Am I The Asshole for telling someone they look like their identical twin?

I(35) recently began having debates with a group of people. I don't get along with these people much, due to quite a few problems and issues. My roommate (who we'll call green) also isn't the most fond of this group of people, though he's more prone to toying with them.

Green has an identical twin who i'll call red, red and green hate each other, they regularly fight and just don't enjoy each other's company. Red also hasn't been very kind to me, as he is part of the group I've been debating with. Red and green do look different, down to facial hair, eye color , generally style and personality. Though both of them (Red specifically) are still insecure about how identical they are.

Recently I had another debate with this group where I pointed our some unhealthy habits they were pushing onto a mutual friend, even though I doubt thet were aware. To prove I was trustworthy I revealed my name to the members of this group who were present at the time, as until then I had been using a phesodym. Here's where the issue begins.

When I revealed my name, red immediately made fun of it by saying it sounded like the name of a middle-aged librarian. I snapped back by telling him that "without the mustache, I couldn't tell who the evil twin was" this clearly rocked him quite a bit and he remained quiet and upset for the rest of the debate.

After finding out about the news, even green seemed a little miffed too, though much less. I understand what I said was harsh, but red was being mean, especially after I revealed something important to him.

Was I the asshole?
