RIP... I forgot to read yesterday because I got pulled into Animal Crossing 😅. I made it to 87 days in a row though!
Now to try again 😁 feel free to reblog with your own streak! (I'm using StoryGraph).
73 day streak for reading. I only started tracking in late December, so it may be longer, but it's satisfying seeing how long I can keep this up.

Heart Berries by Terese Marie Mailhot
Was a beautiful read. It is about a Salish woman (nonfiction/memoir) who struggles with generational trauma, mental health challenges, and abuse. She keeps finding her way through life though; the ending is a good one. It's about perseverance, breaking cyclical trauma, humanity, racism, and finding one's self. Her writing style took me a moment to adjust to, she writes her sentences in a non-standard fashion, but once you adjust, it adds to the story.

Wild Geese
You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

Reblogging again because this feels really pertinent right now with the state of the US.
lately
i’ve turned to the river
to the starlings gathering there at twilight
moon in their throats
all i want is the music
anything
to keep me breathing
this dancing
this whirl of my heart

tell me about ur most pathetic wet piece of shit fave please!!
Oh perfect, it's time for me to spread book propoganda:
Imagine, if you will, a 6 foot something, imposing man, he has long black hair and crows answer his call. Peeking our from under his clothes you can see a pattern etched into his skin. He is the vessel of a god.
He is a mommas boy, he has no social skills (the crows that flock to him are his only friends and he loves them sososo much), he covers his scarred eyes with a cloth specifically because he doesn't want his injury to creep people out, he's so afraid and so kind and so gentle. He wants nothing more than for the girl he likes to tell him stories and teach him about the stars.
His name is Serapio I love him so much why does Rebecca Roanhorse's Between Earth and Sky series not have any fucking fandom oh god I'm suffering waiting for the last book 😭

Authors That Deserve More Attention
First it was Bad Dyke, which led to Lunatic Fringe, both authored by Allison Moon and both wonderful books deserving of more popularity. Her writing flows well, is bluntly honest, and captures the human experience. Especially the complexity of queer identity in American society. Plus I'm a nerd, so it's not shocking she won my heart with the scene involving Legolas- LARPing, a tree, and masturbation. Does that pique your interest? Go read Bad Dyke ;)
I appreciate Bad Dyke for the unremorseful honesty about the complexity of queer identity and identity in general, woven with threads of humor.
Lunatic Fringe is beautifully poetic and also contains the above. It's not Earth shatteringly good, but it is good in a simplistic yet enjoyable way. If that's not enough, how can you say no to lesbian werewolves? The book is so gay and I looooove it. I'm only halfway through and I know I'm going to finish it quickly and go buy a personal copy (I'm currently loaning from the library. The Pack would be proud).
