Badge/Design Planning Sketches/Drawings
I illustrated the same tiger design but changed the colour to make it more ‘feminine and fragile’ as that is what i’m trying to show. Female’s are known to be more soft so i am playing on that by switching up colours.

Evaluation/Reflection
What did I learn about the way I work?
I learned that I can find ways to relate some of my separate work to my project by broadening my research. If an experiment reminds me of something that has nothing to do with my project I will still look into it as I might gain inspiration from it and create more ideas to progress further especially when i’m finding it difficult to move on from one thing.
Which of the techniques looked at ‘resonated’ or have potential?
Aside from the class experiments, i recently created more knit samples all about Tigers which is the focal point in my project right now. My focus is creating badges and to represent Tigers in a different way so i’m experimenting by creating different designs to show their innocence. I would like to explore more with weaving aswell as i know I can achieve high results with that technique considering my samples turned out well.
Do you have a potential direction i.e fine art, fashion, interiors etc. ?
At the moment i would say i’m in the fashion and interior area because of the types of designs I look at. I wish i spent more time researching those areas to further my knowledge and skills especially if i want to stay in that department for the future. I would’ve gained a lot of experience by learning.
What areas do you feel you need to focus upon, where you may have paid less attention to or ‘let fall’ ?
The area I need to focus the most on is drawing. I’ve noticed how when I draw i will usually copy but I have tried to push myself into creating my own images and designs as that is the main part. Sometimes, i feel like i have no inspiration even though i have a variety or images and research which I can pick out and combine so that’s something I definitely need to focus on. Although I have a lot of experiments I still need to create my own things rather than relying on class tasks.

Badge/Design Planning Sketches/Drawings
This is where I started ideas for badges and the designs, the tiger’s face is a portrayal of an innocent tiger mainly because of the colours I used like pink which is known to be a feminine and fragile colour. However, the eyes still seem intimidating as they are big and bold so next time I will work on the eyes and see what works best. The tiger print is very basic, I just wanted to see how it would look with the materials I use and the way I draw/paint with my hands. This could be a badge for someone who loves the animal like me and they might add it to their clothing, maybe they are not a fan of wearing animal print but will add a touch of it with a badge.

Painting/Drawing of Tiger Knit Samples - Artist Katy Dobson Inspired 2
This piece was also inspired by the same artist, It looks more expressive as there is more colours used like Katy’s painting so there is an explosion of different stories or whatever the paining represents.

Painting/Drawing of Tiger Knit Samples - Artist Katy Dobson Inspired 1
I decided to interpret the knits into paintings/drawings and they were inspired by the “Leader” painting Katy Dobson created. The expressive strokes look so effortless but still makes the picture look interesting as it looks like it has texture as there is a 3D effect. When i look at it, i get reminded of clouds and the way they are drawn, painted etc. artists always concentrate on showing the texture.

Artist Research - Larissa Nowicki - Weave Artist
- “Larissa Nowicki’s sculptures and weavings are formed from the printed pages of books, sliced and intricately woven to form new works that cannot be read in the traditional sense.”
- “This work is juxtaposed with a series of small weavings and paintings made from a book about the painting of Thomas Gainsborough that reproduced portraits of aristocratic women. Nowicki has made nine small weavings in which the weft (horizontal) strips are taken from the portrait imagery of the different women and the warp (vertical) strips are from the same landscape imagery. The woven swatch disconnects the colour from the original composition allowing for a new perspective in ‘seeing’ the colour print.”
