Final Exam
Name: Beautiful world
For my final project I decided to create a painting of a sunset to represent the end and the big finale. Everyday ends in a sunset and I think it is a good way to represent this class ending. It shows off many different things we have learned and because of where we live I have decided to paint a sunset. Our town has many beautiful ones and I just wanted to create my version of it.

Sketchbook 4:
I think that the reason Jackson Pollock went from studying with Thomas Hart Benton and using abstract imagery in his paintings to removing all imagery in his drip paintings because he wanted to show his more laid back side through his art. His art became very abstract and did not have a lot of meaning to them. He wanted to show off his feelings through an abstract way with no image. I think that Pollock used this art form to express himself in a different way than most art forms do. You can look at one of his paintings and think of many different things or feelings and everybody can interpret it differently.

VIRTUAL SKETCHBOOK 3
The piece of art that I have chosen to write about from the Ringling Museum is called The Madonna and Child. This piece of art was created by Filippo Mazzola. It is made from oil paint on wood. It’s dimensions are 36.5 by 27 cm. This painting uses many bright colors in it and they are bold looking in contrast to many paintings that are using almost dull colors. There are human figures which are the main focal point of the piece. There is a mother and her son in the art. The mother and her baby are emphasized and it is a realistic painting.
This piece of work makes me think about what the mother is going through. Her and the baby are both portrayed with sad expressions on their faces and I wonder what they are going through or what they went through with the birth of her child. This painting leaves lots of room to wonder what the relationship between a mother and her child are throughout this time.
This piece of art was created during the renaissance and was a piece recreated in many homes. The subject is the Madonna and her child. I think you can tell the artist feels a certain sort of sadness in his work because the expressions on the subjects face are both very sad so it makes you wonder what they are going through. You can never tell exactly what the artist is trying to portray but in my opinion it looks as if he was trying to express a certain type of sadness from the mother that also effects the child. I think the artist is getting his message across pretty by making the subjects facial expressions very clear.
The importance of this work to society is to portray an image of women and children during the Renaissance. Mazzola wanted to create a work of art that would make an impact across many people in society. He used his painting to outline the role of a women in the household and how it made them feel. This was a very famous piece during the Renaissance period and was seen by many people. This was a staple piece in peoples homes and I think Mazzola did a good job of making a point in his painting

VIRTUAL SKETCHBOOK 2
1. Principles of design:
• Unity and Variety: Unity is the appearance or condition of an object or painting, while variety is something that brings diversity and originality to art.
• Balance: When something is equal. This can be with symmetrical balance and asymmetrical balance.
• Emphasis and subordination: Emphasis is used to draw someones attention to a certain area while subordination takes the emphasis away from certain areas.
• Directional Forces: Directional focus is what an artist uses to make us look at the art a certain way.
•Repetition and Rhythm: Repetition is what an artist uses to give a piece of art unity, continuity, flow, and emphasis while pattern is an overall design.
• Scale and Proportion: Scale is how big something is in relation to something else while proportion is the size of an object as a whole.
2. Vincent Van Gogg’s , starry night is a piece that is made with rhythm of lines throughout a painting with the emphasis in the light. He used line in the painting to create the movement of the wind throughout the sky in the piece. He also combined texture into it.
3. A time that color has affected my life was when I repainted my room. This may not sound like a big change but my walls used to be dark and brown but when I repainted it to a light blue it really lit up the whole room and brought out the saturation in everything else. If I was going to choose a color scheme to live in it would be tetradic. This color scheme has a variety of color options and I think it would be the best to live in.
4.
5. Photo/Design
The first magazine is a good layout design and the second is a bad layout design. A good design is a design that is clear and focused on what you want the viewer to know from it. A good design will clearly show or advertise something. The intent for a layout is to show an idea in a way of using multiple designs. I think my example of a good layout does fulfill its purpose to advertise the sale it is having.

Virtual sketchbook week 1:
1. My name is Samantha O’Connell and a little fact about me is that I used to play volleyball.
About Ibrahim Mahama 2015 Post No Bill. Jute sacks; dimensions variable, at Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University.
• My artist Ibrahim Mahama does installation art which is where the art takes up an entire space or room and the viewer can walk through it.
• His home country was the country of Ghana and in his country he has occupied many spaces with work of installation art.
• Mahama was on the list of some of the most influential Africans during the 2019/2020 years.
• This work of art would become his first major work in a US museum.
• Mahama would use reclaimed jute sacks and fabric offcuts that he would get from trading markets to create these large scale works of art.
My perception of the art did change after I researched it. When I first saw this work of art I just saw it as a worn down room full of old cloth. As I did more research I realized it was much more than that, and that Mahama put together this amazing work of art from repurposed things. He has created this art piece that takes up an entire room and has so many different pieces to look at. I no longer see this piece of art as some worn down pieces thrown together, but now as a well thought out piece of art. All the different cloths are pieces together so we’ll and you can really see so much going on. As well as there being a lot to look at, the art flows together so nicely as it brings together the room.
2. The first picture I have attached at the bottom is a piece of art I created a while ago. It is one of my favorite pieces and it is displayed in my bedroom. The media that was used to create this was paint. There was some texture mixed in with the paint to create the background and to show some dimension. This painting just serves as decoration in my house and to show the Eiffel Tower that is in Las Vegas. I think it is beautiful in many ways including the colors contrasting themselves and the beautiful scene.
3. When I look at art the baggage I bring along is that from my past experiences throughout my lifetime. I am a 17 year old female. I am born and raised in Venice, Florida. My ethnicity is white and for fun I hang out with my friends. I am not a member of any organized groups. I work at pacsun. My personality makes me uniquely me.
