DUI checkpoints are a good idea

SA DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a DUI/drivers license checkpoint on Thursday, May 31, at an undisclosed location within the city limits from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday, authorities said. "In recent years, California has seen a disturbing increase in drug-impaired driving crashes," the department said. "San Diego supports the new effort from the Office of Traffic Safety that aims to educate all drivers that 'DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze.' If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI." Read more here

Concerning the planned DUI checkpoint for San Diego, I feel it’s a fantastic idea. Plenty of times, both teens and adults take to the streets despite having had a few drinks. It’s unfortunate but accidents and fatalities can be avoided if there were more stricter control on such things. Having a DUI checkpoint would allow for people to think about their actions before doing them and take personal responsibility for themselves before sitting behind the wheel. I believe it’s a fantastic idea and more check points should be set up not only in California, but in more states in the USA.
