HAPUNAN: Tatay’s Pandesal

October 15, 1895.

Dad never left me much. But I did find his old recipes! They’re all Hirayan, though. He must have come a long way from there.

Anyway… I found his old pandesal recipe. He used to make me this all the time when I was a kid. I got flour on my face all the time trying to make it! It drove me nuts when it kept deflating. But then he said to me, laughing:

“You can always try again. Wala kang makahanap ng bagong daan kung 'di ka madadapa muna.”

It took me a long time. But I think I got it right! I had Charles taste it, and he looked really happy with it. Maybe I’ll have the rest try it next.

I hope you’re proud of me, Tay. I’ll get you to taste it next time we meet.
