Equity in Education
What is equity?
Is it making sure that every student gets the same thing?
No. Thats equality.
Equity is making sure that every student gets what they need to be successful in school.
For example:
Equality is providing supplies for all students, no matter if they can afford it or not.
Equity is providing students with their individual needs inorder to be successful. If there is a student who needs wheelchair access to get into the building, they should get that access. If there is a student who needs individual assistance with taking test, they should have that. If a parent cannot make it to parent/teacher conferences, that the teacher works with those parents to provide the student with the information. Equity means providing healthy food options for students in the cafeteria.
Why is this important? Because students who get their individual needs, will allow for them to focus on being the best that they can be.

Introduction
Welcome to Sanders Says! This is a safe space where we will talk about equity in education and how it affects all children.
What makes me an expert?
Well in 2021, I started as a student in the MACIE (Masters of Arts in Creative and Innovative Education) at Georgia State University. During my matriculation I have been exposed to the inequities in education and different ways to combat the issues.
Upon my graduation in 2023, I have been exposed to some of the issues in education and how we as educators can make changes to make education more inclusive for all students.
I started my program with on professor who truly opened my eyes in the program and had the pleasure of also taking this same professor at the end of my program. This is dedicated to Dr. Ryan Zilos. Thank you for showing me to always ask questions and to think outside the box.
So join me as we combat inequity in education!
