Ancient Rome was home to the first women's rights protest march in 195BC, to force the Senate to revoke a wartime law (lex Oppia) that persisted 20 years after the war it was made for (& the rest of the wartime laws abolished), restricting how much gold a woman could wear as jewelry. Woman marched to Rome from towns and hamlets to the city, proving it wasn't just an issue for women of economic means.
Cato (yes, that Cato) was railing against the protest in the Senate, saying if they removed the law that husbands would forever lose control over their wives....if only, eh?
”Men think about the Roman Empire” “What’s the female version of the Roman Empire” SHUT UPPPPP. SHUT THE FUCK UPPPPPP. AS A WOMAN I LOVE THE ROMAN EMPIRE. AS A WOMAN I LOVE ANCIENT HISTORY AND BATTLES AND POLITICAL INSTABILITY. THE “GIRL VERSION OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE” IS THE ROMAN EMPIRE. IM GOING TO STAB YOU 23 TIMES
