Snippet of something in my head, might turn it into something more.

CW: panic attack

James stumbled in his haste to find him. His breathing was becoming erratic as his heartbeat picked up speed. Thump... thump... thump... It was all he could hear as his eyes darted everywhere, trying to find him.

James closed his eyes as he tried to focus. He couldn't let everyone in the library see him like this. Deep breath in... deep breath out... deep breath - it wasn't working. Nothing was working.

James picked up his pace as he scanned the library. Why couldn't he stop his panic? Everyone was looking at him and he couldn't figure out how to stop.

He staggered over to a table in the back corner. His breaths were coming in fast and shallow now. Why did he have to be so stupid? He should have stayed in his dorm until he got back.

"Re- Regulus?" James asked quickly when he spotted the boy at the table.

Regulus glanced up from his book, annoyed before promptly looking back down.

"What do you want, Potter?"

"Sor- sorry, b- but have you-" James cut himself off as he tried to force air back into his lungs and not being able to get enough.

James started fidgeting with his shirt, anything to get his hands to stop shaking. When he looked back at Regulus, he had his eyebrow cocked and looked like he was about two seconds away from throwing his book at him.

"Barty," James blurted. "Do you know where he is?"

James was looking everywhere, except at Regulus, trying to find his best friend. Barty was the only one who had ever been able to get James to calm down when he was in this bad of a panic attack.

Regulus scoffed. "No. Why would I- are you alright?"

James looked back at Regulus to see his lips moving, but the words didn't reach his ears anymore over the ringing in them. James' breathing picked up exponentially now as his eyes darted frantically around the room, looking for a way out.

He didn't know what was going on anymore, but he thought someone was moving him. He closed his eyes tight, his head falling in between his knees. When did he sit down?

Regulus didn't know what was happening. He'd only seen Potter in passing and know he was friends with his lab partner, but that was all he knew about him. And now, Potter seemed to be in a state, and Regulus had no clue what to do. He wanted to leave him, but that seemed cruel even for him.

He was trying to get Potter to tell him how to help, but he wasn't responding, and his breathing seemed to be getting even more erratic as the seconds passed.

"James?" A voice came from behind him and Regulus turned around quickly to see Barty. He breathed a sigh a relief. "What happened?"

"I don't know. He came up to my table asking for you, and then he collapsed on the floor. I caught him before he hit the ground, but he's not responding anymore."

James pushed off the desk and opened the door. "Now get out." "This isn't over," Albus remarked, walking past James. "We will be back." "I'd be more surprised if you weren't," James drawled before closing the office door once they were out. The officers grumbled something to each other that James didn't bother to listen to over the music before they left the pub. James headed back behind the bar and continued to help customers as if nothing happened. "What was that all about?" Evan asked after it slowed down a little. James glanced at Regulus and Barty. "Seems the boys didn't listen." "Ahh."

"Not sure what you're talking about," he shrugged nonchalantly, but Regulus knew his best friend and cousin. "Sure," Regulus repeated back to him in the same tone Evan used. Evan sighed. "So, we're both lying and just going to ignore it?" "Sounds good to me." Regulus finished making James' drink and was about to start his until he was distracted by a girly laugh coming from the couch where their boyfriends were sitting. He turned and crushed the cup in his hand, spilling the drink on the table and floor. Evan quirked his eyebrow before he turned to see what Regulus was death glaring at. "Oh, hell no. I don't think so," Evan remarked before slamming his drink on the table.
