Sugar Bunnies
Binge-glimpsing at Sugar And Toys on Pluto TV, I had a random realization on how Brian Ash had mixed and matched nostalgic TV cartoons of my childhood into a grown-up comedy with a different outlook, in other words, loads of sugar for an adult who had followed those cartoons but had left it behind in the rat race of life — now for them this animated series serves one with Push Pop diabetes in a Zen state. And just reminding me of if how inserting Latin outlook on Bubbles and her gang could make one laugh, it could in actuality make things sugary out there too. By that, I mean colorful, unique like Sugar and toys, a new version, sweet, rainbow, transgender flag, Soho, your neighbor’s dandelions in her back garden, Miranda Sings’ lip-blush, Lo-fi music, and so on.By now we admit that sprinkling a pinch of sugar in a vessel of life could sparkle a rainbow way of living, just like filters. But on the other side, there still exist creatures with life like that in black and white films. They live and yawn and live and yawn, diminishing the sweet sixteen vibes. And now comes the plot hole, I am the kind that fits the second field. That much that even my train churns turtle as I fantasize about bathing in Miami but all I could perceive is 68 St Hunter College out of the window.I am such an out-class that if life had been a rainbow, my color would be pencil grey. Except for Sugar And Toys, of course.Out of blue, I remember a day when me and my friend Iqra were chatting on my balcony. Seeing the dark Clifton night as the humid breeze hit us along with Asees Kaur’s music. The same escape cave we had utilized for smoking candy cigarettes and discussions to smuggle Bournvita to school in the days of 9xm.
Iqra left the act of inhaling Cortado and asked me cautiously, “Sam, why don’t you become a donut?”
“Like a doughnut or donut with exception of ugh?”
“Dude, I meant synonymous-ly. Having a pleasing disposition to be precise,” she said, making air quotes through her fingers as she said the word ‘sweet’.
I dramatically threw my head back and let out a loud sigh. “Then I am a teaspoon of salt. It looks sugar but is zesty.”
“What…?” She began to inquire.
“I would live unsweetened and fierce life in an innocent way. As Bunnies are part of circle these days, not jungles.”
She shrugged. “Stop it. Enough of your hogwash. If you remain this way we will not be able to cope up with the mullah of madrasah.’’
That got on my nerve, flash-backs of our religious teacher spanking us because we had forgotten to say bismillah before eating Slanty. And instead of being nice kid and obeying like Iqra, I grinded my teeth with my face like crushed red grapes.
“And you think you can come out of this, huh?” Iqra was laughing even more at this point, and so was I.
“I did channel my best, ‘May I speak my sassiness?’ voice, just Kevin Hart taught me,” I reply, and then sigh heavily.
Today considering all fuss, I turn my head to three things.
1. Be a soda without bubbles:
Just be whatever you want but don’t fit in the confined definition the society wants you to be. You can still be a soda without carbonated bubbles.
2. Be a bubble tea without bubbles:
A tea can be cool too. It doesn’t have to be hot tea. You can choose to be your own type of tea, your dipping, your choices, bubbles, without bubbles, hot or cold, Taro or fruity.
3. Be a Splenda:
A profound doctor Sean Lucan said, “Sugar has become one of the new trendy enemies.” Well we know it’s true.
Heart attack and diabetes are a few effects of fructose crystals. So we need to act as a Splenda, not risky but still willing to give a taste of saccharinity.
At least a shield could be encapsulated around the bunny from the universe of Thanos. Because at least now we know, as Bunnies are part of circle these days, not jungles.
