Frollo and Mother Gothel convince Quasimodo and Rapunzel that their lives are dependent on them. The two villains claim the outside world is a terrible place even though they know this is not true. They also constantly emotionally abuse their victims by implying their worthlessness and destroying their self-esteems. Quasimodo and Rapunzel sympathize with their captors and even believe their captors are protecting them and treating them with kindness. However, both captors are merely using and manipulating their victims for their own selfish purposes.
NOT:
The Beast and Belle
Belle does not sympathize with the Beast when she is treated poorly. She becomes angry and leaves the castle, only returning by her own wish so that the Beast (who saves her) does not freeze to death. She does not respond nicely towards the Beast until he treats her with respect. In this situation, Belle has control and is not manipulated into feeling for the Beast, nor does the Beast treat her disrespectfully after the first night. While the Beast does have an underlying motive as to keeping Belle in his castle, he abandons this idea and sets her free to make her happy. If anything, this story is a case of Lima Syndrome where the captor starts to sympathize with the victim.
Check out this post which refocuses the purpose of Beauty and the Beast from merely (and wrongly) being about Stockholm Syndrome to itâs original purpose.
THROUGH A RAPISTâS EYESâ (PLS TAKE TIME TO READ THIS. It may save a life, It may save your life.)
An Article from Neena Susan Thomas
âThrough a rapistâs eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewâŠed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women whoâs clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.
3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.
6] Number three is public restrooms.
7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they donât have to worry about getting caught.
8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isnât worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.
10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys youâre not worth it.
POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: canât believe it is so cold out here, weâre in for a bad winter. Now that youâve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.
2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said theyâd leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
4] If someone grabs you, you canât beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh â HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.
5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guyâs parts it is extremely painful. You might think that youâll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and heâs out of there.
6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, donât dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but youâd feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL âŠ.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from youâŠ. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver wonât see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DONâT DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driverâs side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked âfor helpâ into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and itâs better safe than sorry.

AT LEAST PEOPLE WILL KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD.
So please reblog thisâŠ.Your one reblog can Help to spread this information.
Iâll never forget that one time I was talking to this boy and I rejected him (mind you I almost gave him my address because we were supposed to go out) and he stalked and harassed me for an entire month and put my number on Craigslist (I was getting hundreds of calls and texts every day to the point my phone stopped working).
Okay so i got a few notes on how i go about Environments/LandscapesâŠso iâll share a method thats easy to work withâŠ.bare with me its been a little while since ive drawn them Lol
First thing you want to start of with in your gradient backgroundâŠuse what ever is your preference. Depends on the setting, ima do some type of desert/dusty place.
Youâll learn that the Lasso tool is gonna be your bae when it comes to environmentsâŠthat and its pretty useful. Now your going to be working in three tones, 1.Dark 2.Mid 3.Light and it will always be the darkest at the front fading to light towards the backâŠmake sense? So you will have three layers for each one to make your life easier and Lock those layers so you will only color within that area. Make sure the dark layer is on top.Â
Here is where the fun kicks inâŠwe add our dets, try to stay with each tone and dont end up making it all muddy so you cant distinguish each one. Now you can go about this any way you please, you can paint it all in with one brush ( for some reason people get anal about shit like that, thinking there great for using one brushâŠi think if you got tools use em if you know how to do it right.) Or you can use custom brushesâŠsince this is a tut ill mostly use custom brushes to slap stuff around. Its up to you really, also use the lasso tool like i said its your bae.
The lasso can help define things better for you, so i wanted to add a structure type on the third layer. If you want to give an effect that the selection ive made is in front of the background right click your selection and invert it, add some lighting around the edgesâŠonly a little though you dont want to over do it.
Also if youâve done something on a layer you dont want to mess up or paint on what you can do is create a clipping mask on that layer. Its kinda like locking the layer to that one so you dont go outside of the layer or ruin what you worked on. Make a new layer above the one you wish to attach it to and right click the newlayer, a menu will pop up, your looking for clipping mask. Once you clicked it the layer should look like what ive circled.Â
Once your done working on each layer we are gonna put in some mist effect, this is something that helps separate each section. So make a new layer between each of your three as shown in the image. Like i said you can use what ever method you like, i just use a soft brush or cloud/mist brush to get what i want.Â
Now we are going to add some definition to the image a good one to use is Curves. You can find this where your layer menu is, at the bottom youâll find it, ive circled what your looking for. On the third image is what will appear when you click curves, all you need to do is drag the little square and youâll see some magic happen. So adjust it to your preference. If you want you can also mess with brightness/contrast too. ALSO i would recommend adding a person in the image, it gives you an idea of the scale your environment is.
I was going to end it there but hey, ill show one last thingâŠits pretty simple. and that is some water reflection, we are going to turn the middle into water instead cause its a little boring right now. I merged all layers but the first one, you then want to make a selection and copy/paste. Free transform in the shortcut is ctrl T and do a vertical flip on it then adjust so its mirroring the top.Â
Now make a clipping mask like i explained earlier on the reflected surface and use the radiant toolâŠi think its called that lol it gives it more of a water surface like you see. For the image below it i used a custom brush which creates a water effect, aaaaaaaaaand bam you got you water now covering the areaâŠeasy huh.Â
And so this concludes the Tutorial and you have the end result. Hopefully that gave some tips on how to approach landscapesâŠthey can be confusing sometimes on where to start. Enjoy and let me know if it was useful or not :P
The last Chronicles of Narnia movie came out 10 years ago and Netflix has set the premiere of their own adaptation in spring.
Because of that, the Special Anniversary Edition DVD box of all 3 movies comes out - with never-before-seen footage and special extra material.
So, obviously, you go to the nearest store and you buy it, even if you already have those dvdâs.
You come home and start a movie marathon.
Itâs the end of the LWW and so far you havenât seen anything new or extra.
But then you see it.
Itâs the flash forward scene. The White Stag Hunt.
But itâs different.
Those are not the actors you usually see in the scene.
Itâs them.
And it makes perfect sense, because itâs been 15 years since LWW came out and all four of them are now old enough to play adult versions of themselves.
Thatâs the âextra materialâ - the grand surprise.
But then you get to the end of the movie and you cry louder and harder than ever before.
Because now seeing their actual adult selves going back to their actual childhood selves has even bigger impact.
I used paint tool sai for this, but most programs should be able to do things similar. I also included my layers if it would help! Here is a .sai file. Here is a .psd too but itâs missing a few .sai things.
Itâs a really fast style to do because itâs simple- it only took me an hour to draw! But this is not for beginners because it requires you to know a basic amount about layers and to be neat.
So much for being neat Personally, whenever I draw a picture that needs to go beyond the sketch stage Iâm too used to doing it effortlessly.;; Maybe Iâm justifying being lazy but for one, it saves time. A lot of time. Secondly it motivates me to move on and actually finish the picture;; (like when people complain that their sketch looks better than the lineart/finished picture)
This is my rough second âguideâ just to make sure that I cover the area of the body up. The outline of the shape is just made by turning on the fringe/wet edge setting on sai (above layer panel)
The only tools I used are the pen and default airbrush tool (later). Since the style is mostly block solids, I donât need density pressure (transparency) in the pen. Smoothing increases pressure sensitivity so itâs more accurate for neater shapes!
Now I make a new layer on top of everything and blob shapes following the sketch and the guide. Every time I feel that the âshapeâ will clash with another colour or object, underneath I create a new layer for a new shape. So I may end up with a lot of layers
I start with what is âcloserâ to the viewer first and work my way to the back. In this case itâs bangs> hair> headphones> face> clothes> hands/skin> pokemon> rest of hair/clothes
From time to time I hide the guide and the sketch just to see if thereâs anything I need to fix with the shapes. These shapes should be clean, if something is shaky try stroking a bit faster and with more momentum. You have ctrl+z and you could erase parts of shapes ( how I changed the shape of the piece of long hair)
This bit is actually the hardest bit because blobbing shapes require you to follow what is seen in the guide and not what you think. Example; when you think about drawing a flower itâs different to when you want to draw realistically. The best way for the latter is to look at a real flower and think of how to break it down into simpler shapes.
Now Iâll just copy that horrible body looking guide thing onto a new layer and neaten the shapes up. I went ahead and shaded the skin. (process explained later;)
The background is temporarily pink so because it contrasts with the light colours and I can see everything thatâs going on.
To shade I use clipping layers. Any layers you place thatâs clipped to the base layer will not go outside it! Iâll first explain my general rule of thumb for shading. Itâs a similar explanation from Shigenori Soejima (Persona Ÿ artist) because its kinda confusing.
When shading there are shadows(+highlights) and shades eg. Shadows are shadows- like the shadows of hair-on-skin in anime style. Placing shadows flat is called cel-shading. To take this to the next level you add âshadesâ. This is what makes an object pop out more to look more realistically convincing. The more you blend out these shadows and add more shades, the less toony the colouring will look. Iâll only add a tiny amount of shade since this is a flat style, but like above just the tiniest bit of âshadeâ can make things look a lot more round.
This may be personal preference but I notice that beginners a lot of the time shade with sharp edge triangles. If you round of these shapes even just the tiniest bit, it makes shading look more natural, itâs easier on the eyes. When shading metal or something solid then the shapes can be more rigid, but her jacket is especially poofy here.
After placing in the âshadowsâ I can go back and airbrush in shades using the airbrush. I would also place small highlights. This all should be really simple and not too detailed. Opacity lock is similar to clipping layer. It locks the âshapeâ so anything you paint on it will not go outside. Sometimes I airbrush slightly darker or lighter shades onto the shadows.
For the background itâs really just to be creative. Something poppy, bright and clean would be nice and suits the style! I have a few examples here. The background could be busy but it should compliment the focal point and not distract it too much.
Taadaaa done! I edited the levels a bit to make it brighter- But if you duplicate the finished image and set the layer to multiply it gives a similar effect.
When I was 13 years old and curious about sex and love, I asked my mom if she had had sex before marrying my father (of whom she is still married to, and has been since before I was born). She said that that wasnât really a âyesâ or ânoâ question. I said âsure it is, youâve either had sex before him, or you havenâtâ. She brought me onto the couch and sat me down and told me about the boy she liked when she was young and how one night she snuck into his house while his parents were gone and they were kissing and he said they should have sex and she said that she wanted to save sex for marriage and he laughed and basically took all her clothes off and he raped her and as my mom was telling the story she cried and this was the second time I had ever seen my mom cry. She was 12 when it happened.
In grade 8 I got a call from my friend in the middle of the night and she was drunk in the park crying and told me that she went out that night with some other friends and they drank a little and her guy âfriendâ starting flirting and yes she laughed at first but then he tried to pull her shirt over her head and she pulled away and he ripped her shirt and it was her favourite shirt and then he pushed her to her knees and HIS BEST FRIEND HELD HER JAW OPEN WHILE HE FACE FUCKED HER. And so I went to the park and picked her up and took her home and slept in her bed with her except we didnât sleep because she just cried and her mouth bled and this was four years ago but I still have to be the one to bring her items to the till it the cashier is a man, and she still has anxiety attacks and sheâll get a rash all over her body and I just want to kill those boys but instead they are still walking around. And Iâm in the bathroom with her, dabbing at her skin with a warm cloth until it returns to its regular colour.
And in grade 9 one of my closest friends was kinda seeing this boy and so they hung out one night and then she said that she really had to be getting back home and he said that she wasnât going anywhere until she gave him what he wanted and he parked the car and took off her clothes and she said no and he ignored her and so she laid in the backseat totally limp and just cried and it wasnât even sex, he just masterbated by using her body instead of his hand and she came to school the next day with vodka in her water bottle and she drank all day and I had to fight her to get the alcohol away from her and she just cried and threw up and I skipped class while I held her hair back and that same boy texted me a month later, asking if I ever wanted to hangout sometime.
And in that same year my very best friend who has never even kissed a boy, confessed to me that when she was 9 years old, her 12 year old cousin made her give him a hand job and he told her that was what cousins do and he gave her a chocolate bar afterwards and she told me that he probably doesnât even remember it but that itâs something that sheâll never have the luxury of forgetting.
And in grade 10 I knew a girl who invited her best friend over to watch Disney movies and then he started to put his hands down her pants and she said no but she is 130lbs and he is 220lbs and he called her a tease while she tried to fight him but he used one hand to hold her down, and the other to put inside of her and i was the one to push her inside of a classroom and stand in front of her while calling the police when he showed up at our school looking for her and she was so damn scared.
And a few months later I skipped class and was in the car with a guy who i had had unprotected sex with in the past while under the influence of cocaine but this time I was sober and I insisted we use a condom but he told me he couldnât feel anything while the condom was on so he ripped it off and I said I refused to have unprotected sex again and so he just grabbed me and forced himself into my mouth and I was crying and he pulled me onto him and I just came saying âstopâ over and over like a broken record but he mustâve heard something different because he went until he came and I just sat naked in the backseat while he drove me back to the school and said âwe should do this again sometimeâ. And I had five showers that night and I scratched at my skin so hard to try and rip his fingerprints off of me, I still have the scars.
And I found out soon afterwards that that same guy had raped a classmate of mine, 5 months earlier and she told me about how he brought her McDonaldâs first, and how he said they could take things slow and she told me about how he didnât listen to her either. And he goes to our school and so after she told me about her incident and I told her about mine, we decided to report it to the police and the trial is currently still going on and he told people about it, except in his version we are just âasking for attentionâ and all his friends talk about how bad they feel for him. As if HE is the one that still wakes up screaming. As if HE felt like his skin no longer was beautiful, no longer belonged to him.
And I held her in my arms as she bawled after giving the police her statement. And she did the same for me.
And I met a woman a year ago in a paint store and she had a service dog and I asked what the dog was for and it turns out that she had been so brutally raped and abused in her life, that the dog is literally trained to keep men away from her.
And Iâm so FUCKING SICK AND TIRED OF THIS WORLD WE ARE LIVING IN. How many rape victims eyes have I already looked into? How many more will I? And how many more friends will I hold while they shake? Because I donât know how many more I can take. And who the fuck still has the nerve to make rape jokes? And⊠Something just has to change. Please, someone just start being that change.
-16 year old girl
