wine for the both of them. Taking a sip from her glass she sat up on the kitchen counter and waited on Rachel to get home with the art supplies to start their project.

Dani!!!! It isn’t like that. Anymore.
Perfect! I’ll definitely let you take initiative on that one. I don’t think I could pull off 21 in a store, just at the bars with a group of us! This will be so fun, I cannot wait to get home!
I know, I know. Yeah, you don’t need to remind me. Unfortunately...
No, I don’t think you could either, babe. I’ll head out now to get everything situated and set up for it’s all good to go by the time you get home.

You are not wrong about that. I think its why we get on so well!
Do we have sheets? I’ll pick up the supplies on my way home from dance class. Do we have wine?
Well, I think there’s many reasons we get along really well. Some of those reasons I can’t mention without coming off as a bit crude.
I think we have some extra. I’ll double check. I’m done with my classes today so I can run out to a thrift store or something and get some sheets and then get us some wine since our fakes came in a couple days ago.

Thanks Dani. You sure are good at making a girl blush!
Thank goodness for that. I don’t think I could have stood another day in that god forsaken place. We could hit up some local thrift stores or we could take some old white sheets and tie dye them. It would really make the place our own I think. What are your thoughts?
What can I say? I’m a real charmer.
Honestly, same though? I’m just glad we both got into schools up here. You had me at tie dye. Can we please do this? Any excuse to get dye all over me I’m down for.

I’m choosing not to answer that…
Do you know who we are? Anything is possible. But after some searching on the internet I also found giant leggo blocks that make a fake wall. Though, sheets or tapestry’s seem like the easier solution.
You’re adorable.
I do know who we are. Two badasses who finally got the hell out of Lima. Hm, let’s try the sheets idea first and if it doesn’t work out then we can totally go to lego blocks route.

How can you say that? I still use myspace!
You’ve kind of always been in my five year plan, Dani. This time its just a bit different. I’m excited to see what is to come and even more excited to be living a sheet away from you! I bet we could build a fake wall, I’ve done enough striking to have an idea of how wood works.
You’re joking, right? Rachel, please tell me you’re joking.
Well as long as I’m part of it that’s all that matters to me. A fake wall? Can we even do that in here? I was thinking putting up sheets like a curtain but building a fake wall sounds way more fun!

Your resident of Lima, Ohio starlet has now moved into a lovely apartment in NEW YORK. If any of you know me (the way that you should by now) you would know how perfect this is in terms of my 5 year plan!
I will also be starting my first semester at NYADA.
Things couldn’t be any more perfect.
That’s all for now,

Rachel, you do realize no one has been on MySpace in literal years? You’re lucky you’re adorable so you can get away with that statement.
I can say I’m pretty stoked to be part of your five year plan since I am your lucky roommate. We should figure out what we’re gonna do about not having any doors for privacy between our make shift bedrooms.
